If you don't understand it, just ask, don't bitch.
The command meant that the real warriors write directly the compressed package with the program, they don't bother with hi-level programming languages and compilers etc.
No, I was going after the cheapest reasonable stuff (I usually do that when buying the first thing of its kind for I cannot know what I really need) so I bought me a nice m105. 8-)
I don't think it's impossible, I agree though it is improbable. My original post was meant as funny rather than having any insight.
As to how I can imagine the bacteria surviving the entry of Galileo into Jupiter's atmosphere: I expect the craft to explode sometime after the entry (as usual in such situations). That's because the aircraft will not be heated uniformly. Therefore in some of the cooler parts the bacteria could well survive.
Then why should it not flourish in Jupiter's atmosphere or on its surface (unless that's too hot of course)?
Sure, again, I don't expect them to mutate and multiply so that we'd soon see their descendants, Jovians, attacking us anytime soon. 8-)
But you can't just suspend the processes that hog the memory because you are already in a situation where you don't even have any free swap. Therefore the dirty pages would just stay in memory.
You could save some memory in this way but all such situations would require the attention of either the process's owner (to kill or resume it) or of the admin in case the owner is unavailable.
OK, OOM killer might become configurable (which it may be already, I don't know), but it should at least be an option.
I don't know about the "farther than Czech Republic from Greece" thing, I've traveled from OR to Chicago and it didn't seem far, but I've never been to Greece because it's so damn far.8-)
I just tried to look up a few IPs located in the Czech Republic (like our universities' web servers) and also our IP and the results were (apart from unknowns):
Essex, UK
Split, Croatia,
Greece
Prague, Czech Republic (the main DNS server of the main academic ISP)
So I still have to be doubtful about US's knowledge of Europe.
I for one will still want to hack on my $50 wallet-sized multi-gigahertz computer just because one-fits-all is not true.
I've been using FVWM in X (those who don't know what I'm talking about probably don't need to know what I'm talking about) for as long as I've been using UNIX systems, and that would be six years now. I've never stopped tweaking my config and every now and then I have to hack something, too.
The environment is very good now, but it's not perfect. And nobody else would be able to use it efficiently, because it grew with me.
I wonder, how often do you have to change the state of the keyboard, pressing or releasing the space key? Isn't that going to be a major problem for typing speed?
So soon we'll start hearing that BitKeeper doesn't scale, right?8-)

(dwim - do what I mean)
cat > prog.tgz
10 hours of 15 watts is 150 watt-hours, cca 540 kJ.
120ml of methanol burned means about 500kcal of energy - about 2 MJ max retrievable by burning.
This does indeed look nice.
I just bought myself a new POP!
My POP crashed again!
etc. Would you buy a POP instead of a PC?8-)
This may be very old news, in any case, how does this relate to DotTV mentioned in the linked article?
Oh, and I was a bit time-pressed then, too.
When I was buying my palm, I was considering Clie, too, but I was told that Clie IR only communicates with other Sony devices. Is this still true?

They'd rather contaminate the much larger world of Jupiter instead, right?

Oh, right, since the beginning, sorry for bothering you...
Am I right? Am I right? I sure am right. Am I? 8-)
