I dunno about the rest of the world, but the first time I installed Vista/Live One Care it got a virus, the second time it got a bug in explorer and crashed/restarted constantly, the third time it got a virus, the fourth time it updated the driver on the NIC which then stopped working and was impossible to roll back, the fifth time it was fine and since I keep it off the internet and only for playing games, hopefully it will stay that way. The only problem I had with it after that was grub not booting it properly and that was a simple fix and nothing to do with Vista.
Mate, we have the "Southern Cross Cable". Strangely enough the spec they have on the internet for it is nowhere near what a Telecom engineer was telling me last month, but you just can't trust Telecom, eh? We also have a supposed spy base in Nelson but I haven't seen that one:), and a "whale" listening post run by the N.Z. navy (they get real upset when you drag an anchor around near it....nice fishing though). Other than that, it's all pretty much gumboots down here, mate.
And once you have an guitar perfectly tuned to A, you will be forever trying to figure out why you sound like crap when playing along with a song. The problem is that a lot of songs are not played while tuned exactly to standard tuning. Some are a little under, some are a little over. The long open first string (largest diameter) in "Justice for All" isn't an E, its a fret down I think(Maybe two(D), maybe one and a bit(?). I don't have a guitar on me at the moment) as is most of Black Sabbath. If you play along with the radio, a lot of the time you have to retune a little for each song. Even if you are just playing to yourself, a lot of songs don't sound quite right when played totally in standard tuning. Good idea though, I have to admit that.
That I would agree with, sugar should be far more maligned. Btw, do you know of any/. parties that are happening in the Auckland area for the anniversary?
"Basically, the solution is to build in an (optional) method to the mainstream Linux distributions so that users can purchase and install legitimate codecs, or get them with the distribution pre-installed."
openSuse are doing that with the 10.3 release. If I click on a file I don't have a codec for, it comes up with;
Search for suitable codec?
The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install suitable codecs to play media files. Do you want to search for a codec that supports the selected file?
If I then click on ok. It opens a browser at the relevant codec page.I don't know if you would get all the codecs with a bought version. I haven't bought a copy since 9.3.
Look at a map. You will find that Myanmar is right next door to China. You want to roll on in there and overthrow the government? What do you think America's stance would be if China tried that. Do you remember the Cuban missile crisis? The only chance of solving this militarily would be if China marched in, and I don't think India would like that at all. The U.S. is not going to interfere with China. China would walk all over the U.S., both militarily and economically. The only way the U.S. could win would be by nuclear action and that would be suicide. Besides, I doubt the U.S. could sustain a real war at the moment. That would be political idiocy.
I would have to agree with you there, I stayed awake for three days as a teen to see what would happen. No drugs involved, I just wanted to know what happened. It would appear that at the three day mark my brain starts to buzz, I have mild visual hallucinations, and problems going to sleep:). I wish I had of had a webcam back then. I would have liked to see if I was taking "brain breaks" at that point.
Thanks for not talking about your ex. If she is really, really evil, I have probably already met her anyway:).
Privacy is a natural process? I don't think that will stop governments legislating it away.
Update on the wiki though. To quote, "The response so far has been better than expected and the Police Act Review Team would like to take some time to collate the submissions and suggestions made thus far. Thanks to all contributors." Not bad. It will be interesting to check up in a month to see what responses they got and what they will use. I wonder how all those people got passwords, and why we never saw any of the edits?
"We should say "Fuck russia and China's vetoes" and go in there and fuck up their regime Iraq style."
So let me get this straight, you want to attack a country on China's border? I wonder what exactly you would do if China landed troops in Mexico.....or perhaps the Russians in Cuba?
--The above comment assumes you are American, if you are Thai then go for it--
"However, where I do feel the pain is, when Linux doesn't recognize my soundchip."
I don't think I have ever had windows recognise my soundchip. With Linux (opensuse, ubuntu, slackware) all I have had to do was put the chip type into google with the distro name and follow the instructions.
"On one side I'm happy to hear of this effort, OTOH I'm concerned that this is one of the vendors with an alliance to a multiple convictions monopolist."
I take it you only use that logic when you want to. Otherwise, what country would you live in?
Re: Your comment. Yes, I imagine religion feels the same:).
Or, in relation to yesterdays shooting of a hammer wielding assailant; "The decision to shoot is not a two second decision, you were holding the gun weren't you?"
offtopic In regards to the "being in a public place means you have no right to privacy" comments being bandied around nowadays. As a thought experiment, how do you think a pleasant "OK then, please take your clothes off" would work? Is this not a situation where we have a right to privacy in a public place? /offtopic
Not if they only have one Tech. At first glimpse, I wondered what exactly the Tech was wondering. Now, I wonder if the title wouldn't have been better as H.S.T.W..
"scare the defendant into a plea-bargain" Oh yes, you have to love those. I watched a guy plead guilty to fifteen charges he didn't commit so they wouldn't charge his girlfriend and remove their children from her. All because the police wanted those crimes off their books.
They probably just phrased the question well. Something like, "Would you feel safer if the police could instantly monitor a crime on your street?". Or maybe it is just shoddy statistics, like we use in the New Zealand census for ethnicity profiling (eg; It seems to default to any ethnicity that is not European).
"While many "down under" residents view New Zealand as a minor state of Australia (a dimuitive Tasmania with more sheep), New Zealanders tend to take issue with this."
It's not that. It's that you took our velcro gloves and didn't wash them before giving them back!
Time for pancakes?

I installed it last night........it's beautiful. Definitely worth checking out :).

These were quite good. The sound isn't the greatest in the first one but he is brilliant to watch and the subject matter is very well explained.
One can only hope they are not triangulating the screams of the astronauts.

Wars to organise? To quote one of our Prime Ministers, we are 'a dagger pointed at the heart of Antarctica'.

No, I hadn't. :)
This was on a couple of weeks ago though.

Doctors are observers too.
