The year it was released, I actually did a 6-month co-op with IBM. I even got to go to COMDEX in Las Vegas that year. During the keynote (by Bill Gates) all of the IBMers were wearing shirts that said "OS2/Warp - Up and running, not up and coming". I still have that shirt (probably one of the oldest shirts I own and still occasionally wear).
But they haven't figured out how to track the viewers and charge the advertisers for that.......it's sort of the same problem that a lot of internet content has. Pay per impression is the model that they understand and when you can't easily track impressions, it's hard to turn that into a business model.
Iâ(TM)ve been trying to champion a series called Star Trek: Ferengi Traders. Think something like Trade Wars (old BBS game) where Quark et al are constantly dealing with shady people in order to get the most latinum for their product. I think thereâ(TM)s huge possibilities here. You get the exploration aspect. Thereâ(TM)s intrigue. The occasional space battle.
I know, I know â"- this could have just as easily been Firefly, but believe it or not, I had the concept in my head before I ever knew what Firefly was.
While you're playing COD, rendered right on top of the guy you're trying to kill is a notification because your mom wants you to send her another Candy Crush ticket. And because of that --- BOOM, headshot.....only you're the recipient, not the giver.
If they used it like a headline, it would be fine. But they don't. They use it as the location for the beginning of their first sentence.
Subject: Anonymous Cowards don't know how to Body: use the Internet.
Newspapers don't write their articles that way......they write them like this --
Subject: Anonymous Cowards don't know how to do this.... Body: Anonymous Cowards are apparently clueless Trolls because they don't know how to use the Internet. They think that Subjects are where you start the first sentence of your article and then you just continue the sentence in the body as if that is just an inconvenience to spewing their diatribe.
See.....a real Subject (akin to a headline) that conveys an idea of what the body will discuss but it's followed by a full concept that can also stand alone if the subject is hard to read (for instance on a site like Slashdot where it gets lost in the green bar).
* And for the love of fuck, please all stop starting posts in the Subject line..
I never understood why people do that. It's the equivalent of having the first line of your letter be on the outside of the envelope.....or the first line of your e-mail be in the subject line......
Oh wait --- car analogy required..... It's like having the ignition switch located on the hood of your car.
Also, contractors should expect to be paid more from their client than an equivalent salaried employee........specifically to offset the price of benefits (and taxes and whatever else) that aren't being taken care of. If they don't negotiate a good rate to cover these expenses, then that's on them. If they go through a contracting firm, that firm should be covering those same benefits for them or not taking a significant cut beyond a placement fee.
Why not just get a coffee maker......if you want coffee, include the grounds. If you want water, don't. Or you know......just nuke the cup of water in the microwave like everyone else.
Ok, in order for me to fix your problem, you'll have to give me all of the admin passwords. It's required for all of the low level commands I need to issue and the traditional break-glass procedures will just get in my way.
Is the ad tied to a live tile for the store? Most app stores showcase apps in their store app and Live Tiles show updated info......so I would suspect that these "ads" are really just the store live tile showing the content. [I haven't read the article and I'm not running the update.]
Could this not be explained by multiple objects orbiting at various distances and eccentricities? Like possibly some objects that formed during star formation and some captured objects?
** - Long list of disclaimers indicating I'm by no means anyone who would be considered an expert on this subject (I didn't even bother to read the article).
If JPEG finally implemented DRM, then more people would switch. PNG is superior if only for the extra features. There are instances where JPG compresses better and instances where PNG compresses better, so I won't claim either wins on that account.....but lossless vs lossy and alpha channel support is nice. I'd also like to see the animation extension more consistently adopted (to supplant GIF). I'm not sure why it hasn't caught on more than it has.
It's actually possible to self host a corporate app store. The apps expire once per year, but it's a lot less restrictive. I've worked on a self-updating iOS app for a client that they self host for their internal workers. Even though the app self updates, they still have to uninstall version-N and install version-N+1 each new calendar year.
The $3k is for a devkit. I'm pretty sure that's a number that is high enough to thwart the problem of too many people ordering it and only serious inquiries for now. The consumer hardware will probably be a lot cheaper.
If I want to share the code, I'll use one of the public repos. If I don't want to share the code, that includes sharing via a server I don't control. I still might use Git style repo (or not, there are plenty of options), but I would self host.
Can you buy the new Apple TV yet? I'm sure if iFixIt had waited until they could purchase one instead of using a preview unit, they wouldn't have gotten as much flack as they did. They threw caution to the wind and it boomeranged back in their face.
I don't even bother with 7z format because modern OSs support ZIP out of the box. I only install 7-zip for slightly better interface than the one built in to the OS, but I know that anyone I send the file to can read the file.
While I think the whole thing sucks, here's the problem:
TRU isn't bringing in H1-B workers.....they're hiring TCS to replace a department for cheaper. Done. End of TRUs involvement with choosing the replacement workers.
TCS is using H1-Bs to bring in people skilled in job shadowing as part of the outsourcing contract.
TCS is then using Indian labor to fulfill the contract because those workers are cheaper and can NOW do the same job, thanks to the job shadowers.
Had TRU picked a different outsourcing firm, that firm would have still brought in people to learn the processes and the TRU people would have lost their jobs (or potentially been transferred to the outsourcing firm --- that used to be a fairly common condition of outsourcing).
So, who's to blame? TCS if anyone. Could they have found some non-Indian people qualified to do the job shadowing (the skill the H1-Bs were hired for)?
My doctor (now retired) would actually offer scripts for multiple drugs if they were cheaper than the single "combined" drug that did the same thing (i.e. a blood pressure + water pill, he'd offer them as single pills to save money).
I started college in 1990 and the college I went to (Louisiana Tech University) was teaching C in all of their beginning CS classes [I already had BASIC and Pascal under my belt by this point, so it was just another language for me, but some people struggled].

You're also missing the other side of it.......

NTB doesn't sell cars. They just sell car service.

This was my thought......SnapChat has a video mode and is more like an IM than a broadcast.

It wasn't SUPPOSED to be used for the financial institutions.....they just borrowed the id because they were too lazy to create their own.

For 4WD, you could probably check the suspension. If it's on some sort of rollers, you probably don't get a lot of bounce.
