  1. Improve environmental impact of old cars on U.S. Passenger Vehicle Fleet Dirtier After 2008 Recession · · Score: -1

I know it is probably not as sexy or may not make as much money for the auto industry but why not provide parts and services that are capable of improving the efficiency and reducing the amount of pollutants expelled by older vehicles? This would help consumers by lowering costs and the environment by lowering emissions but it would likely lower the amount of money going to the auto industry.

I have a theory about why my body produces insane amounts of gas even in the absence of beans, raw veggies, and other fibrous foods.... I'm calling it "dark gas" and it is the only reason my body could be producing such excessive amounts of gas in the absence of typical gas causing agents.

  9. Misleading article... on Wal-Mart Enters the Used Game Fray · · Score: 1

Wal-Mart is not in the used game business, the company making the machines is in the used game business. The machines are in the entrances and Wal-Mart leases space to the company just like with Redbox. I have seen a machine and it has Wal-Mart branding on it, but it is owned by e-Play. I didn't RTFA, only the title, so please don't scream at me if it mentions that in the article. :)

  10. Acer Extensa 5420 on Acer Bets Big On Linux · · Score: 2, Interesting

I bought a $550 Acer Extensa 5420 at Best Buy a few months ago. It came with a soft-load of Vista. I wiped that and loaded PCLinuxOS-2007. Most everything works fine including the web-cam. The only trouble I have now is getting sound from the headphone jack, and using the built in microphone. The mic jack works fine, and the built-in speakers work fine. Two quirks that are easy for me to overlook given all the benefits. It appears that Acer hardware tends to be mostly Linux compatible when new for whatever reason. I know that in the past I have had issues with Dell and Linux when the Dell is less than 1 year old.

  15. Re:Why not use home PCs? on Computers May Thwart 2010 Census · · Score: 1

Every public library has free internet service. We could also put registration systems on all the public transportation systems. Make census registration mandatory when you assess your personal property. If you do not have personal property then you likely ride public transportation. Anyone who is an adult, does not pay personal property tax, and who does not use a form of public transportation at least one time in the whole year is probably staying at a homeless shelter, so we should only have to send door to door people to all the shelters.

  18. Re:Has he put his money where his mouth is? on Trent Reznor Says "Steal My Music" · · Score: 0

I am glad he is rich, he has made some really good music, so I do not know why you would ask the artist to put his money where is mouth is. I would also say that Trent is just a few steps away from cutting the middleman out entirely from the music making process. For Year Zero, he made available through torrents half the album in layered tracks. This was to encourage people to come up with their own remixes of his music. He also purposely leaked many of the songs from his album over the internet and leaving songs on USB disks in bathroom stalls at his concerts as a marketing ploy. The entire album was also free to listen to on the NIN website. He is doing things that few in his position would even dare to do. Some of the things he is doing is reminiscent of independent artists who have yet to make it big and do not have a bunch of suits dictating their music.

  21. Changes in the American definition of morals on Privacy and the "Nothing To Hide" Argument · · Score: 0

I would bet that privacy was a concern in years past, because people did not want others all up in their k00l-a1d if they did not even know the flavor. Now, many people could care less if you know about their extra-marital affairs, dishonest practices, that they like p0rn, etc. Morals, or at least keeping up appearances was at one time important. Maybe my line of thought is a little extreme here, but I am not sure if past Americans were concerned if the FBI knew how much money was in their bank account, but they did care if their neighbor knew how little they gave to the church each week. Privacy concerns stemmed from social status not "big brother". Any thoughts on this?

  22. why must they be so advanced? on Deathbed Confession Says Aliens Were at Roswell · · Score: 0

Why should the aliens be so advanced? The United States has the ability right now to build an egg, put frozen bodies inside, and send them to a planet light years away for a crash landing. Suppose those aliens were dead, and they wanted their burial ceremony to include being frozen and shot in an egg to another planet believed to be harboring intelligent life, just to say "you are not alone Earthlings". I would go for something like that; it would be a hell of a lot more original than being put in the ground. This is really not far fetched at all, we sent rovers to mars and they have been roaming around the Martian surface, I think it would be possibly easier to crash land an egg on a much more distant planet.

Also, space exploration has its far share of casualties. Everyone is making fun of aliens not capable of landing their egg on a planet they have never been too, but we have had a few of our shuttles go up in flames in our own atmosphere; now who looks like a bunch of morons there? That's right, we do.
