    2. All countries should have electrical fences around them. Someone wishing to immigrate are allowed to attempt to climb this fence, but if they are electrocuted in the process then anyone passing by in the receiving country can help themselves to their clothes or anything in their pockets

    I can see Taco Bells being pretty rare except along the US/Mexican border

    3. We should build underwater nuclear reactors since all humans are on land

    And there won't be any fish left in 30 years anyway

    I can see people learning, very quickly, that traffic lights, stop/giveway signs etc are very necessary if you want to get anywhere (in a major city). I propose that all these traffic flow management techniques should be disabled for one day a year so that people are a little more patient courteous and grateful for the rest of the year.

    How about "Speak Like A Pirate Day" becoming "No Traffic Lights And Speak Like A Pirate Day"?

    I'd never thought to use the friend/foe feature of slashdot but now you mention it I think this is a good use. What has jeramybsmith got against Bev Harris anyway? I mean who sees one slightly bad, unsupported claim about someone who, at worst, is harmless (unless you work for Diebold, Sequoia et al) and decides they have to save the world from her 'evil propaganda'?

    I would hate to think "Linux has won" in the sense that it has become the only (Hobson's) choice of OS. If that were the case then anti-trust 2.0 should be against the evil penguin. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Linux become a universally accepted alternative to Windoze but I don't think it is healthy for ANY OS to become "all powerful", after all:

    I haven't had a virus/adware for >3 years and I do use P2P. I think using XP SP2 (if you have to use windoze)/Firefox/Thunderbird and not clicking on every attachment/download I get without checking:

    1. file extension,
    2. trusted source

    is the key.

    P.S I just noticed that 'Firefox' and 'Thunderbird' aren't in the FF2 English dictionary!

    Never mind, the solution is quite intuitive really, just highlight the 'misspelled' word, right click and select 'add to dictionary'. Sweet...

    The "machine readable" part should not need to contain anything more than a unique number (i.e. primary key) and perhaps a pki type hash to verify authenticity. The rest can be contained in a (hopefully) secure database using an international common format or schema. The id number could also be soley used as a passport serial number and not used for any finanical purposes.


    Precisely, you wouldn't even need to have a name or photo on the passport. That way if a passport was stolen the thief would not know who to imitate (or even what sex the passport is for). Of course this could present problems if the ID server (or your connection to it) went down or if you got the families passports mixed up.

    Agreed, basically software piracy is helping M$/Adob€ et al to retain their majority market share but they're so GREEDY they are complaining about it.

    It's like a crack dealer complaining about the terrible costs of giving away free samples!

    This theory doesn't sound so persuasive when it comes to media piracy though. After all, once an artist has an audience he/she has to *keep* making quality product to keep his audience.
