very old news but nice to see some attention on it.

Just a note, there are still competent studios that focus on quality for those that value it.

  8. sound &c. on Pimping Out a New House · · Score: 1

I agree with all the others on tubing, that and huge junction boxes and you can go nuts when all the rest is done. Just remember if you put everything in one central enclosure, make it big and ventilated. Also, if any 3 phase high current runs (not sure about US, this is used as feeder where I live) its best to use cable as opposed to wire runs in a tube, as a cable it wont make much of a magnetic field (the twisted wires in the cable cancel eachother). If you want a good listening room, it might be worth treating the walls as it can make a huge difference in sound quality. http://www.stereophile.com/reference/31/index.html is a good start. Personally I would never put speakers in the wall, and would rather buy 2 good speakers for stereo than 7 crappy ones for surround :) Separate heavy wire power runs to this room is a good idea, to avoid appliances etc. interfering. Good luck!

  9. Re:12 volt wiring system paralleling the 120 volt on Pimping Out a New House · · Score: 2, Informative

12v for anything but signals is very wasteful, what you take away in volts you have to compensate for with amps, which generate heat and require heavy wiring. ex. to run a 400w pc off 12v youd need approx. 33amps. while you wont be electrocuted, fire is a real danger as its hard to protect against weak short circuits.

  10. thinking too small on The Ultimate Reset Button · · Score: 1

as a complement, one could put an old-school 3 phase knife-type circuit breaker on the psu, you get them pretty much as large as you can imagine.

bonus, your pc will be protected from 1000+ amp short circuits.

I found it utterly uninspired and boring, much the same as Vanguard.
There is absolutely nothing new there if youve played any mmo before, new players might find it fun for awhile tho Ill grant.

The graphics are good, sure, if you like the style, it only matters for a short while tho, without gameplay underneath its wasted.

can someone clue me in why this is important? not saying it isnt, I just dont get the need to watch the same film in 99 marginally different ways. so many formats, players, media, cables, settings, converters just to watch a stored stream of images. quality? convenience? more curious than critical, obviously alot of effort was put into this and Id like to know what Im missing :)

Good luck to the new owners!

  16. avast! on Best of the Free Anti-virus Choices? · · Score: 1

just a nod to the makers of avast!, have used this for years now. no hassle, frequent (several times a day sometimes) updates and all the features I need. this together with ad-aware have kept my win2k running fine for about 4 years now, 24/7 connection and no firewall.
