In that sense it is completely impossible to have international corporations or international websites. That seems a little stupid. BTW if/. wanted to be US centric they could have gotten www.slashdot.org.us which would be the US domain.
On top of that the creator of this site was born and raised in Holland. It'd suck if he weren't able to contribute to discussions not being American born.
The reason I called you a douche is because you have a clearly America-centric view of the planet. And I think that is an arrogant thoughtless view.
So while they were classified as tests with several hundred nuclear bombs used they did get jobs done during testing. That said, having read more about them I may have chosen words other than "they worked well".... maybe just "they worked mostly".:P The risk of having civilians with nukes in a variety of lesser controlled areas seems.... bad even if they worked well.
In the 50s we did use nukes for some big earth moving jobs and they worked well. We have since developed bombs that are much less radioactive. Anyways... at worst we could use the russian non-nuclear bombs which are almost as big.
My best friend's dad is a cop, he has pulled his gun once in his career (he's retiring in the next few years). And it was on a dog. He says other people on the force are similar.
And agreed about the native-government thing. We treat them totally different than other people which is wrong and leads to stupidity like caledonia, they all should have been arrested, ending it instantly.
At least the gov gets money out of it. Perhaps it can be used to improve hospitals or something for the people who will die from the lack of obedience (dyamn that sounded totalitarian).
Having crossed the border 20x in the past few years by bus (about 50 ppl each). I've personally seen 1000 people go through the border.
Average time to get through US customs is 2.5x as long. One time it took almost 3 hours to cross to the US, fastest was 25minutes. Record times to Canada was 45minutes on the slow side, 8 minutes on the fast side.
Going to US side the number of bags I've seen searched through is > 50people (~5%). I've seen only 1 bag searched through Canada side.
US side I've witnessed a border guard pull a gun on a traveller (he went to the bathroom at the border and left his bags out without telling anyone). In Canada I've never seen an officer pull a gun (btw, have seen guns pulled in the US ~5times).
Almost all of my busmates Canadian AND US seems to agree that going to the US is more of a pain in the ass then Canada even when you are a citizen.
Going to Mexico by plane is less intimidating same with Italy and England. Interestingly it isn't for Japan because the flight makes a layover in the US where you have to go through their security.
I have always felt uncomfortable and unsafe while entering the states and I know it isn't just me.
In the line of "Possession of Cocaine while Black". I learned that until 2003 there were laws against "sodomy while not married" in some states aka "being gay" that could get you 10years~life. Seems clear cut political to me.
Actual racing is somewhat mindless after a few hundred laps on the track unless you are jostling for position (also there are 4 3~km straights). You are more like gliding, programming CAN require effort and thinking the whole time if you are problem solving.
Take a photograph of an engineering or CS study area in a library in any big university. I guarantee > 50% will be wearing headphones. That should say something.
I respect Stallman and his ideas in the exact same way I respect Ron Paul. He has clearly given it a lot of thought and he has balls enough to say exactly what that is, but mannnn in reality things don't always work that way.
I hope lots of companies without billions of dollars sue Google and others like this. It will build up a precendent of this is stupid. So whenever the major labels try it they will have to work extra hard.

I personally like the politics section. It definitely fits into the 'stuff that matters' category. And I like the variety of opinions available. Though they are misused sometimes people on/. point out fallacies, how many other sites can claim that?
Idle on the other hand is like it was design to drag/. down.
The average cop has to pull his gun once every 50 years or so in Toronto. I can't imagine that many shooting ranges are necessary.
Also I'd add to the teenagers that there are a lot of American natives that came up to caledonia with guns... lots of them. And made the situation worse than it would have been.
Insightful? Really? Cheeky maybe. I challenge you to watch Palin talk about anything then watch Gore talk about anything. Even if Gore isn't a super genius, compared to Palin he is Einstein.
This isn't a troll/. she really is just really really stupid.
You don't shoot a fireball with a vector... You shoot it at a target. Pretty sure you've no idea what you are talking about. AOE's are pretty simple since they (rarely) have a time based aspect, you just hit everything in range when you release the spell. And all of a character's gear/stats/w/e are stored in ram and only loaded when the character enters the screen, this isn't all needed immediately either... Stats or actions can be loaded after gear loads which comes after position. Anyways, you don't know what you are talking about (I've taken part in a few oss mmos so i've done some of the coding for this stuff)
Errr... from a server POV having characters that move their arms and make noise has NO effect.
EVE doesn't have terrain but wow doesn't have objects in any real sense. In eve bullets/lasers/missiles are actual objects that move and require impact detection. In wow, spells, arrows, w/e are all targeted to a person and they hit or miss, completely run client side. Terrain/obstacles in wow only effect spells half the time... generally you can shoot through most obstacles (this has been improving) but not through terrain. And I imagine you can fly near/through bigger ships. that requires impact detection going on.
Disclaimer: I haven't played eve nearly as much as wow.

Minimum wage in many countries actually increases with inflation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Plowshare was the US thing, seems like it was just a bunch of tests, 104kiloton nuke seems serious though.

The soviets did 240 tests: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_Explosions_for_the_National_Economy

Perhaps not on /. because of the site but sites with huge groups could actually have good content if it were sufficiently filtered.

If the whole server rack goes down and everyone in a continent DCs I'm pretty confident that counts as server side :P
