  1. I've been waiting for this one on Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) Beta Released · · Score: 3, Interesting

I must admit that Windows Vista almost got me. Its not even the eye candy, its just the thought of looking at something different from XP. I can't wait to go from 6.10 to 7.04, I've really enjoyed ubuntu since I siwtched to it from Debian. I hope that wireless and 3D is a bit easier in this release. I also heard that there is an applet that helps install media codecs, that should really come in handy too (Although I think easybuntu does this too)

  2. How about Dell? on How To Request Better ATI Linux Support · · Score: 1

Dell seems big on ATI these days (I wanted a Dell core duo notebook with an nvidia card that wasnt too expensive and didnt find anything on there Canadian site) so maybe they could push for better drivers?

How powerful are these guys, I mean really? Do they exist in Canada? Despite privacy laws and all this bullshit do they have some kind of authority to march into your business? I just never really understood how they work

  7. re: DRM free MP3s - Verified on Puretracks Music Store Drops DRM · · Score: 1

Hi guys, I am in Canada and gave this a try, works fine for me at this URL (which I'm sure needs a Canadian IP)
    http://www.puretracks.com/content/viewer.aspx?cid= GlobalNav_MP3

Theres actually a decent selection - Jimi Hendrix, Bare naked ladies, anthrax, prodigy etc...

Although I still like ripping my cds. I would sue one of these sites if I could get MP3s in true stereo, 112-320 VBR. I could care less if my iPod can hold 1000 songs that I wont even listen to in ok quality, because I would rather have 100-200 songs in near CD quality. Just my opinion

  8. Re:No Wii? on Star Wars - The Force Unleashed · · Score: 1

There will be a wii lightsaber game - there was a promo when it was still the revolution, I think the vid is even on youtube. I'm sure its just a matter of time

  9. re Online Gaming on Why Online Multiplayer Isn't That Important · · Score: 1

I think it all depends on the person and the platform. I don't like the idea of a lan party, so the PC is great for online connectivity and gaming. PS3 and 360 are obviously geared towards this as well, but honestly I don't have enough time in a day to ignore family and friends and play against someone I don't even know - I'd rather have a few people over and play something like Monkeyball together. (and I get a lot less grief from my wife - she hated when I played Star Wars Galaxies). That's why I think Nintendo shouldn't be under so much fire for their lack of online multiplayer, I think a big part of their market doesn't even care about that - its more of the social experience that makes it fun. And it seems like the games that should be online aren't - for example, I'd love a good 2D online brawler, like SF2 or maybe even ala Final Fight. I am sure there are a few options out there, but I'd love to see a Marvel VS Capcom or Marvel VS SNK or Dragonball online fighter. Just my .02

  10. Re 64 Bit support? on Windows Vista Launches To Mixed Reactions · · Score: 1

I don't think I will make the switch to Vista, my comp is less then a year old and I doubt it would run the pretty version of Vista (I run a Sempron 3000+ with 512 RAM, 250GB HDD, and a Geforce 5200 w/ 256MB - maybe it will do but I keep reading these horror stories and I don't want to pay $150 to find out). What I do hope is that it really spurs 64 bit support, because I could really use 64 bit flash, open office and firefox extensions on my ubuntu box. I know that you can run 32 bit stuff inside of 64, but I think it would be nice to just have a system running all in 64 bit that lets me do everything I am used ot.

Ok I heard it was just Canada, but it's good to hear that we are all getting F'd LOL I couldn't even find Final Fantasy 3 for the DS anywhere, but I guess as a Nintendo fanboy thats good for them.

  12. Re:How about a Wii price drop... to $250... on PS3 Price Drop Won't Happen Anytime Soon · · Score: 1

I understand where this guy is coming from, especially if he is in Canada. I think the Wii is selling far better here than in the US. At my local Bestbuy, they only sell them friday, first come, first serve, and people are still lining up outside the store by 6AM at the latest to get them. Its nuts! Regardless, I am sure I will get one soon, but its really tough. Cant get wiimotes or nunchuks either.

  13. re: DRM on Startup Tries Watermarking Instead of DRM · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think that the point isnt that this is unbreakable or that they may not even look to go after the author, rather they are relying on a couple of points:

    1. Its just too much work to crack/reencode etc... Not impossible, just a pain in the ass (probably more of a pain in the ass then running a disc through DVD Shrink)

    2. If something has your name on it, they hope that you will be more likely to keep everything honest. They don't have to come after me, or even threaten to, because if I see a file with my name floating around I might be worried what others think etc... This doesn't mean that no one will distribute, but many would think about it twice. They are basically saying that if you are the only one using it then you have nothing to worry about

Sorry I had to - I couldn't resist! But I think some good could come out of this. I run linux for my personal desktop and thats it - so I am excited about the fact that MS wants to contribute to OOo. Some better filters for opening ms docs would really help make it more viable and hopfully it would go the other way, with MS offering real support for saving in ODF format. It will be interesting to see where it goes

  16. Re:Interested in performance. on IBM Announces Wii Chips In Nintendo Hands · · Score: 3, Interesting

I wouldn't worry. I played Resident Evil 4 on my gamecube with Component video cables and progressive scan - the graphics are way better then anything I have seen on ps2 or xbox1, so if you soup up the cube abit and you're doing everything at 480p I bet it will look great
