As others have said here, the possibility of this stuff being used in espionage and the like are tremendous. Depending on the applicability, all kinds of stealth stuff could come out of this.
Kids that use Apples in general transition to the PC world and are lost. The one-button thing is just the tip of the iceberg. They have to learn all over again how to use a computer. The Apple interface might be nice and user-friendly, but I used to work in an architectural office...there were no Macs there. Summer-working kids came out of high school and suffered immediate PC-itis because of their limited exposure.
Either the interns rode to work on the short bus or you're full of shit. The pickup from Mac to PC is virtually nonexistant and has been since MS "innovated" the interface world with Win 95. I went from Mac hardcore to 'doze user in about 30 seconds flat. Most of the Mac users I've known who've had to transition to PCs for whatever reason, especially those under 30, have also had absolutely no problem.
I want what's best for the students just as well as the next...and in my view, they need to learn on the same machines they will eventually work on...PC's.
Take your "real world" arguments to somebody who'll actually buy that crap. Kids should learn on as many platforms as possible so they actually have a choice, rather than having one option rammed down their throats and being ignorant (as you seem to be) of the validity of other OS/ hardware choices.
Seeing Andromeda making it more than one season makes me wonder what would have happened had the late and venerable Gene Roddenberry in passing mentioned Firefly?;-)
There are no hard-coded probabilities to becoming a jedi. Every FS character's path to becoming a jedi is different. Basically, if there were probabilities involved, everyone would evntually be a jedi, due to creating new characters until they all got a FS one.
Also, in answer to the ebay question, becoming a jedi and remaining one are two separate things...
So? I have a beige K6-233 sitting at home that functions perfectly well, which I bought over five years ago now. There are Pentium 75 machines still chugging away out there.
And what software is running on them? Or even your 233 for that matter? I had a K6-233 too, I had to upgrade it to run any decent games. Half-Life brought it to its knees. After replacing the Mobo, the processor, the video card and the RAM, (can't use that old SD on these new DDR boards, can ya?) I've got a nice Athlon XP box. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but if I was Joe Sixpack, I'd have had to buy a whole new box from Dell or Gateway that would've cost me a hell of a lot more.
I bet I spent a heck of a lot less for that K6 than you paid for your Powermac, too.
If you spent less than the $1,900 in total I did, congrats. Go buy yourself some ice cream with all your well saved cash, you magnificent, thrifty bastard. =P
... yeah, because Macs never become obsolete... oh no. Never.
Sure they do, but not as quickly as PCs. I've got a 300Mhz blue and white Powermac sitting in my house still functioning quite well. How much have I spent on it in the almost four years since I bought it? About 400 bucks and that was for a gig of RAM, a bigger HDD and a new video card. I run Jaguar on it and have no serious performance issues for the basic funtions (web browsing, email, the occasional DVD) Would I run FCP on it? hell no, but it works.
Dork, They are hiring jackasses that are as frigging lame as ashcroft and his concentration camp kulaks to do the "monitoring" of your network because abdul alhazred works there. Are you worried? You should be.
I'd be worried if the Mad Arab was working in my network too. The last thing I need in addition to terrorists and overzealous neo-fascists is Cthulhu or one of the other Great Old Ones fucking with my traffic. =P
Ummm...just where exactly are you going to put this equipment in the already cramped Manhattan stations? Sure, cost of re-building the trains is big. But space is a serious consideration, too, and something that costs dearly in Gotham.
New York subway stations are constantly being worked on. Just look at the recent work on the Broadway line. Sure most of it was/is cosmetic, but consider 72nd street. They're expanding the whole station almost an entire block. There's plenty of space to add these devices if they're going to improve the efficiency of the trains.
Of course, if this plan goes through, expect a fare increase...

Either one will work, though I believe the
Apple solution is cheaper at the moment.

I phased out my last CRT about a year ago. The only
difference I've noticed is how much more crap winds
up on my desks now. =)

Hey, there's a perfectly good reason Andromeda made it past
the first season. =)

1) write a bunch of whiny tripe attacking the most popular president in the last hundred years.
Funny, I don't remember reading any articles
attacking FDR on Salon...
because acting against the goverment might cause unwanted change.
No, acting against the government would be double plus ungood.
I have a B&W G3 that I installed a creative DVD
drive into. It never worked with the Apple DVD
player until 10.2. Not in 9, 10.0 or 10.1

Of course they have a timetable.
Yeah and all the entries on that timetable read,
"when we get around to it." The New York City
subway system is a study in chaos theory sometimes.

Why must everyone use the phrase "iPod Clone?"
Because that's what this looks like? Next Gen MP3
player it may be, but it still looks damn derivative.
