It's rather this way: Criminal has a right not to be hit by policeman, but it doesn't really works opposite way. How many times have you heard about police being attacked? Or security? My friend works in security. One day there was a fight in a club - he was attacked with broken bottle. He defended himself by punching the guy - and landed case in court for unlawfully attacking him. Apparently attacker tripped on his shoelaces (sic!) and broke a bottle and later did it second time - this time falling on my friend. You call it a justice? Or parody?
Plus, there's also big movement in Europe. And Europe is the part of the world that CAN pay. They are choosing to switch because of Microsoft's monopoly. They want free choice and INTEROPERABILITY. That will boost India's software companies and both will benefit. Especially that companies are changing their business models. Now, with FOSS quite widespread, they change from selling product to supporting them. Look at RedHat.
So India will soon have what Europe needs (cheap support, free software) and Europe has what India needs - cash, foreign currencies especially.
You're absolutely right. Don't forget that over 40% of Linux code comes from company employed programmers. And it's still Open Source. Like for example RedHat. And Suse. So there shouldn't be any grievances about it - those companies push FOSS to market and give all FOSS community sense of direction.
And coming back to India - that's brilliant news. Think that India has over 1 billion people. All of them will be Linux users. And finally they will come as cheap labour (IT support) to UK/US to promote FOSS. And don't forget about opportunities of opening cheap Linux support call centres there.
_WE_ don't know if they did or not. This kind of negotiations are usually behind closed doors, and on this level this means vault doors. Let's wait for some time and we will know. Any lawsuit - they haven't. Simple.
UK is very similar to Japan. But nothing like this in place. Why? Copper is cheaper and most people have no clue about technology. It's easy to sell them anything. In contrast in Japan education system is much better than US/UK so people are more aware of new technologies. And their culture is different - they don't want to make a quick buck and f*ck their customers. Their ethics are totally different. Example? Look at their crime rate.
First and the biggest problem with Delphi / Kylix - they are well too overpriced. I used to code in Delphi and as a language is very nice. Fast and robust. But Borland killed it. Instead giving it to schools / unis and so for free they still wanted to make cash on it. Too greedy, IMHO.
Good point. And for cash you'll save on plasma you can buy those nice electric blinds - I've seen them somewhere for less than 300 quid. That will make true home cinema.
Mitchells and Butlers in UK (very big hospitality corp) still uses Win 3.11. In 2006, on 386 and 486 class computers. And they will not stop because it costs money. And do you have any idea how hard is to update Excel spreadsheets with a lot of version specific scripting? Plus their system is quite complicated and heavily networked.
That's true for many companies. Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
I connected my phone to router (some sh**ty Speedtouch). It work like magic. I diverted all calls through router so they go over internet. They are free in most of Europe, States, Australia, and so on (voipcheap.com). Plus they're dirt cheap to use in South America (for my wife). If I want to still use PSTN I just dial 9 + number... It works even without power, just SIP is disconnected and only PSTN works. And most important: that router is also wireless and is dirt cheap. And it doesn't take any resources from motherboard. And has built in DynDNS client +... +....
So my question is: What's the point of using Skype? Which in addition uses YOUR bandwidth to connect calls of other users!
As for now XBox 360 is dominating next gen console. And generally is not cr*p. Other thing is they're not giving it for free but pay-per-view. And no, I don't have it, nor I like playing games a lot.
What do you think about need for registration and still keeping old open way of posting? Just log in and later post with whatever nick you want. Just don't trace it or anything. You can even prepare some kind of statistics for users (how many post they posted). And of course implement some captcha.
I need to confess you're right. But at the same time why not to try? Wouldn't you be happy to be able to hack Linux while some Joes will only use it for day-to-day business? Personally I would like to see Linux as free version of Mac OS. With that great difference that you can always jump into console and recompile your kernel instead running Automatic Update. And to tweak it up your way.
Main problem with Linux is approach of Linux developers. I understand that they don't want any external, precompiled software with their free product. But that stops Linux from almost everything. Linux should be a OS, platform that runs computer. Nobody should be scared of installing anything that is precompiled (as long as it comes from legitimate source). Right now Linux doesn't have proper drivers, flash player was just added, and there're more things missing. Tell me, why? What's the problem in playing game that comes precomplied on CD? Don't you think it's much easier for Joe Average to just click 'Install' and play it? And think what would happen if we finally aggreded for that? Joe installs the game. He notices that it's much faster than on Windows. Joe loves Linux (because 'my computer is so much faster!!!'). That's the way to make way for Linux. Average users. More users in Linux world means more of them transforming into Linux developers. And more support from big companies. And more people to evangelize about it. More people realizing that there's something more than Windows XP. Only way to make Linux win that 'war' is to unite and CHANGE. And to change not users, change ourselves.
Haven't you noticed that NASA funding has got little smaller during last few years? And shuttle problems were not the only factor to blame. Think Iraq. Do you have any idea how much that war costs? Somebody needs to pay, and the most vulnerable one will. Education, as always. Even when Bush is making big promises about conquring space and such, space will belong to Chinese. They're trying to catch West, and undoubtly will do it soon. And with their economy and, more important, political system it's more posibble.
States should just give Hubble to somebody who wants to pay for it and just go with their world war business.
Ruling by UN means voting by more than 1 country about it's future. It's fair - internet is not only used in US. At the same time I can see a lot of problems because of that. What is going to happen if they can't agree on something? Like.xxx domains? Some countries will apply it and some will ban it. How can it be productive solution? And don't forget that UN is kind of EU-centric. EU is already over policed with all crazy laws. The only thing we need is to have some new ones applied for Internet.
BTW: I'm European. That doesn't stop me to say things that I belive are right only because they're agains Europe. Hear me States!
Case is still in court. It's been for about 6 months, will be for at least 1 year.

Mutual benefit.

We should be celebrating!
Like Windows since 1995.

What is so new in those cows? Two heads? Fallout style?

Hope that helps with understanding.
Best part of it is, that thanks to their witch hunt allofmp3.com is making more and more cash. Something like free advertisement.
I would say not in 30 years, but something like 12 months. Just in time for new year.
As every year...

And where is RIAAstate and MPIAcountry?
That's a point! Anyway, they were first, so they positioned themseves very nicely in the market.

Maybe one day...

Let me guess - only one very popular operating system affected?
...they run out of batteries for controllers?
Nope, you're Anonymous Coward, just check above your post.
