  1. Re:Cue increase in accidents on Gubernatorial Candidate Wants to Sell Speeding Passes for $25 · · Score: 1

Except that 25 or 90, hitting that animal is going to have the same effect. You are going to have an accident. You are going to damage your car and possible take injury. You may even die. Anything faster than 0 mph carries that risk. Arguing that 90 is worse than 55 is ridiculous. You've already accepted the risk by getting into the car (or should have at least realized the risk).

The pedestrian has it even worse. If a kid jumps in front of my car at 25 mph, he is going to be just as dead as if I were going 55 mph. Cars aren't very cushioned on the outside. Yes, there is a small possibility that he may only be injured, but does that possibility really vary, depending on my speed?

Having the retailers tracking us, tailoring their products to our interests, it is part of our dream. We want robots to fetch us beer from the fridge and chairs that adjust to our bodies. How is retailers only showing stuff we're interested in any different? The chances of me clicking on an ad for tampons is vanishingly low, so why waste my time and their money to show me a tampon ad? Heck, I'd love for bricks-and-mortar stores to work like this. It seems like every time I go to buy new clothes, I have to walk through a mile of women's clothes. Do they really buy that much more clothing?

I admit, the tracking sometimes can be a disadvantage. I looked at some socks online, about a week ago, and that is all my ads are since. All showing different types of socks.

So the killings were justified? We got what we deserved? Did Al-Qaeda really believed that, if they blew a couple of buildings, we'd just pack up and go home? Could they have been that blind? That line of reasoning makes no sense. When you punch a bully in the face, he doesn't back off, he doesn't get even. He makes you into an example. What happened when the buildings were blown up? Did the United States government sit back and go "Wow, people really hate us for meddling. Maybe we should back off?" No. We invaded two countries with only the slightest of pretext. And hey, you thought we were overbearing then? Come visit us now, when we treat any foreign visitor with a xenophobia that only an Alien from a Cameron movie deserves. Yep, 9/11 really put us in our place. It really made us more considerate of how other countries feel.

Okay. You argue that this drug will make the third world our personal organ bank. After that happens, why would we send aid that might cut off our precious, precious supply of organs? The argument is silly, because organ recipients and those that do charity are not groups that overlap significantly. Why should one affect the other?

There is already an organ market. It is illegal almost everywhere, but it still exists. This has not caused us to stop sending aid to places that need it.

Talking about moral implications is boring. It is always the same. Yes, evil will do evil. Bad people will always treat the less fortunate as commodities. How is that new or different?

Or maybe you are putting the cart before the horse. Perhaps people with a desire to rape children seek out child porn before escalating to worse things. Like how serial killers are supposed to start killing with animals. That is probably a bad example. I have heard the argument that porn, in general, creates rapists. Most rapists have porn, therefore porn creates a desire for rape.
