    'removal of money from politics'. its just naive. as long as money exists and some few have mountains of it and masses dont, money will have power. they may not give money directly to campaigns for example. but instead, the retired senators can immediately find a very juicy job at the corporation that s/he passed laws for, after his/her term ends - which was also happening by the way.

    you cant remove money from politics. even in middle ages and renaissance, those with the money made the rules despite they were not aristocrats and there was no legal place for them in politics. fuggers basically reigned over charles v, the 'greatest' holy roman emperor. they kept reigning over the empire after his death, because they were the ones who were lending money to the imperial throne and spanish crown. legally they had no right to.

    but see, even in systems that there should be no logical point of entry to political system, those with the money find other peripheral means to do so.

    they are not even feeling the need to hide and put on a facade anymore - like they did a few decades ago. they are outright just doing whatever their paymasters paid them for directly. even the farce of 'democracy' has been dropped.

    they wont change anything. even if 99,999% of the society wants it. and there is no way to elect those who will change it. as evidenced by how the very basic first rule of the modern society, habeas corpus - that was there since magna carta - has gone to cinders with the recent legislation those people have produced. let me stress this again :

    they dont give shit about what you think and they wont change that law of the land. and you cant elect or be elected without being filthy rich. only 1-3% of society is filthy rich. system works for them regardless of what you desire or wish

    i dont know whether you are incapable of reading comprehension. in case you havent noticed, i have recounted the incidents. 'repeatedly investigated' -> does not mean shit. what happened with the investigations ? how many times were they raided ? how many fines they got ?

    apple - never. microsoft 2 times. that's that.

    There has never been such cases about them. they didnt have to be raided, they didnt have to delete files to escape investigation ........ they just dont get investigated. microsoft got bothered approx. 2 times in this entire 30 year period in its history. nothing more. freaking 30 years, total domination of personal computer compatibles, and just 2 times. one is the ie thing, and the other is eu's browser ballot box.

    and dont get me started on apple.

  13. it is helpful to society to have professors in colleges who aren't just there to provide "here's the video for the lecture, here's the choose-a-guess test, here's your certificate" classes but instead provide actual interactive discussions, answer questions relevant to the topic at hand from a learned perspective, continue to do research in the subjects they are teaching, and continually update the curriculum thereby.

    youre talking as if there does not happen such discussions online. i guess you have never been to a civil, science oriented community forum ? and you are talking as if the only online education methods are khan and mitx. the fact that such discussion forums, communities, mailing lists have existed since arpanet escapes your horizon.

    are you sure that you are qualified to participate in discussions pertaining to how science education should be, with your narrow horizon ?

    The thing to do is to convince our Congressmen

    those 'congressmen' do not give zit about what you think. so you cant 'convince' them either. they have been elected there by the monetary backing of private interest groups who are much richer than rest 95% of the population. only they have their ear.

    you have 2 choices at this juncture :

    - be richer than 5% or so of the population, that controls 72% of the wealth. (in contrast you have only 15% - so its impossible - there would be enough who made it that much up till this point if it would work)

    - get rid of the economic system that allows tiny minority of population to command 70-80% of economic wealth.

    - get rid of the current existing political system, in which only those who are extremely rich or have the backing of extremely rich can get elected.

    a right that practically cant be exercised does NOT exist. that is no different from medieval serfs having the right to petition the king against lord's wrongdoings in legalese, but never having the possibility to practice.

    I'd like to write a book, so I'm going to require that someone provide me with a free computer, free paper, free writing utensils, free access to commercial printing and binding machines, etc..

    yes. and that's how it should be. quite far fetched? no. not more far fetched than arguing that practical impossibility of exercising a right in a way it would matter still qualifies as 'having that right.

    You can say whatever you want but building an audience and venue requires consent of other people and usually money. If your words don't cause anyone to want to listen, or pay for it, etc. then that's not a problem with your rights

    suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure. how convenient isnt it. 'you have the right to speech, but exercising it in a way it will matter requires money, and 85% of population does not have it'.

    problem sorted. illusion of freedom exists, idiots get fooled, and the rest 15% who do have money to exercise it gets everything their way through that power.

    so, you have a right, but the means to exercise it are not your rights. so basically, whomever has the most money can publish newspapers, run tvs or appear in tvs, and all the rest 95% people like you just end up 'free speeching' among your own social circle ........

    and in contrast, internet access as of this point fixes all of these - you CAN actually exercise that free speech right AS it should be - in a way that it would matter. you can broadcast to millions if they are interested, you can be read for millions if they are interested, and these cost you very minimal amounts.

    take it away and what remains ? only the means to exercise your free speech as a rather vocal member of your own small social circle.

    totally harmless. as they want you to be.
