Well, "totaled" is relative in your case. I had an '86 Cavalier that was "totaled" by someone breaking the lock on the door (and damaging the body around the lock) to try to steal my stereo (rather unsuccessfully). However, my insurance company was nice enough to give me $1100 to get it fixed since the car was otherwise fully operational. The point is that unless the car is totally destroyed, "totaled" is relative to how much the car is worth to you and how much you're willing to pay to fix it. In my case, I can't justify a $20000+ purchase of a new car (I refuse to buy a used car if I'm going to buy another car) until my car either can't be fixed or is totally destroyed.

You, sir, are a smart man. Everyone laughs because I refuse to buy a new car to replace my '92 Saturn SL2, but the fact is, it's just cheaper to fix the things that go wrong every now and then than to buy something new. Sure, it's not the greatest car, but it get's me where I need to go (even if it's across the country) and gets around 30 mpg. Unless the car is totaled, it's almost always cheaper to fix it than to buy something new. However, this doesn't really apply to computers. Finding upgrade parts or replacement parts can be expensive when compared to buying a whole new system.

On the other hand, there are games (I've seen it a few times in sports), where once the AI realizes it's losing, it suddenly gets much better at the game it's playing.
Good God, this is especially annoying in racing games (EA racing games do it a lot). You're kicking ass for the first three laps of the race, but then on the last lap, the AI goes from being 10 seconds back to being 1 second back in a matter of about 2 seconds, even though you've not messed anything up at all. I'm sorry, but that's just impossible unless you've got a rocket strapped to the back of the car and it's on rails.

The game that pisses me off the most is the first NFSU. You can be driving the same exact car as the AI, but for some reason the AI is not only faster, but handles better as well. The AI should have the same limits that I do. Just because they're controlled by the computer, does not mean they should be able to out-perform me in every way. Sure the AI could "learn" to drive better, and even drive perfect laps to make it harder, but don't give them the ability to turn hairpin turns at twice the speed I can in the same car. Also, don't suddenly make my car impossible to control on the last lap just because I'm far ahead. I didn't have any problem controlling it before then, I shouldn't suddenly lose all ability to handle the car.

True, Twilight Princess is oringinally a GC game, but from what I understand, they've completely changed the control scheme for the Wii version, and there may even be some extras. Also, you can't argue that the graphics won't look better on the Wii, simply from a resolution standpoint. Let's also not forget that no matter what platform a Zelda game is on, it kicks ass (well, Wind Waker is debatable, but most people liked it well enough).

As for the rest of your comment... you completely discount the entire launch lineup of the Wii based on one title that might not have much innovation/pretty graphics/whatever because it was originally a GC game. That's like saying (to use the traditional car analogy) every Chevrolet sucks because they continued producing the Metro which was originally a Geo. Yes, horrible analogy, but you get my point. You can't base the quality of multiple products based on a single point of reference that, in itself, is questionable. I smell a Sony/Xbox fanboy.

This is very true. However, these will be the same people that get burned when the PS3 turns out to be a piece of crap (assuming here). They'll be the ones who get turned off on Sony because they just wasted $600+ on a brick. These are the people Sony is relying on, not us. If they alienate the people that will buy Sony because of the brand name, they're significantly reducing their customer base. At the very least, these people will learn to do some research into expensive products that they plan on buying in the future, and not just buy the Sony. There are better products to be had out there than Sony, and even if it takes a whole lot of people wasting $600+ on a brick, everyone will be better off. Hell, Sony might even start making quality products again instead of raping their customers.

Also, I don't know about most people, but I'd still rather have the physical media in my hand. I'm all for having the online store, but give me a choice of downloading it or having it shipped to me. I don't want to have all my games on a HDD just to have it crash or demagnetize years down the road and lose everything. Let's also consider the fact that some devs are complaining about disk space, that Blu Ray offers them the space they need. Is anyone really going to want to wait while they download a 30GB game (Yes, I know the argument about having it download the first bit of the game, and let you start playing while it downloads the rest)? I know I don't. Having it overnighted through the mail would be just as fast. Also, paying for the bandwidth for hundreds of thousands of people to download multiple 30GB games probably is not as cheap as one would think. If the next generation of consoles dumps the physical media, I'll be sitting that round out.

I think what the parent meant was that MS and Nintendo aren't banking the success of one product on the success of a another. The Wii doesn't need the DS to succeed, nor does the DS need the Wii. They can succeed on their own. Same with MS and Windows, though Office is tied pretty closely, but those are both already successes (let's not debate it, there's more of them out there than anything else). The PS3 needs Blu Ray to succeed in order for it to succeed (at least as a HD movie player). Sony also is using the PS3 to help Blu Ray succeed by providing a cheaper entry player. The success of each product is more than marginally dependant upon the other.
