What if there is a rogue OpenID provider? What if someone sets up their own OpenID system to leave fake authenticated comments on a blog? I wonder why the OpenID project has not considered this.
Tailgating is really dangerous. In a state where tailgating is rampant (PA), I am all for the enforcement of laws to curb tailgating. Alongside of this, there needs to be enforcement of laws relating to driving too slowly in the left hand lane or beneath the speed limit. Driving too slowly also makes for a road hazard. That said, after age 65, there should be manadatory bi-annual driver testing. This would give the law some power over irresponsible senior citizens. When it is time for me to give up my car, I shall do so without complaint. Speaking of which, I was caught behind one today going 10 mph underneath the speed limit and refused to yield to a flashing of the lights.
What do you want me to do, clap? I'd say ALL sysadmins are heros because they need to put up with a stupid userbase and inept managers that see their bottom line only.
Check this one out: http://www.ibx4you.com./ I am employed at a company that does not pay benefits and I pay 122.00 per month and get 25.00 co-pays. Hospitalization is 100.00 per day to a maximum of 500.00. This is for an individual. I am not too certain about families but this coverage was better than the one I was getting from a previous employer.
Let Linux die, it is kludge anyway. There are still the BSDs and now, Solaris. NEWS FLASH: Solaris is UNIX as defined by The Open Group. I personally love FreeBSD and Solaris. They are superior in just about everyway. Let the flame wars begin . . . .
I studied Criminal Justice in college and the officers may be in the wrong, although it is very difficult to tell from the video itself. I think the director of the University Police was smart by calling for an independent investigation. It shows that he is committed to fairness for all parties. The student used profanity towards the officers. This, in most states, constitutes disorderly conduct . . . a mere summary offense (like a parking ticket). Did his response warrant a taser reaction? While the video does not show the student was not compliant, the video also does not show that the student was cooperative. This is the kind of situation where being a police officer is a thankless job. While certainly chilling, we cannot really draw any conclusions from the video alone. What was the student doing while lying down? Was he grabbing for the officers guns or at their bodies?
On that note, random ID searches create a major problem and I do not think this is constitutional. You have a right to refuse to show ID (unless in a motor vehicle.) The above situation may be complicated by the fact that this might have been a false arrest. If the actor (the student) had calmly and reasonably asked what he was being charged with and why he was being ID'd and me with resistance from the police, we have a false arrest situation. Instead he used profanity and the accompanying language and gestures may have lead police to believe him to be dangerous.
Why not consider the BSD license? I am not a fan of the GPL and I think it is a bit restrictive. The BSD license appeals to both the F/LOSS and for profit companies. I am surprised Johnathan Schwartz failed to consider the BSD license.
Brings back bad memories of the dot com era. Personally, I am sick of adverrtisements and would stick to my paid cell phone now. We are bombarded by ads now in everyday life to the point of nausea.
Richard Stallman's radicalism will be his undoing. This means great things for the BSD camp. Anyhow, the BSDs are superior to Linux in every way, shape, and form.
Wow, dude! Keep up the hard work. I also have a dissability diagnosed NLD and I **know** how difficult it can be. Hell, I work in IT and I have yet to even keep a relationship for more than 4 mos. Initially, she is enamored with me than grows bored and I get the shit end of the stick. Keep it up!
While this article is dead on as far as politics are concerned, Americans are somewhat to blame for our own predicament. The problem is one of both politicians and citizens. We want our prices so ridiculously low that if many of our goods are manufactured here, companies would be unable to turn a profit. Let's look at an example, Walmart; everyone's favorite target. Walmart, being either the nation's largest or second largest retail store chain (depending upon its current market position,) has exerted tremendous economic pressure on offshoring by feeding the American appetite for goods at the lowest common denominator. Many companies seeking to sell goods through Walmart must offshore their operation in order to meet Walmart's pricing demands. Now, let's look at an example for the technology industry, Dell. Dell must offshore its technical support operations in order to prevent loss. The PC and server industry is so competitive due to pricing pressure exerted by consumers that Dell would have no hope of staying financially solvent if the company did not offshore at least a portion of its operations.
Despite much causation attributed to consumer pricing pressure, politicians do have their share of the blame in the form of incentives to kill off American jobs. This is unconcionable; no matter which angle one approaches the issue from. There should be no corporate tax breaks or incentives for offshoring at all! Believe you me, why should a corporation get additional benefits when it is already realising a higher profit margin as a result of offshoring?
Finally, and this author hates to say this, but we as Americans are greedy and this is no more evident then in our consumption and spending habits. In order to bring back American manufacturing and technology sector jobs, a major attitude shift would need to occur and this author does not foresee this as happening. Meyer Lansky (despite being a horrible individual) had one saying that holds true, especially for these times, "The fish stinks from the head." When our country's leadership is the embodiment of greed and utter stupidity, change will not happen because attitudes trickle down from leadership. As long as we have incompetent, greed-ridden leadership, Americans will continue to suffer.
This is just another example of how ridiculous our legal system has become. This is entirely without merit. The 16 year old showed real signs of psychopathy or other organic disease. How can a game teach someone to shoot? Shooting in real life is far different. I hope the makers of GTA will defend this vigorously because it is a game. You want to blame someone . . . . look at the boy's parents as role models. If I were to let my son play such a game, I would be careful to explain the nature of the game and its implications in real life. There is one very real danger which is de-conditioning the natural human aversity towards killing. This is the exact reason that education must play a role alongside of playing the video game. I play GTA all the time as a stress reliever but I know that I would never do this in real life.
Cheating has a rather simple definition; it has nothing to do with university politics or hypocracy. Cheating is using someone else's work without giving them their due credit in the form of proper quotation and reference citation.
"the idea of 'cheating' will go away, because no one will care what some big, lumbering organization (the university) judges about what you've learned. people might actually be able to go learn what they want from free public resources instead of being trapped in painfully boring situations to get a degree - where they are so unmotivated they cut and paste text from web pages." (drDugan)
The above statement is not true nor will it ever be. How can a student learn if he or she simply "cuts and pastes" text? Cheating, by its very nature, is the antithesis of learning. In the course of careful research, one is forced to paraphrase ideas and use them to bolster the intended argument. In order for this to work with cohesion, the student must have an understanding of the material and how to use it. If one does not do this, they have arguably learned nothing; save how to cheat. If a student is "bored and unmotivated," perhaps he or she should consider a program that would be more to their liking. This engenders a philosophical look at reasons for attending college. If one only goes to college because they see dollar signs in the more distant future, they miss the riches just in front of them. By attending college, this author was not monetarily helped at all. In fact, this author attends graduate school knowing full well it will not necessarily mean more money. This author is attending graduate school because he ascribes to a basic philosophy:
"Never stop learning, never stop being challenged. Once one stops learning, he slowly begins his decay."

gee, I thought we were bigger than this racist shit. Hmmm, apparently not. Although, the scientologists do have to go.

This a victory for open source! Looks like M$ might finally be the victim of its own greed.

The Chinese should be ones to talk. They are usually far from perfect!
