Non laggy fights in wow cap at 120v120 ~ 160v160 tops depending on the day (and that causes heavy lag). 300v300 causes the entire realm to go down disconnecting every player for 15minutes.
To be fair though blizz is improving this number. They had to with wintergrasp (allows 120v120 fights). Not that they are improving huge battles but they are making 120v120 not horribly laggy so I assume they'll learn from the experience.
WOW servers cap at 30,000 people... they lag like shit at 25,000. Here is the big thing though, >600 players moving in one map will crash the server in wow. In eve there have been BATTLES involving >600 people at once that occur with minimal to no lag over 4~5hour periods.
In any case 54,000 players at once is already an achievement.
World PVP was not killed by zerging ganking or imbalance. It was killed by server capacity.
I've personally organized a few 300+ person raids. The 1st time was terrible, the server went down and you couldn't log back in for 20minutes, when you did you were likely dead due to the 5x1 ratio at the time. It was meaningless to set proper teams/raids because it would never stay up that long.
2nd time I tried hitting every alliance city at once. This worked in the minor cities, mostly... since less defenders came. But by the time fighting was nicely under way the whole continent DCs.
World pvp was ruined because it is not actually possible. It has nothing to do with balance, you never get that far.
I hear the sahara is moving north/southward about 40km/yr. That's pretty fucking bad... ~5meters/hour.
And just to throw it in. It is man cause desertification. There isn't any question of this because it hasn't been made into a political issue. Goes to show that man can fairly easily and inadvertently change the face of the earth.
It isn't as big a deal as you make it sound. There are often light fixtures that use copper or aluminum wiring. If you don't get all the fixtures at one place there is a good chance you'll be mixing them up. And it isn't a real concern.
We are forced to remain members of modern society. If you think long enough about what people might have what information on you Google handing data over to cops with warrants is the least of your worries. I'm sure dozens of government organizations have tons of data on you, plenty from countries other than your own as well. And companies that have data on you? Near countless.
That's fine... GP said "legal things people may search for which they still might not want to be public knowledge."... but that isn't a concern since Google was referring only to illegal things.
If your proxy gets asked by the US gov to hand over data they are as likely to do so as google. So I'd be checking your proxy's setup very carefully, many don't offer any more protection (aside from the fact that your proxy is another level, and it makes it more annoying to get wide swathes of data).
True but they were also talking about the cops getting info. I don't think they'll be plastering your searches online. But if you commit a felony that data will be available to cops. Really not shocking.
And anal sex was made legal in all states by 2003 (scary o_o).

Unless google runs thoughtcrime i'm pretty sure it isn't their fault that laws in various places are tantamount to thoughtcrime. People sucking isn't Goggle's fault even if they could see it coming. They ARE still a company not... some sort of arbiter of truth and peace on the world.
Cuba has a bump because a lot of US reporters go there to annoy them. As well they are less likely to 'disappear' journalists than China/Iran/Burma. Not saying it is right at all. Just saying they have more opportunity to jail journalists. (You don't see so many people running off to Iran to report vs Cuba)...
That is really excessive. You can melt your fingerprints off with battery acid... or like any harsh chemical. surgically swapping them sounds way harder @_@
It'll probably make it 130km in the air so it isn't a normal plane ride... (Which do like 12k). It advances different parts of it. Just because it isn't about to do a moon landing doesn't mean it isn't valuable.
They seem to have a fairly elegant launch system and a VERY elegant landing system. I'm sure they have other advances as well.
Now of course the patent system will kill any chances of this being used. And people are often to prideful to not reinvent the wheel half the time anyways. (It'd be neat to see the US license some russian tech rather than spend billions re-figuring shit out)
Opt-in dns through google is ONLY for well informed nerds. And any evil they tried to commit with it would have failed horribly. And I mean exploded in google's face.
This idea for spreading opt-out dns could however be used for evil. With a lesser chance of it exploding in their face since not 100% of the users are well informed nerds.
"HTML5, which removes the need for flash in it's entirety."
Errr..... It might remove a lot of flash videos on streaming sites. I don't think it will impact flash games... And people with flash sites are unlikely to do differently.
;; /. should have special occasions like this where you can rate a post to +6

"it's actually quite difficult to find a proper party for a mid level dungeon like maraudon, uldaman or that sort of thing."
But the title of this article solves that problem....

Gliding and landing is nicer than a lot of the parachute->bail in the ocean systems :P

Yeah, thenewpr does a GREAT job working against astroturfing. I'd rate it 5/5!
Expect this number to drop SHARPLY with windows7 out.
Hey! Microsoft made the copy-prevention circumvention tools! Sue them.
RO private servers are often better than official servers. So it can be done well, just there is a terrible signal:noise ratio.

I've seen this Vshael guy, he really is 7' tall green and adorned with tusks.
I'm not sure how you expect 'person goes by unnoticed' to make the news....
According to mythbusters you could get past most scanners with a photocopy of someone else's fingers :P
