Screw *everyone* having food shelter and other luxuries, so long as it stays reasonable then NASAs budget should skyrocket and stay that way. We can't fix the human condition but we can advance mankind scientifically.
Sounds like security through obscurity too me, if someone actually tries to target *your site* (which will happen if it's popular enough) then chances are it'll be broken in no time.
If you read up on the discussions leading up to the switch then you'd know that exactly what you propose was considered. Ultimately a complete rewrite was done because the old codebase had become convulted and unmaintainable.
Agreed. That is the book that tought me C. I tried for weeks to get my head around C, reading through numerous books, articles, etc. Nothing made any sense until I bought my copy of K&R v2. That book blasted through the clutter and confusion in my mind so fast I was practically left stunned. I really can't emphasize enough how excellent this book it.
It's the "rarely reproducible" part that I'm complaining about. Generally it was painfully obvious when it was a hardware issue because reimaging, activating and configuring it wouldn't help. In those cases we'd just ship the crap hardware back to Intel and not worry about it.
Or more likely it was 3000 installs, but about 100 different configurations. We specialized in building and configuring machines for local school districts.
That's irrelevant though, my point is, we were CLONING good installs onto identical hardware and were experiencing all manner of rarely reproducible errors.
I installed over 3000 copies of vista at a local OEM over my summer break. You wouldn't believe the shit I've seen. Integrated ethernet cards only being recognized every other boot, 15 minute startups, reboots required for every other damn driver install, random "could not connect to authentication server"s...
We already have a well defined legal term for the crime. Why muddy the water by pulling in other words, especially ones that bring to mind the most violent and henious types of villainy?
On an aside, "hacking" to refer to the illegal use of computers only arose from the term used to describe people who were particularly competent with computers. Little to do with physical "hacking".
When I was in highschool I was a part of the "science olympiad" team. As the resident astronomy guy I was always in that even, and as such, always got a school laptop to take with me on those trips. I was of course banned from playing games, but it only took me a day or two to realize that the only way they could tell what I had run was too look at the names of the executables. Simply renaming 'doom.exe' to 'star_finder.exe' solved that propblem. Point being, nature^W err, kids, will find a way.
No, I'm just saying the nutters wreck it for the rest of us. People (rightfully) filter out whatever the extreme right is screaming about, just like they (rightfully) filter out everything the extreme left is ranting about. It's just a shame that some good ideas get lost in the crossfire, on either side.
Sounds oftly similar to good ol' "Reaganomics" to me;) A pity support for that reasoning is praised fanactically by all the right wing nutters, turning others off from it.
Not that I disagree with you entirely, but I don't think this sort of problem necessarily effects *any* optical drive. I had my CD walkman for years and never had any trouble with it. That thing took some abuse too...
Call me stupid, but I think you just answered your own question. Otherwise, I don't see why you thought "backed by a major company" was so relevant to your comment, unless you are implying backing should be considered a reason it's not a "major browser". In that case, you are an idiot.

If you want to die in a fire, then I suggest you go do so.
Your brain is unsmart.

Welcome to the internet, where people are not always trying to be as serious as you.
What an eloquent rebuttal.
Hot damn, that's the best idea I've heard in a long time!

Because Fedora almost always does what they do, only a release before them?

Why? hmm, lets see...
Maybe because it was still using Qt3? If you are that upset about it then just use KDE 3.5.x still and wait for the 4.x line to mature as much.

Yeah, I'ved used vista...
Or you know, just type it with a decent text editor that does the spell checking for you...
On the contrary, thinking of asking slashdot surely means he's *very* qualified.

Am I the only one that thinks mixing sand with giant blowers may be a bad idea?
So what's this? A solution to the problem with the solution that lacked a problem? Can we just stop now please?

Man, they've lost tons of those dudes. At the very least they've got a good replacement system going.
