You are aware of the fact that you can switch to another (=longer) skill whenever you want without losing any skill points of the current skill?

It's common practice to change to a longer skill right before going offline. If you log in again, switch back to the shorter skill you were training before.

Given the fact that you can just copy the complete EVE folder to a different location and start the game without any kind of configuration, you surely don't need admin privileges to install EVE.

For all those that demand that apps might be installed without admin privileges: That would be a nightmare in a corporate environment, because everybody and his dog could install his dozen favorite games/applications at work.

I've had less than 10 PvP fights in this time (all except one of them forced onto me and I lost all), but I still have fun playing EVE. I've just bought another 180 day GTC. Yes, it's unforgiving. But it's also a real nice sandbox, giving you the freedom to explore the world like very few other games do. There's a 14 day trial available, try for yourself. MIR was already mentioned as an example where low tech was the key point to keep the station in space. In WW II, the T34 tought our german tanks a lesson about maintainability. The appealing thing about old technology is: there's almost nothing you can't fix with a hammer and a screwdriver. While of course not being as advanced as today's technology, it's for sure easier to fix and easier to implement a workaround in case of a failure (as demonstrated by Apollo 13). Try doing that with some faulty "advanced" circuit.

That will be (if it ever gets build) the first official maglev track in Germany. He managed, last minute before leaving office, to get some EU subvention promised (that's what he tells, at least) and the Deutsche Bahn throws some money in as well (tax payers money, that is).

See, we have this maglev train development going on for almost, what?, 2, 3 decades now. An enormous sum of tax payer's money has been thrown at this project. Politicians are finally somewhat doomed to get a commercial track up and running, because they were the once that always promoted and protected this technology all those years.

You don't even need to resort to vinyl that never appeared on CD before. Even older CDs don't get republished once the record label rans out of stock. Although the CD master, the booklet/cover has already been done and probably is still available somewhere.

Last year I decided to go through my vinyl collection and by the CD version of my favorite vinyl records. Making a long story short, although I knew there once was a CD version out, my music store couldn't order it for me: "Out of stock, will not be republished." I was lucky to find a used copy from one of my favorite artist (a band called Zed Yago (sorry, german Wiki entry, no english version available)), but clearly not the artist nor the distribution chain profited from that sale, although the price I payed was in the range of any new, standard music CD out there in the stores (and it was worth it).

Of course, bands like this one don't sell copies in the ranges of The Beatles, but I guess with today's technology and given the fact that concepts like books on demand already exist, there should be a way for me to order a brand new CD that gets manufactured after I ordered it.
