Maybe you haven't, but I have been asked what this Vista thing is about. And I politely tell them what is is. And let them know that if they buy the current $300 PC they may not be able to upgrade later without spending on new hardware later(At least 200 more in memory and a GPU by local prices).
Among the concerns: delays in key computer-related technologies including the latest Microsoft (MSFT) operating system and next-generation DVD players.
Many potential buyers are waiting for Vista to be released before getting a new PC. If I were planning to get a new PC(And if use windows at all) I would certainly wait for vista to be released next year.
Maybe because those geeks who may have had a motivation to check M$ were the ones who already moved to a superior plataform. And those who were using windows, were not motivated enough.
I've read some posts arguing about how the Free Software Foundation(FSF) has no standing to take GNU/Linux distributors to court for non compliance with the GPL. Well, let's take a look on how they do have standing be checking some of the software in FSF's GNU Project.
GNU Coreutils
GNU Compiler Colection
GNU Ghostscript
GNU GRUB
There's more, not all of the sofware I mentioned is copyrighted by the FSF, but I'm sure some of the most important is. Not to mention that companies like Trolltech own the copyrights of vital parts of SimplyMEPIS and other distributions.
Except that nobody is required to burn bandwidth to release the code. Just having the source somewhere so that people could get it from you, you can even charge for it if you want(as long as it's not an excesive charge)
And as I mentioned in a post above, up to 10x the cost is still a reasonable price.
No problem, the system libraries and development environment is the same as any standard linux distro, just learn to make fast and efficient applications and teach yourself to package RPMs
Yeah but by putting an SSID diferent than just Linksys or 2Wire would make it slightly more dificult for the bad guys to figure out wich equipment is being used. And a little of MAC address spoofing could add up to the confusion of the average wardriver's mind.
And this law is not meant to stop the good hackers. It's more a way to keep the "Joe Wannabees" from trying.
Because i'm almost sure that the US Military needed a way to store audio in a portable device without carrying tapes and disks around long before the iPod
50 state goverments.
15 territorial goverments
1 for district of columbia
1 central goverment
That's like 67 goverments without counting municipal goverments
Sorry for the double post but...
According to them, the Linux kernel is cost 78million to develop
Did you noticed how they estimate what it would cost to develop this software if it was propietary?
Because I don't remember seeing that anywhere else
Ubuntu is running nicely on both, my laptop and Desktop. And I know wich upgrades to make when Vista ships(Hopefully next year)
This isn't optimism or pessimism, but someday Vista will be ready
Correct me if I'm wrong but, Isn't Moore's Law supposed to be about density, nowhere I remenber reading about Moore's law in relation to clock speeds.

There's voice recognition tools that are designed with that kind of disability in mind. The first I can think of would be Dragon: Naturally Speaking
Mmmmm...
Maybe that explains why Duke Nukem Forever is taking that long
This has something to do with that purchase of AOL stock by Google some time ago?

I think they refer to artwork and branding, like redhat(CentOS does that and a bit more)
You don't have to release the game content under the GPL, only the software code.
Note that by game content I mean models, skins, maps, etc.
In the GPLv3 draft I read somewhere that it up to 10x the cost of producing the code package is a fair price point so it would be like $943.7
And the <p> tag wasn't invented 'till 1990
Or they used a really old wysiwyg editor
There's http://www.gnusolaris.org/gswikiNexenta

There's the british virgin islands if you need the warm wheather. I know because I live about three to four US islands to the west from there
Yep you heard me..
Because we're soon be like the Animals from Orwell's animal farm.
I think goes along the lines of "You don't want Mr. Bin Laden to harm us again, do you?"
And of course "Bush is always right."
But don't worry because in the end we'll go to Sugar Candy Mountain (Or your particular vision of heaven)

Sounds easy enough. Right?
Oh and BTW:
