    That is so funny.

I love the weirdo US far right. They are extremely entertaining, especially when I see Sarah Palin on the news giving a "speech".

If there are any other speakers on the bill, you can see them in the background with looks of utter revulsion on their faces, because even other right wing weirdos think she's beyond the pale.

  4. I had this vague hope that London Has Fallen might be some awesome alternate history thing about the Nazis winning WWII, but no, part of a "Franchise" the first of which was a total load, but made money.

The Catholic Church is not afraid of science, true enough, as you point out, they employ a bunch of scientists, and have done for a long time.

Other religions are terrified of science however, Islam being a good example. In the early Middle Ages Islam was the centre of scientific progress, but the religious elements suppressed science, based on the notion that the explanation that "God wills it" is enough. (This is probably simplistic, but is my rough understanding).

Islam is not the only anti-science religious group though, from the Scopes Monkey trial to attempts to teach Creationism in science classes in the US, various Protestant groups are obviously anti-science.

The lower age range there are going to be 15, 16, 17 and 18 year olds who are not in school or training of some kind, and who will employ them?

I have checked and school is compulsory until 16 in Canada, so any 15 year old not in school probably has some other problems in their life, making employment even less likely.

He is however correct about tablets being awkward for anything other than browsing the web, which is why that's exactly what they are used for.

Any tiny Linux handheld is a niche device, which is why no mainstream manufacturer will make them.

It sounds like there is no real market for Internet access in many places in the US.

  15. I'm not sure to be honest. Wikipedia says they bought up all their competition in the early 20th Century, and had various anti-trust finding against them, but until Bell was broken up in 1984 the terms all seem pretty generous.

With what I know of US politics, I'm going to go right ahead and assume they used a tiny portion of their profits to buy off politicians, because that's exactly what the current telecoms monopolies do.

  16. The ultimate goal of all businesses is to have 100% of the market they operate in.

The US broke up Bell exactly because they were a monopoly, and service suffered as a result.

The broken up bits of Bell have spent the last few years trying to re-form, and it looks like they will succeed.

Also, what the hell is a "Tech Community"? Is it some sort of industry group or something?. The article is pretty short on details.

What the stupid article fails to mention is that we have a points system for immigrants, if you don't reach the points threshold, you don't get in, even if you have a job offer (although a firm job offer is usually enough).

So you might get a free week in Wellington, and if the gale force winds are to your liking you might get a job offer, then not be allowed to stay anyway.
