And giving money to them raises some eyebrows when you're going for a security clearance.
I know someone whose wife would donate $$$ to Greenpeace. He went and got a clearance, but when he got it, he came home and told his wife to stop giving to Greenpeace.
I'd expect the real reason notice is being paid is the potential for money laundering.
What would be cool, is a virtual underworld that can create real money. Then, I can use my flight simulator and become a virtual smuggler! Of course, I'd have to get the "Drug runner/Smuggler" add-on package for Flight Simulator.
I know there are "love the whales" slashdotters out there...
I just can't stand all that smoke that the shuttle produces! Can't they use smokeless fuel?!? An the fact that they're using salmon to fuel those things! Yes its true! They use LOX to power it! See, they take Salmons and cream cheese to send the shuttle into space! It burns up soooooo many Salmon, that one day, they'll be extinct!
I don't understand how that would work. What would you use as input to the hash function and how would the hash be used?
He/she is probably a NSA/TSA/CIA/FBI Government spook trying to get ideas help so he/she can try to get a promotion and climb the ranks of the Gest...Ayea mean of Government.
btw- does "Post Anonymously" mean anything anymore?
It never did. I've tried accessing/. via anonymous proxies for a few years now and either a) you get a message form/. saying that the IP is blocked, or b) it so fucking slow that you keep timeing-out. And, to test/.'s monitoring sometime, just start Trolling, get modded down a shit load of times, and voila! You can't post on/. - you get some message saying that a lot of [shitty] messages were coming from your IP and you've been temporarily blocked.
I haven't been keeping up much with all this "Web 2.0" stuff. When I clicked on the links, I was expecting (really! I'm embarassed to say) to read things about a new networking/inernet protocal, IPv6, or something relating to the backbone technology - not comparing Netscape to Google, etc...
I didn't finish the article because I got bored after the first page.
Should some other president in the future expect the NSA to submit 10000 warrants due to one email string, even after the fact?
Yes.
If we lose our liberties, no matter how gradually we give them up, what's the point in the existance of our country (USA)?
Our country is our liberties. Without them, we become just another band of citizenry controlled by a political elite; kind of like, um, let me think, (looks at closest consumer item) China.
The sentiment still stands, tho: Adobe makes a shitload of money off the Mac, and given Apple's entrenchment in desktop publusing/pre-press/design, it's as close to a guaranteed revenue stream as you can get. Steve Jobs may be a pain in the ass, but in the business world you learn to deal with pain in the ass clients and take their money.
Not necessarily - I haven't looked at the filings you've mentioned - I gotta go soon. But a coulple of things to look for:
How much are those sales costing Appl. Yeah, they're getting $400 million revenue, but are they spending more than $400 million in expenses - cost of goods sold, fixed costs, etc... to make that $400 M?
Maybe the ROI they're making on those sales isn't worth it. If you use that capital to make even more than $400 mill., then it'd be better to make the money work elsewhere.
I once worked with a ex - journalist. I mentioned something about some media outlets being biased. She immediately cut me off and said that EVERYONE has a bias - that's just human nature.
It doesn't have to be the writers either, it can also be editors or anyone else that has input into how, what, and when things are published.
Already done here in the US...

That would make the Canada's equivalent of the Fortune 500 at least. After a year, having achieved our goal, the stock would become worthless.
It was already done, here, in the US: it was called "Enron".
They should just hire someone from something like, oh, say a soda company. Selling computers can't be that different from selling soda...
FTFA:This move created two new components of the company; the existing hardware division, which had been under Rubinstein's eye, split into iPod and Macintosh divisions.
Apple is a much different company than it was then. Apple is focusing on innovative consumer devices. I can't see Apple focusing entirely on PCs - it's a commodity business that's becoming more difficult every year to keep margins up - we'll see with the move to Intel chips:-). They have to keep expanding their business outside of the PC business and possibly have the PC business actually become secondary to Apple's primary businesses.
Gattica had the nifty system of checking DNA for everything...will the Police officer someday just ask for a strand of hair? I like my bodily fluids, and I don't want to give them away, especially not for something as mundane as identification...it would be okay to give them to the proverbial "female".
Well, I'm bald and I don't have a "Summer sweater", so, I guess I'd have to jerk-off into a cup? Will the cops have porn on them to allow me to do this? Or, will that cop be some really hot woman, who handcuffs me, and....got to go.
C'mon, didn't you ever use the TRS-80 BASIC interpreter? Didn't everyone?
I typed in the "Star Trek" game that worked great on the PDP-11- ?(30 I'm not sure after 30 years?)
From what I can remember, when you typed coord's, it didn't prompt you, it just sent you there... or, when you hit return, it would keep playing the game - ignoring the prompt command (I don't even remember the prompt command in BASIC - not MS' BASIC, but THE REAL BASIC) - what I'm trying to say is the TRS-80 BASIC interpreter DIDN'T work like the PDP-11.

So says the AC.
