His comment is a reference to a case where a guy was overcharged for data because Verizon reps couldn't figure out the difference between 0.002 cents and 0.002 dollars. Verizon Can't Do Math
The instant replay rule has ruined college spitball. The professors aren't worried about making a good call anymore because of official reviews, and its making the classes longer and ruining spitball. Just get rid of it.
We might get to the point where we can write text messages by speaking, then the person on the other end could have them read aloud by a computer. That would be so awesome. Maybe some day we'll be able to transfer the actual sound of our voices.
The chart in TFA is tracking search volume of "Microsoft Sites". The MSDN search has always been through Microsoft (Bing or not), so the switch to Bing on MSDN shouldn't affect the search volume through Microsoft sites, assuming the same volume of searches are going through search bar on MSDN. That said, I personally used to use google with "site:msdn.microsoft.com" before MSDN switched to Bing, so in that way, the switch to Bing on MSDN at least brought in a few more searches by me.
For what it's worth, Turbine (LotRO, DDO, AC) has announced that they're developing a console MMO. It might be a port of LotRO, or an entirely new game.
I don't know the details about those surveys, but it seems like the type of thing that the company would require you to sign an agreement that you won't use the names for your own purpose before they choose one of them, plus an NDA so you won't share it with someone not bound by the agreement.
Plus, it would make sense for the company to register domain names for all of its prospective names before sending out the survey.
In Massachusetts, we have an annual tax-free weekend during the summer. A quick google search suggests that Tennessee does the same thing (perhaps even one in the spring as well?)
You've missed the one for this year, but you might want to keep it in mind if you ever want to buy something expensive from Newegg in the future... or if you're really in no rush to get a new computer.
The fact is, on today's multi GHz, multi-core systems, a 10% drop in network performance would be outrageous for something as simple as playing an MP3 or other audio stream... 50% is ludicrous... and I can't even think of a word to describe what an 85-90% drop would constitute. Plaid.
I called two days ago. The automated welcome message said that I'd talk to a rep within 3 minutes. It then had an automated message about a ticket code that I should get from my account online to speed the process. I didn't even have time to go to the netflix page before a rep answered me.
Overall, it was under a minute of wait time; this was around 6pm on a weekday. The person I talked to was very friendly and helpful.
If I video a crime in front of my house and report it in any kind of mass media, I fully expect the cops to want all information I can provide in the pursuit of their investigation and for them to get a court order requiring me to provide that information.
Of course, you probably should avoid making snide remarks about the victim on the tape unless you want to be jailed for violating the good samaritan law! (Not even Jackie Chiles can save you).

Wow! Very eloquent, Quiet_Desperation. You should be an author.

But what if the Colbert bump knocks it out of orbit?
But.. but.. Hiro told me to unplug my electronic devices when I'm not using them, and he was inside my TV!
Who am I going to believe, some random poster on /. or a guy who can stop time?!
Yeah, I did a quick Google search too, and found a very informative /. discussion as the third result: http://ask.slashdot.org/askslashdot/08/10/29/1943231.shtml

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but words like "unlimited" are marketing words only. EVERYTHING is limited and finite.
That's not true! My internet bandwidth *is* unlimited, up to 250gb/month.
Congratulations, you found a bug in beta software.
I have an insightful response to this. I'll type it up tomorrow.
