Why is it automatically assumed by members of this site that everything should be free? We do not think everything should be free, most of us just assume that after a reasonable amount of time most public knowledge, as well as intellectual copyrights and ideas should become public domain and freely available.
...after some established time period (let's say 50 years), ownership of your property passed into the public domain? Programs you wrote, houses and land you own, cars you drive. Once again we don't talk about physical assets, we're talking intellectual rights. We're not demanding that DisneyLand/World/etc all now be in the Public Domain, we're thinking that 75 year old copyrights should be.
So why aren't you still with that small time provider, and why don't you mention the company's name so that other Slashdotters can take advantage?
The original company was Integrity Online, which got bought by Arilion (flash required...ugh) which I believe at least in the Tennessee Valley(North Alabama, South Tennessee) who is really providing their service through API-Digital
This was before they got bought and everything, but I have a friend who uses them and hasn't had a single problem with dialup or dsl support/uptime. Integrity Online use to do filtering with their DSL if you requested it... not sure if they still have that option or what, but anyway.
It also indicates a lack of trust in a relationship that you feel you have to go behind the other persons back.
Well if she wont tell you what you believe to be the truth about her past, then wouldn't that indicate a lack of trust in the relationship by her if you're correct, and in the case that you are then of course you couldn't trust her!!
Anyway, I'm just stating that there is often a very valid reason to be suspicious of people. In general I give people my utmost respect, but never trust them unless they have proven to me that they deserve that trust.
And now for my personal story... [blah blah blah] Sounds exactly like a problem I had with a couple girls, they wouldn't tell the truth about things(providing a lack of trust to me), so therefore I go behind their back and look shit up. They claim I didn't TRUST them.... NO SH*T, thats why I looked it up!!! And I was RIGHT to suspect because I was right all along... how is it that if someone lies about stuff then its found out, you're the guilty one for finding out?

This is a HORRIBLE comparison. Gnome and KDE are completely different window managers. If you were going to make a comparison of bathrooms... then lets say GNU/Linux is the house, then KDE would be one bathroom and Gnome would be a different bathroom. Unless you want all the bathrooms in the house to look identical for some weird reason, their isn't a reason that they should get changed. All bathrooms have a toilet and sink, some may even have a shower, and looking different is usually considered an asset! Gnome and KDE each have their own way of doing things, I think this change was strickly made for newbies that don't understand how KDE/Gnome work. Or in the analogy sense, were trying to piss in the sink instead of the toilet.;-)
All that being said, I think if redhat wants to make itself the newbie distro, then thats fine, they'll probably draw a lot more people to the linux community and also gain a larger part of the distro market. I myself who have choosen redhat for the last 5 years or so will now be switching my distro to a more technical and less crippled desktop.
"...using Vorbis means your player and encoder choices aren't bound by licensing terms. A very big company indeed. Microsoft actually makes more money from playing the stock market than from software these days...[shortened for length]...Microsoft do not, at present, produce any products that I would term "good". Define good by any criteria that fit that area of the market. This includes their optical mouse, touted as a great innovation (which it might be - for HP). The Windows platform (all 6 or 7 mutually incompatible fragments of it) is still used by me for some things because, while it is deplorable for many reasons*, it does do a large range of client-side tasks relatively bearably.... [shortened for length]...The other point is that Microsoft's business practices are indefensible. Muddying the water with politics or does not alter the fact that while they profit, everyone else suffers. They sunk upwards of $500 million dollars into trying to destroy Netscape. They are supremely arrogant - their insufferable belief that they have done no wrong, and their persistence in commiting large-scale crime dwarf the posturing of even the hardest Un*x zealot. (Their shady financial activities also dwarf any half-assed attempt at philanthropy by their top brass.)
In the US, they've bought enough senators (or is it congressmen? I can never remember) to keep the government at arms length...[shortened for length]

If thats seriously the case and most American's are as useless/helpless/stupid as you say, then let those that are die out! Seems to cover it to me... to bad our founding rights that the country were built on are now the founding documents that our government walks all over now!
It seems to me there is an obvious answer to this problem. First off the company wants you to produce software and is will to pay you the hours at work that you would spend on this. The thing is you have an almost completed project that you've been spending a lot of time on and would like to market yourself. Wouldn't your current company be a perfect place to market your new project. You simply inform your superiors that you already have a product that matches that criteria and would be willing to sell them a license to this product. You spend a good few days finishing up your project, sell a license to your company and sell the licenses to whoever else you want as well. Everyone is happy, yes/no?!

Hmmm control by a few large greedy corporations
or owned by lots of smaller less greedy companies. What would I choose...
Larger companies:
Stability
Greed
Standardization on architecture
Greed
Less Helpful
Greed
Usually more informed
Did I mention Profiteering Glutton?
Smaller companies:
Not as big a wallet
Can be more helpful
Not as stable
More in touch with its customers
Government:
Inefficient
Cost ineffective
Technologicly challenged
Greed for power
Not at all helpful
Unresponsive
As long as its not run by the last one, the chances are we're better off.
