Here here! I am not religious but when I was younger and did go to church with my parents, the church always supported that very view point. Evolution, physics, they're all just God's way of doing things.
I don't think it would really be very interesting to watch. Any network aware virus would instantly spread to all the machines. Maybe if they were only communicating using smtp/pop it would be more interesting
The reason for belly button lint is clear. Look at the hairs around your belly button; the ones closest to it all point down and in to your belly button. The lint ratchets down the hairs into your belly button, powered by your own movement.
I was under the impression that the limiting factor for Von Neumann machines was matter, not energy. I remember reading these nanomachines being powered by the sun, or being so efficient that competing with 'real' life wouldn't be an issue.
Competing algae? Eat it.

I think you meant: 1) Post a link to some (harmless) page 2) Owner of that page changes it to something the Chinese government considers non-harmless 3) You get arrested 4) ????? 5) Profit!
You assume we haven't already tried.
I've spent time at the board meetings. Like I said, the district won't let students touch them.
Only IT guys are allowed to even move the computers around.
We have about 60 HP Vectras sitting in a closet at my school.
They're being used for nothing, and the school district refuses to let them go. So they're going to have to be thrown away.
I know any number of people that would like to pick one up to play with, whether to use it as a spare Linux box, or simply to take apart and salvage parts out of.
But the district can't get out of it's own way to put them to use, so they're probably going to sit in that closet until someone can take them to the dump.
I think the really interesting part of this research is not what they say they are doing with it now--it's what could potentially come of this.
I don't know what it might be useful for, but knowing that can we now do this might help us in some other area at some other point in time.
You're overlooking that it costs someone time to clean these things up.
Sure, 5-10 years might be a/lot/, but the IT guy that has to go fix the page costs money.
There is revenue lost because there store wasn't available.
etc. etc.
Unfortunately merely meaning to do good isn't enough if you don't understand the root of the problem.
This isn't going to deter people who are doing DoS attacks anyways. Usually they're using DDoS, through hijacked computers...
This is pointless. But good for them for taking an interest.
People laugh at me, but my only carry on item is a chute. I'll be the first one out of that hatch if we're going down.
Thank you, that does make a lot of sense. I vote we replace car analogies with submarine analogies.
This reminds me of strapping a piece of buttered toast butter side up to the back of a cat.
That's why I switched my major to Computer Engineeering.
Look at the average person that enrolls in the Army. It's probably not their first choice, and they're there because they have nowhere else.
IANAB but it seems unlikely that all of these internal things would be changing while the outside stays practically identical. Someone correct me!

On a related note: http://www.vondanmcintyre.com/squids/Baxter-Sheena5.html A nice scifi story for every /. story.
My university uses AFS to achieve these more complex access rules. It is very easy to use and understand.

Key word 'known'. Also maybe that 1% provides essential aminos they have a hard time finding elsewhere.

Good luck, Fox!

But it seems like the users of the ball park are going to need a lot of specialized gear to fully utilize the park... Will it degrade gracefully?

I wish the TI had an RPN mode. I miss the stack, it was so much fun.
