What do you base your criticism of Phoronix on, exactly?
How about because they're the Daily Mail of tech news? Did you sleep through the years of bullshit about Steam and UT3? Ever noticed the fact they sound the klaxons five minutes after any minor bug in a 2.6.X-rcY kernel is found? How about the fifty pages of graphs per article just to deliver fifty times as many ads?
Because that's what it all boils down to: Phoronix only exists for the sole purpose of trolling sites like Slashdot so they can rake in the cash. If I wanted hardware benchmarks there's no shortage of sites for those that are actually run by people with a clue, and if I want Linux news I go read Heise's site.
Why would anyone buy this for the apps when nobody can write apps for it without being filthy rich and signing away their firstborn? If your phone's only good for Android apps you might as well run them natively.
Tiny RAM space is one of the methods they use to slow down piracy. It's harder to hide bootloader-based copy protection cracking in resident memory if all of it needs to be used legitimately.
Dunno about you, but I find it much nicer to be using software that I know isn't making developers scream in frustration and want to stab me in the face for continuing to use it.
I'm having a hard time believing something and you sound like you could confirm it: Does Call of Duty 4 actually exist? As in, they made the same game 4 times with insignificant changes and morons like you actually keep buying it in large enough numbers to make it profitable?
Pentium 4? Fuck all of you, I'm using a Pentium 3 Celeron at work and I had to salvage PCs getting thrown in the trash just to not be running on the 256MB RAM it came with. And I don't even have the excuse of doing office work for justifying that piece of trash. I'm doing development, and I spend most of my time waiting for the terminal windows to redraw as I scroll down a text file.
They did seem to take your advice though. The office PCs that run Firefox and Excel all day are all Core2s with 1080p LCDs. DVI ones at that.
They don't need the 3 e's any more - they just make up bullshit like this, spam it everywhere until people start to use it, then surface their submarine patents.
These patents are valid only in Fuckupistan (the US), right? No problem in that case; nobody would be able to afford the fruits of the research anyway.
It's like YouTube, but given that this is in the UK and not america, it's used to watch things called "programmes" instead of ads, and the viewing area isn't surrounded by hordes of drooling morons with their egos permanently rammed into the shift key.
It's unsurprising you might find it a bit strange.

But it's fine if I link to those litigious bastards from someone else's site, right?

Why hasn't anyone turned East Texas into a glass desert already? Fuck them, they're terrorists.

There's an easy fix for that: block javascript and turn on classic discussion mode. Not only will /. actually work, it'll feel 10 times faster!
%g//d!!!
Newspapers killed a few million trees and the ecosystems they were supporting, so I'd say that's a change for the better.
Use Krita. All the excuses photoshop fanbois wheel out every time GIMP is mentioned don't apply to it, and this has been the case for years.
Yeah, and what's with that browser plugin named after exposing oneself in public?

That's why it's a requirement to specify the language used.
Only for a language other than the standard default.

He seems to have no shortage of free time to sandbag most of that thread with ego-stroking PR and vapid credential assertions.
I find it more informative to look at which comments he doesn't respond to. Not even to say "that's false". The silence is deafening.
I did note that they use the label "consumers", and not "customers".
Which base64-decodes to:
Which, predictably, redirects to this:

Well in that case I'm Spartacus.
Oh and 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0 to them, for good measure.
Is the internet Closed or Open as a result of this?

'Cause now I'm interested.
