That sir, is cool. I'd love to mod you up as +1 informative/interesting but alas I am without mod points. Anyway Kudos for that most interesting factoid. I may have to try that one out on an anniversary present for the wife.
depends on how you play one. I think of him as a rather colorful sage. He supplies his own brand of unwanted wisdom a lot throughout the show. Since all he does is supply unwanted knowlege, insults, and trouble, his skills are most definately of a social calibur similar to a sage, just a bad one.
He does on occasion come through for them, other than that one episode where some vegetable makes him pee fire.
The more colorful the character and flaws provided can make for a much more interesting story telling.
John -> Fighter/Mage class mix I think. he does brawl and he uses Science like magic.
Rigel -> an Eccentric Sage with a tendancy for greed. He never really gets away with stealing stuff. A good thief wouldn't get caught.

I work weekends in a boring ass job by myself where I wait for the BIG RED button to start blinking. I have an 8x10 room full of control panels, a bathroom and an internet connection with VERY limited access to what i can read (filtered gov job). SO it gets a bit old when there is absolutely nothing worth reading while I sit here for 10 hours until my shift is over. I realize that I probably have a fairly unique situation and that other people may have the option to roam and read whatever they please.
Sure you want to run an April fools joke? fine but don't be the ass that sits there all day with whoopie cushions and hand buzzers that just won't give it a rest. There is such a thing as TOO MUCH.

