Most of it IS done by robots. That giant tractor looking machine that resurfaces the road while it has a driver is 90% automated and makes the process MUCH faster than we could in past. There is no point in removing the rest of the crew because for the remaining jobs they do humans are still cheaper.

How'd this get modded up? The GP was saying you can't export houses. Which should be pretty fucking obvious. And he gets modded up for being offtopic?

Anyways its apples and oranges. Japanese places are usually apartments and their value is based on how close it is to a train stop. Alot of japanese places have smaller baths because space is expensive as fuck if you are living in tokyo. And their are public onsen or pools that people go to. Fireplaces would be really stupid in most of japan and are unavailable in alot of new houses in the us anyways. Its a relic of a historical period in the US why would they exist in japan? You'd have to go miles to get wood and you would really look insane chopping down a tree in japan its something that is not done. Cultural differences. US houses last longer, Japanese houses are newer, its a trade off. Japanese places are more communal. They have way faster internet(for the /.ers) they have better appliances and are convenient! In the US you can live in endless suburbia where you drive a few miles past houses until you get to the city. In japan you walk 2minutes, wait at a station for 2minutes and read the paper, watch tv or text people while you wait to get to work. This wouldn't be possible if Japan used the US' system. Totally different beasts.

"inherent value in using the lowest level language available" Not for aps sure. But in a competitive gaming situation? Absolutely! Low level languages CAN always be better than high level languages. The cost of entry is just higher. If you coded everything in assembly you could make a GTA twice as fast as once coded in something like C++ or VB (pretty sure you actually couldnt get it running at all in VB but still). You can be alot more direct. high level languages just allow you to give more generalized commands thats all. If you want it to be easy pick the highest level language you want, but it you want it to be bleeding edge fast, sucks but use lower level languages. In some places where code is ran alot you actually will see noticable speed increases by coding your own asm implementation. As you said, its all about the right tool for the job.

And they have no problem using our products if they are better. iPod is one example. Japanese products are often better for electronics. DS > PSP in japan, hotspots free games better selection and better suport for japan. PS3 >>> xbox in japan the ps3 is cheaper and has many more games, and games are more targeted towards japanese people. And japanese people are fussy about food (though that mentality is changing). So i call BS.

Sheesh if you saved it up you'd get a day off once every 30 years. Which reminds me, nevermind ISPs. Same with the vista-ready label/lawsuits. And no, i'm not talking about microsoft. What kind of stupid company running older machines would bother upgrading OSes? What would be the point? To make the machine run slower and cause compatibility issues? Let home users work out all the bugs over a year or so and then upgrade AS you upgrade machines. I never upgraded my old dos machine to windows when it came out because even if it could run it would run slow as shit. Same reason i wouldn't install KDE on a netbook. New OSes shouldn't HAVE to explicitly support old hardware. People on old hardware should use the OS that they had when they bought it, maybe the next gen.

I know Linux is pro and can support like every part made but is there a requirement to do this? No, its the same as putting linux on a toaster. Windows should be keeping minimal winXP support for a few more years and have win7 be for only new machines, fuck supporting outdated hardware. This is one of the reasons ps3 games suck, because they are supporting xbox, pandering to the lowest common denominator.

I salute both the pro and anti MS crowds who shall soon mod me troll.
