    While I am sure you're right, and he certainly deserves some sort of punishment, does up to 10 years in prison (with up to three years of supervision after release) and a fine totaling up to $250,000 sound like proportional punishment to you?
    I am genuinely curious, because to me even if he gets half of that it seems like total overkill to me.
    The silly boy is probably an entitled prick, and was fired for good reasons, but wouldn't a few months prison, and some probation seem like an appropriate response?

    I have, and I could see the curve of the Earth for myself. Maybe they should just go on a plane trip somewhere.

  4. Flying cars would be a disaster for the environment, as they will set large areas on fire when they crash, as they will regularly.
    I suppose flying cars will help keep the population down though, so that might be a win for the environment.

    It's an OK troll, not the worst, but replies too much on the "nerd" insult which is so 1990's.
    I liked the Cathar reference, lots of people would have had to look that up. Spoiled by the "How would you like a nice cup of.." trope, which once again has not aged well.
    Need to try harder.

    Do you really think that these "privately run" prisons give perks and bonuses to LEOs who arrest people?

    Why would you think they wouldn't? They will have financial goals, like every other business in the world, and what easier way to meet or exceed those? As the other poster has pointed out, if they can bribe a judge, how much cheaper and easier to pay off the cops? Especially since the vast majority of cases are plea-bargained to get innocent people to plead guilty and into prison as quickly and cheaply as possible.
    Why do you think the US has 4% of the world's population, but 22% of the world's prisoners? It is no accident.

    Good lord! Their tagline is "Promoting Safe and Productive Automotive Technology" which is the exact opposite of what they're doing.
    We have a charge where I live called "careless use of a motor vehicle" and I think anyone with one of those could be charged with exactly that.

    No, the takeaway is that the Swiss are testing the online voting system they haven't put into production yet, and they have found a major hole.
    Because they're Swiss, the next step will be to fix it.

  25. At this point your health system just turns you into the serfs your ruling class wants so badly.
    You need to hope like hell your boss lets you work more than 30 hours a week, or any minor illness to you or a member of your family will bankrupt you.
    Except that even if you do get some health insurance with your job, you probably still have to stump up thousands if you get sick, or hundreds of thousands if you get really sick.
    Can you explain why you continue to accept such things as "co-pays"? As someone who lives in a country with a proper taxpayer funded health system, it just seems barbaric.
