I agree wholeheartedly with you. Music tastes are very personal, each person has what they like and don't like. It doesn't make one band better than another.
Personally I respect U2 for basically doing what they want to do to expand their style rather than pandering completely to what is considered flash in the pan (never saw a grunge record from them). Although I don't like Pop or Discotheque, I like everything else they have done (even their newest album) but I don't try to make other people see them as I do.
The Large, corporate, lawyer controlled businesses probably have corporate licensing if they are smart and chances are they blow away the OS that comes with the computer and ghosts from a preconfigured image.
But does this mean that I can remain on-topic with the following reply, however?
I Soviet Russia, Oatmeal likes to eat YOU!
Man get with the times. It's the Ukraine now, Ukraine and the Soviet Union split up a couple years ago. Not sure who won in the divorce. Oh yeah I remember now, the lawyers.
Which is 99% of them. What's the deal with the spandex with all the advertising on it? I see 65 year old dudes outfitted like they're doing the Tour de France.:) 1 word chafing. Spandex reduces the amount of it from happening. I also find it is true when running especially over 10K. More offtopic, I find it funny how people make fun of cyclists wearing their favourite sponsored cycling team gear when out biking. But when Joe Sixpack with his beer gut wears a hockey jersey "he is their number one fan".
Back on the somewhat offtopic posting. I cycle and I admit it is tempting to break the rules (i.e. run red lights, stop signs) but I know that a: it's wrong and b: if I misjudge, I will be the one regretting it (if I live through it) while Jane SUV will be getting the blood washed off and scratches buffed out of her bumper after the fact.

