According to a Google spokesperson. If I were in that car, and it crashed while the software was driving, I would claim that I had been driving it too. Any public crash that could be blamed on the software would put the project in serious jeopardy.
Well, these cars are instrumented very heavily and it would not be possible to lie outright. So there is some reason to believe Google, than the skeptics here.
I am a mesh maker and work with tessellations, (mostly in 3D but also 2D). You don't need this heavy duty math to arrive at the solution. Any area you mow more than once represents wasted effort. The simplest non intersecting path is, start at the outer edge and follow the boundary of the unmowed area and progressively you move inwards. Additional brownie points to choose the direction so that clippings are discharged into unmowed area.
It is going to be Windows Genuine Pseudonym Advantage (tm). Will be release at 7 trim levels. From Starter Edition to Ultimate to "All your bases are belong to us" level. Gartner is releasing a Total Cost of Owenership study. It got advance notice about this product because it a member of the Windows Genuine Shill program.
When it remains a toy, it has certain market size, R&D effort, usage numbers. When it becomes commercial, the market size and the development takes a completely different path. Basic assumption is that as long as they are toys, the numbers and sizes will remain small. If and when toys get out of hand, they come under regulation. When the jet-skis came in first, they were toys and were not regulated. Once they became really big, fast and powerful and started running a few swimmers over, they come under regulation.
Of course, it can't be explained in a 30 second sound bite. Sorry if I have exceeded your attention span.
But I accidentally typed the response as a tweet to my Azharbaijani circle of friends and posted the goat pron link meant for the Azhars in my FB wall.
It's amazing how many problems and complaints would be solved...
Your mistake is assuming everyone wants these problems and complaints to be solved. It is not in Amazon's interest to solve them.
Amazon is particularly a vile company. Its entire business is taking advantage of internet. Which was a government funded project with amazing amount of intellectual property created in universities by extraordinarily creative people given away for free and in the public domain. Just the sendmail or http or ftp protocol or mosaic browser alone is worth million times more than that stupid "one-click" patent of Bezos. But it plays hardball with other web sites over its "invention". It sticks the government with all the costs of enforcement of patents of trivial ideas and the litigation etc. Then it sticks to the letter of law and refuses to collect sales tax for other states.
All we need is two or three more unpatriotic anti-American myopically selfish companies, to bring America down. Nah, Amazon alone is enough.
Guys, you were all laughing when I bought the lottery tickets from Dogbert 50% off. He assured me that the odds of winning are just one one millionth less, but the price was 50%, count them full fifty percent off. You guys were taunting me for buying the previous day's tickets. Ha! Who is laughing now?
The problem is not our inability to keep SSN confidential. The problem is banks and credit card companies are willing to lend without any checks. They fight tooth and nail any law that will give me the ability to "freeze" my credit lines. They prevent me from taking any steps that will make it more difficult for the identity thieves to impersonate me. Then they come dunning for the money they "lost" and they come begging for bail outs.
As long as the Republicans are in the pockets of these banks and fight the nomination of true consumer rights advocates like Elizabeth Warren, these things will continue to happen.
How old are thermocouples? Seriously folks, that someone took heat energy and created a current flow is no reason to go ga ga. Look at efficiency. Carnot heat engine is quite abstract and no matter what, there is an absolute maximum efficiency given the temperature of the source and the sink. Unless you have a bottomless pit of of sink at absolute zero degree kelvin, this sucker too would look very much like a thermocouple. Curious, interesting, might find some application in some weird situations. But in general, if ain't gonna replace either the IC engine or the battery any time soon.
Why? A beautiful smile can compensate for pretty awful image quality. Image quality is not just some technical thing with contrast ratio and dynamic range and pixel count. I want a camera at that time when that kodak moment happens. And I am not going to be lugging around an slr all the time. Yes, there are times when I know I have to take pictures. At that time i do lug my SLR and the tripod and the external flash too.
The opening dialog of Zhasu's intro in The Lion King, addressed to Scar was, "Didn't your mother teach you not to play with your food?". Looks like we could ask the Korean scientists the same thing.
Hope they can invent this underwater breathing thing in a hurry. That talking head in some TV was yapping away saying the USA is going to be underwater on Aug 2. Something about some ceiling.
