I occasionally get a glimpse of US news shows (clips and some cnn), the contrast with bbc or al jazeera is pretty striking:
The most important piece of information is always the name of the host, which is repeated every 5 seconds. The hosts seem to be picked up straight from plastic surgery, complemented by exaggerated facial expressions. Its roughly 5 minutes of program then 5 minutes of commercials. If there are 2 hosts they spend half the time demonstrating their "chemistry" for eachother, its painful to watch. The graphics remind me of old arcade cabinets, classy like las vegas. Interviews are rude and annoying, the object seems to be that noone should speak a complete sentence.
I dont think its odd americans dont trust news, theres nothing trustworthy about it.
design is arguably a strength of ubuntu, I think they are getting pretty damn good at it too. It runs on everything, which is a unique strength compared to others. Eventually, instead of having a different os on every gadget, ubuntu on all. Its easy enough to use for non-techies (my whole family uses it) while having full linux power under the hood. They have tons of karma, I would like them to succeed, which hopefully is a common sentiment and will pay off.
sony sells the ps3 at a loss, gambling that game purchases will give profit. With otheros it was increasingly popular to buy them in bulk and use in clusters, with no game purchases.
Maybe they also ran into licensing issues with the cell chip, if it was used for other than entertainment.
I cut all foods with added sugar (basically all processed stuff) a couple years ago, dont miss it at all now. The best part is after a couple months off sugar your taste buds seem to wake up and everything else tastes great.
I support it wholeheartedly, I dont want a society where everything I do has to be filtered through a lawyer in case it infringes on something. Some people have to change their business model, I support helping them do so but not through laws.
Today your life can be destroyed because you downloaded some string of bits, are we going to support something this ridiculous?
My first thought also, this is a full retreat by sony. Would have liked to see geohot win in court but he probably didnt want to spend years there, which is understandable...
I think its an excellent way to protest, and very effective since companies dont know if its backed up by other, more skilled individuals. It isnt going to do any damage but it will make many sonyers nervous about getting hbgaryed.
Besides, what other forms of protest are there on the web? Angry forum posts?
You cant educate everyone about everything, the time when the world was that simple has long passed, if it ever existed. A solution to this is specialized political parties, which are very common in more enlightened parts of the world.
With 2 parties that basically spend their energy tearing down what the other built the previous term, you are screwed.
so how many brains have you lost so far??

they had unprotected relations with ms and contracted a ceo
will meet you all here again when its Nokias turn
and delivered by people willing to give their life for it (which they likely did.)

Id just like to point out a flaw in your big picture; the american would eat the gorilla

Copyright and a free internet are not compatible.
that wont work, its AC. youll get 1 half period of smarts and then 1 half of stupid.
cant say I feel like giving them money knowing some of it will be spent suing people
the story before this one was "Students Build Life-Sized Trojan Horse For Class Project"
Sure, Ill take some double standards, looks good next to my giant bias.
I dont remember swearing to treat evil crap companies the same as decent ones.

running that browser in a safe environment does matter tho, do you want linux or windows underneath when doing your banking?

surely satanism is as valid a religion as any other, and a downright peaceloving one if you compare bodycount with some of the mainstream ones.
Comparing it to prohibition misses one giant point tho:
During prohibition noone made money fighting the smugglers and mafia.
Today the war on drugs is a huge industry with enormous momentum.
Smugglers using subs is an economic gift to the whole industry, now they get to dust off the old cold war sub defenses and sell them again.
any other sources on this, it seems an incredibly stupid thing to do for a non-microsoft company.
I used to have a bit of respect for ars, but after the embarrasing paid-for articles regarding mpeg and webm I dont trust or read them anymore.
dressing up as a dinosaur should do the trick
