Edward Snowden blew the whistle on a serious abuse by government. I believe Edward Snowden is a hero for it. Government should not be spying on people. People should not fear their government, their government should fear them.
I might be the only one cheering this on but America's financial institutions had this coming. Payback for fucking over the 99%. Ain't karma a fickle whore?
I don't think the danger is immediate but it definitely is on the horizon. Soon, human beings will be the first living organism to cause self-obsolescence. Human beings will make themselves redundant.
Gawker is more an indictment of American culture. Yes, they do underhanded things and their reporting is abysmal at best, but they earn money because controversy and dirty rumors seem to captivate Americans. If Americans weren't so fascinated with scandal, controversy, and rumor, then Gawker wouldn't exist. Gawker exists because there is a large market for it.
It's absolutely crippling! I know exactly where you are coming from. I walked out of Corporate America and I was a Windows Systems Engineer. It is absolutely an exploitive environment! I About a week after resigning from my last IT job, I went to truck driving school and never looked back. I drive locally and while I don't love the job, I don't hate it either. At least I don't have to work in an office for a PHB
The ex-Disney IT workers are foolishly backing the wrong horse. Donald Trump does not hesitate to outsource and does so with his own clothing line which is manufactured in Mexico. Donald Trump is only saying what these ex-Disney IT workers want to hear so that he can get support in the primaries. Has it even occurred to these ex-Disney employees that Trump is being disingenuous? Simply because someone tells you something that you want to hear, does not mean that their motives are pure.
As the subject reads, I'm in total agreement with Mr. Olson. Mandatory backdoors in encryption systems lead to no good endings. I would sooner not sacrifice my privacy to catch the relative few who abuse encryption.
Unfortunately, no it isn't illegal. I worked at a company once that did this all of the time. It came through email in a company bulletin so I just created an Outlook rule for these emails to go to junk. The way I see it, I'm not going to read propaganda that looks and reads eerily similarly to what the Chinese Communist Party churns out. I don't want to align my personal agenda with that of my employer's because the net benefit is to my employer and not to me. I don't want to help my employer to manipulate the legal system in their favor.
The years I spent becoming a Systems Engineer were a waste when each time I found a new job, it would only be stable for about a year or two until I was training my H1-B visa replacement. Finally, I left it altogether for a career in truck/bus driving where the average time spent unemployed is around 4 hours. I make almost 65,000 a year which is what I was paid at my last IT job (which was a demotion.)
If you ask me, the problem is the entire H1-B Visa program. College-bound kids ask me if they should go into a career in IT and I give them the real downsides. I tell them to learn a trade. If I had had a crystal ball, I NEVER would have gone into IT - I would have learned a trade.
Certainly, driving a truck can be a bit mind numbing at times so I'm learning to code in C and C++ on my own time to keep my mind engaged. Computers and networks are so much more fun when you can hack.
If there is a demand for more skilled workers, then why are companies replacing existing skilled labor with foreign workers on the H1-B visa program? The CTO of Jackthreads makes no sense whatsoever. The H1-B visa program is all about trying to save corporations money at the expense of domestic skilled workers. The argument about a lack of skilled programmers is baloney.
If Jeremy Stoppleman had any shred of humanity he would have prevented this and, at least, addressed the letter. But these days, any threat to the wealthy or establishment is quickly and quietly quashed.
Comes as a surprise to me. In my area I have a choice (if you want to call it one) between Verizon FiOS and Comcast Xfinity. Obviously FiOS is the lesser of the evils but it still sucks balls too.
I run OpenBSD and was unaffected.
Apple is really just chicken shit. They should've sued the FBI
I happened to love the porntipsguzzardo Easter Egg in SimCity!
Here's to hoping those bastions of evil go extinct!
Fake IDs can be used to purchase prepaid mobile devices.

They still need to buy components and these components could be security compromised.

I've heard horror stories about Wipro. Maybe Abbott will get itself in real trouble as a result of this decision. That would be about mot juste.
It would seem that Staminus did not have the 'stamina' to live up to it's own marketing campaign. Happily some hackers exposed the truth.
It will probably perform a helluva lot better on Linux. Even more interesting is Microsoft's shifting stance on open source.

HAHAHA! If I could read and write in Chinese, I'd be a wealthy SOB. Seriously though, I have read the English translations.

I could not have said it better myself!

Well, it also shows that the open door policy at most companies is just HR bullshit.
So much for an open door policy at Yelp. If there is such a policy at Yelp, it probably pays lip service to politically correct HR.