Most people who care so much about privacy, are a small minority. Most people don't seem to care about privacy. They don't seem to realize that it is as through there are microphones at every coffee machine and at every water cooler and at every bus stop, and every thing they ever utter is recorded, indexed, archived forever. But they form the overwhelming majority of the population. They pump so much of cash into to market, if you don't take advantage of them, someone else will. So Google is also playing the same game.
People who care so much about privacy can form their own social network. There is no one stopping them from doing it. Why do they insist Google do it when they could not do it? Money. People who care about privacy don't spend enough money, there are not enough of them, not yet anyway. So there is the opportunity for you folks complaining about the erosion of privacy. Start a decent social networking portal with enough safe guards. And wait. If there is a big scandal and suddenly there is a mad rush to protect their privacy, you will be at the right place and make some money. If that day never comes to pass, well, you learned a valuable lesson.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, they all want iPhone5. Are they willing to buy it? Or they want someone to give it to them? So 65% of the people would not even want an iPhone5. Even if it was just handed to them. It puts the headline in a completely different light!
Very well, your handle has been noted and saved in every patent troll lawyer's database. Now they are going to go after your employers dunning money for "patent infringements" caused by rampant employee code searches and the culture that tolerated, promoted and even demanded it. They would not say clearly what code was searched and what exactly was violated, but they repeatedly hammer, "employees admitting in public fora that they engage in code searches trawling the net for code to plagiarize and they faced no fear of censure".
Biology is not so much like Physics where you build on fundamental concepts, it is more of a collection of useful interesting observations. I think the evolution and ID people both have an agenda their are pushing and they are both damaging to the education of our children.
No the ID people are pushing an agenda. Scientists are pushing back. Equal time to both sides is unfair when one side (the biologists) can muster up so much of evidence, so much of explanations, so many predictions, and much of testing that has withstood rigorous scientific examination for 150 years. And the other side (creationists) has no science, not even a hypothesis, no evidence and just some tenuous assertions.
But you have much fewer kids than that crowd. Your children will be out-voted, and their tax dollars will support the religious instruction of the creationists.
There is a flaw in your logic. Democracy. Intelligent people limit their family size, produce highly productive and successful children, but far fewer in numbers. They get out voted by the legion of dimwits bred by these creationists. It is already happening.
"DIY fixers do a hack job of wiring their routers in their home basements to their computers in second floor bedroom. They drill a hole and take the cable clearly marked "indoor use only" outside the home hanging in a lazy lopsided catenary curve up to the bedroom window, take it through the window into the house. The window sash does not close properly and allows bugs to get inside.
Professional electricians on the other hand use flexible drills to make nice access holes, wire the cables, patch up the dry wall, clean up all the debris, and charge you 90$ an hour. "
P.S: Exercise to the reader: Make it a car analogy.
Nah, the board just evolved. As the electorate gets more worried about the future of their kids who might not be able to compete in the global marketplace, the board members who adopted a more pro-science stance prospered. And those who have stuck to a 2000 year old mind-set got weeded out. Well, that is just the theory.
The whole thing depends on the number of false positives. At times tests like these are heavily manipulated by the vested interests to mandate testing for the whole populations. Mainly to make money on the testing.
We accept as normal part of aging that body will perform less efficiently than when it was young. Similarly some loss of function in brain is also part of normal aging. As long as both the body and the brain dies more or less same time, it should be accepted as "normal". Advances in medication is keeping the body alive far longer than in the past. So all these brain diseases are getting prominent attention.
It is one thing to talk like this clinically in the abstract sense. But when yourself or a loved one is facing this issue rationality goes out of the window. I wish we would have the guts to treat only the early onset Alzhieimer's alone and let nature takes its course. Also should permit people to write living wills saying, "After my brain is dead, do not keep my body alive. Harvest it for organs and give it to people with functioning brains."
I tried to edit my profile name to include my name in both English and in an Indian language script. I got a warning message saying the name "violates" the "community standards" and was told if I proceed my account might be suspended. I cancelled out and used the Indian language script in description. I can see how such automated script based validation can be screwed up. But still it looks more like, Google+ would be for people to interact using real identities. For anonymity use mails.
I think it makes sense. Social networking and anonymity have very small over lap. Google probably wants to serve only those who want social networking without anonymity with some level of privacy controls. As long as they don't block anonymous users from other services, it is not bad.
The car crashed while being driven by a person.

It is the only product to reach 25 million users while still be beta stage. Wait. Is gmail out of beta yet?
