I would like to hear actual arguments. Research papers. Something that suggests that a national system would be worse or harder to defend from privacy invasion or theft. I'm certainly more than ready to listen to such arguments, but who did you expect to convince with this?
"Oh gee, if some Anonymous Coward dick is going to call me an idiot on Slashdot, I guess I would be a fool to disagree with him..."
Jebus. Can't you have a civil discussion without planting strawman arguments in other people's mouths? OMG If we actually behaved intelligently Algore will stick us all in coffins and live in big house WTF COMMIE
Houses can be efficient and sustainable. Owning a car can be efficient and sustainable. Global logistics can be efficient and sustainable. All it requires is some rational establishment of priorities and not having a pack of paranoids freak out about every little change.
Clearly, the issue with deforestation is not biofuel, it's economics. And politics and conservation enforcement... but in any case you can't stop slash-and-burn agriculture by trying to keep palm oil valueless.
With some additional technology, we can start economically producing biofuel from cellulose. This will allow poor-quality or ruined farmland to start producing valuable crops again, and actually improve the quality of the soil. This may be able to end slash-and-burn altogether.
When I see "xxx", my first impulse is to think it's a variable. Even as a "rating", it doesn't even mean anything. It was something invented by porn theaters 40 years ago.
If we're making a whole new category for adult material, let's give it a proper name. dot-adl, dot-adult, dot-ero, dot-porn... I don't care, just not three xs.
Surely I'm not the only one who rants about this... right?
And of course, even Slashvertisements have unfiltered comments where people are free to question the validity and bias of the posting.
If they were truly run like VNRs, every Slashvert would come with a few dozen pre-screened writers crowing about how Clean Coal Technology (TM) really is the solution to all our environmental woes!
A game like Shadow of the Colossus would merit critique in opinion because it creates a unique universe, with mythology, and presents classically inspired questions of the nature of heroism.
And Katamari doesn't?
Okay, maybe heroism doesn't play a large role, but KD is as unique a work of art as anything on the market. It has a visual and music style all it's own, and a gameplay mechanic that focuses on actual playing rather than military simulation or violent conflict. These factors alone make it worthy of examination, even if it's not the deepest, most meaningful narrative in the genre.
A lot of comments here are mocking the idea, which is funny and all, but it doesn't sound like many of the citics have actually read the article.
I am deeply suspicious of any solution that involves our decendants "sometime in the future figuring out what to do with the waste". I do agree that nuclear power is an option, and worthy of serious consideration and research, but don't sugar-coat the very real issues of waste, efficency, safety, and economics.
But to address the Previous Parent, of course it takes more energy to produce hydrogen then you can extract from it. The question is can we use energy that is otherwise unuseable, due to lack of storage or transmission options, to extract hydrogen that's usable anywhere. That means wind and tidal energy (and yes, off-peak nuclear energy) are suddenly far more viable and efficent than they were before.
I think you're stretching your sarcasm a bit thin there, chuckles.
The "XL" would appear to be referring to the size of the pad, rather than just a meanless marketing suffix. And I agree that a wooly-bag is less than a necessity, but I fail to see why 'air quotes' are warranted around "created" or "designer". Hand-crafted items are far from unique to the ipod industry.
Almost all of these items have a practical application to someone... except the toilet paper holder and the thong, of course.
"while overly hostile, your point that they are not enviromentalist, but anti-capatilists(which is why green peace is a joke) is correct."
No, you're confusing your talking points. Greenpeace is in favor of these windmills. The opposition for these windmills is not from ecologists, or anti-capitalists, but yuppies. Yuppies are nothing if not pro-capitalist.
Do you think you're helping?

Who, specifically, is saying that?

I believe Hummer's marketing strategy is more oriented towards the Gonad-Insecure.
It's like, how much more orange could this be? And the answer is none. None more orange.

The first one, in case that isn't obvious...
It's more like if kids should be getting more workout in their media exposure. I'd say yes.

Why? Read the newsheader, friend:
"News for nerds."
Nerds likey the games.
Infact, nothing in this announcement suggests that they won't have access to both classes.
