While I agree about cutscenes using the engine are a little more immersive, I'd still prefer to have Square's cutscenes, just because I find them very rewarding. A lot of care has been put into them, and probably cost considerably more time and effort to make them. But I think you underestimate Square's ability to make pre-rendered cutscenes, in-game engines are still pretty far off in terms of detail, if Advent Children or even Spirits Within is any indication.
On my Tool CD, 10000 days, it has these little plastic lenses that are very blurry, and make you look like Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys, but they make the artwork in the CD appear 3D. Not sure how, but its difficult to do, I can't remember how to do it anymore. But it doesn't involve red/green images.
Or, pick up a pair of 8800GT's for roughly the same price as AMD's X2, and more performance (most likely). This is assuming you have an SLI capable board. An X2 from nvidia is gonna cost an arm and a leg most likely..
I hope you aren't suggesting that someone's loss in the business world is worse off than living in extreme poverty or with a sickness that has no known cure?
It isn't a known fact that the money was obtained illegally. Immorality has nothing to do with this, either. I think the term you're looking for is "unfair". I'm not going to get into an argument about the legality of every single move that company makes, but I will say that your statement is a huge exageration.
I think you misunderstand. I'm not claiming that it should be all about the money, but it is an unfortunate fact that money runs the world, and it can make things better for the poor and the sick. What I'm trying to get at here, is not to praise or criticize, but just take comfort in the fact that someones life could be better because of this.
I'm not asking to overlook anything. I just think people should be thankful that there are even donations in the first place.
And I'm unaware of any situations in which MS squashed competition (who I was refering to as victims) as I don't really keep track of that kind of thing, but I wouldn't consider it criminal unless I knew the exact details.
When everyone criticizes Bill Gates for whatever reason, while he's donating money. WHO CARES?! He's donating money, stop bitching about what he's done in the past. It's not drug money, its not illegally obtained cash, its profit. However he obtained it, screwing others over, whatever, is pointless to rant about. Sure, I feel for his victims, but sorry, you got screwed, perhaps you should have done something differently. Even so, I'm not going to argue for or against Bill Gates for whatever he's done, I don't care if you know about Company X that got screwed over for reason Y.
The point is, stop bitching about things like "He's only donating because he's rich" or "He made the donee use MS software in exchange". Donations are gifts, they aren't mandatory if you're rich or poor. Either way, these organizations are receiving these gifts and thats all that really matters. You don't have to praise him for it, nobody is asking you to do that, but you shouldn't bitch about it either. Just be thankful these organizations have more money than they did before (assuming these organizations are worthwhile).
And seriously, why is it such a big deal that in exchange for a donation, he is asking an organization to use their software (I'm assuming he is donating that as well, or donations > cost to switch to MS software)? It is, in a sense, paying someone to use your software. It speaks a little bit for your software but in the end, the have (arguably) useable software and more money than they had before. Do these organizations complain about things like this? Certainly not as much as slashdotters apparently. In the end, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth".
Exactly. I would rather install third party apps to do those things instead because thats how piss poor Vista is, currently. I own Vista business, and it offers nothing useful that XP doesn't already have.
Hell, I'd be tired to by spouting about indexing, integrated search and visual extensions.. While I don't agree with everything the OP posted, your statements are also unconvincing. Sounds like YOU just copied and pasted from MS's advertisements.
Those reasons you gave alone make it more interesting, IMO. But aside from those, I think mercury is the least interesting, from what I can recall about it.. but I guess it might be the easiest to reach rather than something like jupiter's/saturn's satellites.
First time I heard about sending a probe to mercury.. I would have thought that would be the least interesting of the planets round these parts. With operations as expensive as these, wouldn't they want to focus their resources on Mars or something?
True, and I guess VCRs and tape decks aren't really made with longevity in mind (instead, use cheap parts to sell to the consumer for lower prices), and could cause some of these problems with VHS or cassette, whereas the entire purpose of a tape drive is to backup information, and longevity is the main factor in a purchase..
Never heard it referred to as Junior High around here, just elementary school (mainly because most schools in my area are grades 1-8). Also in Ontario.
Really? I would have thought that magnetic tapes were more prone to damage/errors. I have no experience with them, but I guess I automatically related them to VHS tapes or cassettes, both of which show signs of noise after being used X amount of times. That and the fact that a magnet next to it can really screw it up. Then again, same goes for HDD...
I had no idea they run 48 hours shifts. But I guess they do have some time to rest while being refueled. This sounds more likely to happen during a time of war though, I have trouble seeing the benefit of keeping a pilot in the air for 2 days straight. Do they not have enough pilots to keep a certain amount up in the air or something? I really am naive about those kinds of things haha. Also, I live in Canada, so I really know nothing about your military.
Oh, I had no idea. I guess its just happens to be convenient enough to let your muscles rest while you sleep, a "welcome side effect" if you will. I think its exact function is to keep us from going crazy, we all need to stop thinking at some point in time.
How can this replace sleep? Muscles need to rest, too. I guess it would be useful for us that need to sleep with one eye open. A drug for the paranoid.
Yeah I guess it depends on the product. I have a PS3 myself, and I was thinking of buying one of their TV's, they've always been highly rated. I avoid buying music produced by them however. Pretty much any studio that RIAA represents, though.
Doesn't that seem a little like, umm, overreacting to you? Over one customer service incident? Some of Sony's products are actually pretty good, albeit expensive. I would be livid after an encounter like that but I can guarantee you'll find those types at any large business. You just happened to have the bad luck of dealing with them.. perhaps you should have asked for the supervisor's supervisor, haha.
Wow. Congratulations, you might be the 2nd biggest douche bag in the universe. Thanks for being mature in your reply.
GPU multitasking is completely different compared to CPU multitasking as with hardware acceleration you really only need to focus on one app at a time. CPU multitasking doesn't require that as it has little to do with visual output.
Ok, new driver model, big fucking deal. It amounts to nothing. Why? Because you're spouting off reasons why it can't be ported from Vista to XP. It was never about that, I'm arguing that it could have been done for XP from the beginning. So now, instead of having DX10 shader support in XP, everyone has to buy a new copy of vista because 0.0001% of the Windows install base need GPU multitasking. Sorry, WANT gpu multitasking. Awesome.
If you want GPU multi-tasking, use linux. Its free!
I can understand how it would be useful. But not useful enough to force anyone who wants to use DX10 shaders to switch to vista. Its just another bullshit excuse for a waste of 5 years.
"the best browser, period" was a quote from Mozilla's dev blog.
Bar? What are you talking about, and whats wrong with it? I haven't installed the beta, but I also don't see anything in screenshots.
Last I checked, there were just over a million pledges, far off from the 5 million they were shooting for..

And here, ladies and gentleman, is an excellent use of AC. Avoid death by wife! Although now you've ruled out any possibility of a threesome.

I think they're staying true to the original Duke3D. Which, to be honest, I would prefer. Its like a trip back in the past, but prettier.
Makes you wonder what they were doing those 5 years..
