http://tokbox.com/ does multi person video conferencing all through flash and the web browser, so no need to install an app. I believe Flash 10 supports v4l and v4l2 so it should work in linux, haven't tested it though.
According to http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2977, the new Nvidia 8500 and 8600 series cards have 100% H.264 offload acceleration, so it might be the kind of card you are looking for. The 8500 is also relatively cheap, coming in under $100. As for Beryl/Compiz, even a Radeon 7000 and integrated graphics will do, while for Aero Glass most DirectX9 compliant cards will handle it well.
I'm a newbie Visual Basic.NET programmer, but I installed this on wine in ubuntu to see how it would run one of my apps. Sadly, it didn't run my app very well at all, showing the interface, but not letting me do much else. The message boxes didn't support multiple lines either.
Actually, the 360 is now making some money for Microsoft, $75 per every premium sold. Of course, at launch they were losing $126 a piece, but improved manufacturing really flips it.
Reviews such as here and here show that Vista gaming performance is actually better than XP's in Direct3D applications, at least with AMD's more mature drivers. OpenGL performance, on the other hand, is horrible, along with Nvidia's drivers altogether. But Vista gaming isn't as bad as the article makes it out to be.
Try http://www.genevalogic.com/index.php?id=us. I know a school that uses this, and it allows the teacher to close any programs running on a student's computer and force a blank screen when the teacher wants to, and probably some other stuff too.
Weren't there about 20 Core 2 Duo reviews/comparisons with Athlon 64 X2's on July 23 when Core 2 officially launched? We've known these results for longer than a month.
Nobody even knows all of the features that are going to be in Leopard, except for The Steve himself. Sure anyone can bash WWDC, but what importance does it have when there are "top secret" features to be released? Although mostly everyone agrees that these features are secret because they are buggy, they still could be something important that could warrant the price for uprading your OS every 1 or 2 years.
I've been using VMware server for Ubuntu 6.06 and Windows Vista beta 2. It has a certain cool factor to it, and Ubuntu runs fast enough that you could run at least 2 applications, such as Firefox and GAIM, but for actual work on a CPU without VT support, it's extremely painful. And without graphics hardware virtualization (which ATI and Nvidia better integrate soon in their GPUs), running even a GUI like Vista Standard is slow and cumbersome.
for its lack of W3C compliance, etc...but you all are missing what is important, that the browser is shinier than the competition. This why firefox still has only a 10% hold of the market, its not shiny enough. Look at the beautiful glossed up buttons on IE7B3 and you know this to be true.
Bring on the shiny!
There have been Conroe previews several sites, all of them using intel preconfigured boxes. The only way to make sure of Conroe's performance is to benchmark it once its bought. I'm sorry if I'm a bit of a sceptic, but I don't trust these boxes made by Intel to market Conroe.
When only 15% of American households have HD, going with an ultra expensive storage format only intended for a niche market is not a smart thing. When they don't have HDTVs, consumers can't see any benefits to warrant such a high price, and they'll save their money for something else.
It's jackass policies like this that make kids slander school officials in the first place. Honestly, when kids are restricted this way, they only fight back harder. If the school thinks the kids' blogs are inappropriate now...
I'm sorry for all the apple fanboys out there, but I think WMP 11 actually has a better GUI and is less of a memory hog than iTunes. Hopefully this a sign of better things to come.

They already have another Blu-ray player out under $1000: the PS3.

http://www.isuppli.com/news/default.asp?id=6919 I tried to find it earlier and place it within my earlier post, but I failed miserably.

If you're an overclocker, the Asus P5B's new BIOS revision supports multiplier unlocking for non Extreme Core 2 processors, as http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2822 points out.
I'm sorry, I don't even own a mac, but the powers of the steve are too much to ignore. :P

When you can do stuff with your PSP like this: http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/09/psp-controlled- honda-civic/ or http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/09/use-your-psp-as -a-pc-joystick/ why is everybody complaining about it?