Ok, it might be a bit naive, but for god's sake, this is an association of record labels. How come they have the right to decide about having a levy on cd's or not? Something went horribly wrong here...
Personally I am glad they did the levy. Makes me happy as I can download to my heart's content. Now if I was someone who used CDs or DVDs for pure backup purposes then yeah I could see how that sucks.
I am the same. I like the extras especially if there was some technical feat they took. However I have noticed that it seems that Blockbuster is starting to carry movies without the special features on the single DVD. I rented King Kong and it came with two DVDs one english and one French (makes sense for the extras to be on a second DVD but I think they probably could have fit the French soundtrack on the one DVD for a little more compression) and there were no extras. However if you bought it the second DVD had the extras.
So it seems like they are trying to minimize rentals to only the movies and you have to buy them for the extras.
Problem is (well here in Ottawa Canada) that cops have too much to do rather than worry about enforcing traffic laws with cyclists.
I hate the ones who give cyclists bad names. The funniest thing is seeing parents making their kids wear helmets but they don't or it is hanging from the handle bar.
Its your fault that company got fined 750k, if you were responsible for that network.
its your fault it took 2 months to diagnose a bandwidth problem & by the sound of it, it could happen again.
Well it isn't really his fault it's his bosses fault in either one of two ways: 1. For not sticking up for him when he told his boss how to secure the network to ensure they wouldn't get fined when they got audited. (I had this occur to me when I worked an IP law firm who had 4 workstation licenses and 60 workstations) 2. For hiring someone who didn't come up with a better plan on how to ensure they wouldn't get fined when they got audited.
Unless you are creating file shares on the machine itself going with NTFS is moot. Assuming the user gets physical access to the machine and yanks the drive, it doesn't matter if you are running Fat32 or NTFS. NTFS permissions are trivial, unless you are using EFS encryption in XP, but then you could always use PGP or Truecrypt or any other 3rd party encryption.
If they estimate that the laptop will cost just 50 in 2010 (down from 130 now), you can expect them to be dollars by 2015 and pennies by 2020. This is effective than drugs becuase you cant take knowledge away.
More likely by that point it will still be $100 (more likely 60-70). Found any good deals on a 386 chip lately?
3 reasons I wanted an iPod: 1. Didn't like the interface for any of the other mp3 players 2. I wanted to be able to fit all of my mp3s on my ipod for backup purposes and all the other large sized mp3 players felt cheap and looked to be knockoffs of the ipod(plus see #1). 3. Firewire compatability. I have firewire on my motherboard why not use it for something (ok this is a plus not a necessity) 4. I also have a Rio Cali which I use when out on a run which is explorer based for transfering. But there is one wicked thing about Itunes that converted me over. Smart Playlists, the ability to create playlists based on specific attributes (for me it is usually stars as there is music my wife likes but I don't)
I can definitely I am sure there are people who bought the ipod for the marketing Apple has done on it but I wanted an mp3 player since the PMP300 came out. So in my case it isn't awareness of other models.
If you're such a fan of compulsory employment, take a look at how that's working out for the French. Funny how you say that when Alcatel is French. (mind you I don't necessarily disagree with what you are saying) Now let's do something about this housing bubble, I want to buy a house...
Decide on a surviving product (based on market share, technology, costs, future potential and other reasons), decide on a product map which highlights the life of the disapearing products and migration paths, and finaly, brace for impact
Talking to people I used to work with at Newbridge before Alcatel bought them out, Lucent should expect practically everything to be shelved, anything that is good will be moved over to Alcatel's existing workers and layoffs for the Lucent types.
Sounds like Alcatel is 1 small step from shutting down what was Newbridge's main HQ.
Surprisingly there is some relevance with the "Designed for" stickers. Any application that is developed that does not leverage the Registry properly i.e.utilize all user specific settings in HKEY_Current_User and Machine specific in HKEY_Local_Machine would not pass.
Mind you it is a bit of a cash grab but I have found software that has the sticker has a tendency to run better in windows.
Already we are hearing rumblings about how P2P traffic can be easily identified and QOSed as desired.
Yep Rogers set it up and even admit it. Traffic was horrid during beginning of December. After I found out about uTorrent in Late December, there have been points where I have downloaded 400M under 10 minutes. This shows though how quickly response to checks can be done.
I wonder how far off we are from the day when pirated content, the sender, and receiver are identified in nanoseconds and calls routed to the appropriate local law enforcement agencies?
All depends on whether the method they determine who the interested parties are and if it becomes the fruit from the poisoned tree. Granted only law enforcement need warrants though.
Which not only has a LOT of HDTV owners up in arms because our sets are going to be completely useless, but does in a way close the analog hole in the HDTV world.
That is one of the risks people have taken buying a bleeding edge TV before Blu-Ray and HD-DVD came out. But I heard (I believe on here) that Component video will be available for one if not both formats.
Screw that, my monkey is hairy for a reason. But seriously folks, any company that discriminates based on the length of your hair, you probably don't want to work for anyway. Most IT guys don't get a lot of face time with customers let alone users, so having long hair and/or a beard isn't relevant. Now, if you could prove that you were a member of some wacky religion that requires long hair, you could have a discrimination suit (ka-ching) on your hands.
Different situation though. The first place was him dealing with the customers on a regular basis. When he moved to the firm he was no longer needing the pretty look. First impressions are everything. It is safer to play the "suit and tie" with the client as they may be old school and believe that looking "clean" is a sign of respect. Sad but true.
The problem was that the OSD which runs Saddam's protection was also tasked in hiding things from UNSCOM. When you start investigating him, you also get more involved with Saddam directly. It is true that the CIA was involved with UNSCOM but the UN requested use of a U2 spy plane due to Iraq being less than compliant with allowing UNSCOM access. Of course the CIA took advantage of it to glean information that they wanted.
The downfall though of UNSCOM was that as the UN wasn't getting information from the CIA, Scott Ritter (formerly a US Marine Intelligence Officer and was an observer in the USSR for disarmament) who was more or less the guy in charge (and not exactly very diplomatic) in Iraq approached the Israelies for assistance deciphering what they were seeing in some of the photos. This caused some disgruntled govt types in the US. So when they needed backing at one point from the UN, there wasn't any.
Right after that, Iraq claimed the American portion of UNSCOM was spying and kicked out all Americans. Shortly after UNSCOM pulled out the rest. Ritter resigned.
Just watched Spying on Saddam on PBS last weekend which was originally aired in 1999 Quite interesting.

Well maybe for who your girlfriend was.
That's 300K+ Canadian
Don't be so critical, 300K(Cdn) = 261K(US)
and it is getting closer.
tonight, a very special episode of seventh heaven guest starring that silly Star Wars kid
..
Pathetic plots and bad writing
Sounds like a good show suitable of his acting talents.

I never said it was right just that there was a point to the sticker unlike the Intel Inside which was pure marketing.
You make a good point but give credit where credit is due. At least they are admitting that sometimes, the simplest way may be the best way.
