Yeah, and population density certainly has nothing to do with it.
Given that Japan has a population density of 337.1 per sq. km, and the United States has 34.2 per sq. km, maybe when the U.S. has a population of 3.2 billion we'll start to see some maglevs here, too.
Numpy / SciPy isn't just for use at home. I work in an office doing research with a bunch of Ph.D.s and we all use python exclusively. No $4,000 MATLAB licenses for us!
Bologna. I've been using Gnucash for years on a sizable business with no problem. I'm also very familiar with QuickBooks (I worked as a staff accountant for several years). Sure, there's a lot that quickbooks can do that Gnucash can't, but there's nothing fundamentally missing from Gnucash to prevent someone from using it for business purposes.
If FOSS means anything to you, Gnucash is the only way to go.
Hasn't anyone RTF? These aren't profits from inside the US, they're international profits. Why should the American gov't be able to tax international revenue in the first place IF that revenue is kept and invested internationally? I hate Microsoft as much as the next man, but Balmer is actually making a lot of sense here.
It's what I use at home for my kids. No, it's not perfect, but along with some good URL re-write rules, you can't get to any porn unless you REALLY try.
I can 3D print a human for only $64 million!

Mod parent up. This is exactly why I haven't bought a Wii U. I just want a Wii HD.
How is this news? We've all known about this for a very long time.
As a current iProvo fiber user, I can't wait to welcome my new Google overlords.
Hear, hear!

I disagree. As long as your books are kept correctly, the accountant only needs three things:
1) Profit and Loss
2) Balance Sheet
3) Depreciation Schedule
Gnucash does all of those. Print them out. Hand it to your account. And you're done.

I've also found happiness elsewhere. A combination of XFCE + OpenBox does EVERYTHING I need *and* want.
But will it support Linux?
Looks like we'll just have to adopt the HDBaseT spec instead.
given the AI article just a few stories down.

What could be simpler? It's easy, quick, and unless your laptop is stolen by an uber hacker, it's quite safe.
"A group of 18 Republican US senators have also sent a letter to Genachowski raising concerns about net neutrality regulations."
They make it too easy to figure out who's in the pocket of big business.
And that's the difference between the government and profit driven corporations--because the government has no problem spending other people's money.
Good Work!

THANK YOU! I was starting to feel like the only one in the entire slashdot-world who felt this way.
You want to tax Americans to fund Microsoft's incompetence?
I wondered the same thing. Ever since I started using gmail I haven't had any problem with spam and I don't waste any time filtering, etc.
Another vote for dvd::rip. I've used it tons of times and *never* had a problem.
I'm an electrical engineer and I've been saying this for years. To bad I always get modded a troll for doing so.
given that Gov. Huntsman seems to be pretty level-headed.