Yeah I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who gets tired of this stupid shit. It's not even funny, just juvenile for the most part. Check other news sites and see how many of them are running "April Fools" jokes (outside of their normal sensationalistic crap). This is officially the one day of the year I'd rather read CNN/FOX news than slashdot.
Thats enough for me to not buy it. What's the point of getting better equipment and skills if all your opponents do to? Why not just supply MORE tougher opponents. I don't want to be fighting the same damn orcs after 20 hours of game play, for me that destroys any sense of accomplishment at all in the game. I hated it in FF8 and I'll hate it in this. Maybe if they make a patch later on to make the enemies getting more powerful optional. To me making the enemies ramp up with the player character sounds like a cop-out to actually adding more content for higher lev/stat players.
Well stated. Although I do not share your personal preferences, and I'm not sure what I would consider myself religiously (not aetheist) but definately not a fan of organized religion, you do have some valid points and I applaud your forwardness for risking the flames of trolls (This taking that your account is factual and not fabricated to generate support for your ideas). I read some similar thoughts on a blog the other day one of my friends sent me.
I am all for freedom of personal expression within bounds. Like the old axiom says, "Your freedom ends where mine begins." Any ideology that does not allow for differing view points is flawed.
Very hard to explain to the wife who just walked into the room on why you are clawing your own eyes. Although as part of my sadistic glee to not be psychologically maimed alone I sent her the link to tubgirl. MWAHAHAHAHAAAA
How does EVE run under Cedega? Honestly its one of the few games keeping my windows box intact. Honestly the client is a bit buggy in windows sometimes.
I believe the issue is with the availability of NON-Bundles, or crippled hardware. Who wants to pay extra money for an assload of games they don't want, or a labotomized console with half the selling-point features. So availability is an issue in my eyes. Smartest thing Microsoft could do right now (besides start producing enough consoles) is crack down on the shops forcing bundles. It's hurting their image even more.
I would have bought an Xbox Premium if I'd ever seen one. Still haven't except on ebay, and I'm just not dumb or desperate enough to pay that much for a game console or buy one of those damned "Bundles". I'm the only gamer in my house, I only need one damn controller and one damn game (at a time).
Of course the game I want for the 360 isn't out yet (oblivion) so I'm in no hurry. I'll eventually have all 3 systems without a doubt. Whether I wait till it hits the bargain bin or not before I get one is the measure.
China has stopped all shipments of everything to the US because of it's anti-communist views. Officials in the Republic were quoted as saying "Let them find out how much they need us and how much we don't need them."
Actually its used in most government conrolled facilities with undergroud piping as well. Speaking as someone who doesn't work in the arctic and maintains a network of pipes that run underround. Running a micro-charge hrough a pipe is a lot cheaper tan havig to dig the thing up and replace when it breaks. Especially if said pipe is carrying somehingnot so friendly to the environment.
Doesn't mean they have to interfere with their operation. Pixar has consistantly done well at the box office with disney just as the promoter/publisheer. I'm saying they should keep this role and Disney should butt out of the creative processes.
We do not need another sequal factory. My recommendation? Disney should leave Pixar alone. They seem to be doing just fine managing their own assets and continued box office success stories. Something disney can't claim with their own movies. So let pixar do what pixar does best and let the money flow without interference. Let disney start claiming more of that success and have stock prices go up.
I fear if they start meddling with it we're going to start ending up with a lot of straight to DVD releases that no one will really want to see.
I never asked for a free hand out on gear, just more storyline quests that I can do with my level 60 characters. I'm perfectly comfortable letting the people with nothing better to do with their life, run the same insane instances over and over and over and over and over and... you get the point.
I'm quite happy with my green/blue gear. I just want something to do with my level 60 characters. I just do not have the kind of time to sit and LFG for an hour (sometimes longer) before a raid then struggle through a 40 man raid for another 3+. The worst part is that once you are at 60 there is ZERO gain from running these dungeons except for the outside chance that some new piece of equipment you want drops and you win a random roll for it with X number of people in the raid that ALSO want that equipment.
SO basically you just keep doing the same thing like a Gambling addict at a some kind of perverted slot machine where the minutes of your life are the quarters, in the hopes of getting a return. No thank you. I'd much prefer some new rinky dink quests and storylines, like "The Missing Diplomat" that just seems to stop, and the piddly green and occassional blue rewards.
Just wonder how you would feel about dealing with those 10 Neo nazis in a dark ally. It's not stupid to protect yourself from the hordes of idiots, miscreants, and others who are intent on doing harm to others they deem different. Currently I live in germany but there are a lot of hate groups that target Americans, steal cars, beat the shit out of us when we come out of a bar. It doesn't matter that I help my landlady every week by walking her dog or shoveling the snow off her driveway, I am a target because of what others in my country are doing/have done. Now do I go around flying a big American flag? Hell no because I am interested in keeping all my teeth and body-parts intact. If you know you are going into a rough neighborhood YOU DO NOT WEAR ALL THE JEWELRY YOU OWN! its common sense, so get off your damn high horse.
People are prejudice and insecure, that's just a fact of life, it's wrong but it's still there. There are constructive ways of dealing with it, but none of them are fast and usually require generations to work out. You aren't going to fix it with an online community built around WoW, you are simply creating a free target that the haters feel they can strike at with reasonable security. If we're lucky maybe our great-great grand children will get past these stupid biases, but I'm sure they'll have plenty more of their own. Human vs AI vs Clones vs Cyborgs... I think as long as we have a dynamic society that is changing there will be prejudice simply because a lot of people are afraid of change.
great, good for you and your guild.
But over all I just don't like HAVING to sink 4 - 6 hours at a time just to LEARN a dungeon, then run it over and over again. I'd like to play a dungeon, enjoy it for what it is and move onto another challenge. I'm toying trying the D&D Online game after its been out a few months. The adventure style looks closer to what I crave rather than a hack-n-slash farm fest.
But that is my opinion, and I am sure there are many like yourself who have great guilds and have sunk many hours into great accomplishments (but honestly the way you throw around the time you are talking about investing, sounds like you are a pretty hardcore group of players with a lot of time to sink in chunks). I just don't have that kind of time to comit to a game. I work irregular hours and need a game that I can play and enjoy without having to devote and schedule 4 plus hours of my life to. Eve fits that for me right now.
It is a bit difficult to get into at first. I was actually looking for something closer to Earth and Beyond (RIP) when I started playing. The Key I think is to get into a great guild right off the bat. Sitting there all by yourself mining for hours is boring. In a guild with a lot of buddies with similar interests you can chat up a storm, venture out and kill space pirates with some of the more advanced pilots. Hell even Mining space rocks is a lot more fun in a small group of buds. When thieves come to town and try stealing your ore, you warp scramble and web them then cue your fighter squadron in to erase their ass.
There is always some mofo who thinks they can get away with some free dibs and it's hella fun to make them into space dust.
The hardest part for me in Eve was getting used to the fact that PATIENCE is a major virtue in this game. No amount of work you do is going to make you lvl up faster, just make you more money.
For the most part Eve tends to appeal more to the older gamer and less to Twitchy McTwelve-Year-Old.
Teamspeak is also a good thing to have in this game, even if talking to your computer makes you feel like and idiot.
Meaning its for older individuals? Not impressionable children? I'm not going to buy the game because it looks like a drole rehash, but keeping it out of the hands of children? The industry already did their duty with its rating. Now Parents need to do theirs and not buy the damn game for their kids. YOu don't give porn to 12 year olds, why would a game be any different. People need to wake up and realize just because its a game doesn't mean its suitable for children. I'm always astounded at what I see parents buying for their children in the games section.
It may be my opinion, but a parent that buys their kids this type of game probably wouldn't blink about giving said child a copy of Mien Komf(sp?: Hitler AutoBio) or a terrorist's manifesto because THEY NEVER READ WHAT IT IS! How damn difficult is it to LOOK at the content you are giving your children. Hell if you want to buy this game and you think your child can handle the adult subject matter and you want to take the time to discuss it with your child, fine by all means that is your right as a parent. It just drives me nuts to see all the irresponsible parents who think its everyone elses job to police their children.
Oh I understand you'll never be able to controll all that they see, but in my mind you should make a damn good effort to make sure they understand what they see and the consequences.

I'm probably going to get that at some point after it stabalizes out, gets a few patches and content upgrades. Looks promising.
