A certain percentage of the US population is X: white, therefore it is expected that an equivalent percentage of American Y: Chinese Restaurant owners are too. If they are not, it indicates some sort confounding variable that might (and in this case almost certainly does) indicate some sort of social inequity that needs to be addressed. Maybe it's not not social "inequity", but personal choices made by all parties involved. Sure, with different values of X and Y, your mileage may vary.

Seriously though, many of the finest minds in those fields were eccentric, not necessarily extroverted. Eccentricity sometimes seems like the epitome of introversion: a near-complete disregard for the opinions of others.
I lived without a (cell)phone and internet access for a couple years... until lack of communication made me miss the birth and death of my first niece. Now I try and keep my cell phone on at all times.
If I answer it during a meeting, I often ask if they can call me back. If I answer it during a computer game... it's a _game_ I don't care about the outcome. The only time I turn it off is when I'm on a date or spending time with my family.
If it's a spectrum, then everyone's on it, from Neuro-typical to Aspie to Savant to Unresponsive. I'd say most of society would agree that geeks are not neuro-typical.
As society becomes more dependent of spatial technologies like StreetView, a similar counter-survival friction will occur as... Dominos,... are delayed by uncertain spots in their data. I suppose if delivery pizza is your only food source...
Support? Seems obvious when you point it out. I always laugh at this. The "support" even big companies get from software vendors still takes lots of work testing on the customer's end, so this portion of the TCO is effectively equal. Often, it takes longer for a proprietary vendor to provide a fix than it takes the FOSS community.
