It's not. But their right to live is greater than your right to kill them. Stop != kill. It may well be perfectly possible to stop someone stealing your router without shooting them in the back, if so great. If not, well, call the police. That's their job. If they're not able to catch the thief, look to your democratic process to get them better funded or whatever.

IMHO the right to life trumps pretty much every other right there is.

I don't think it's at all clear cut that Apple are in the right here. Sure, TigerDirect could have been more friendly than waiting until release day to slap on the suit, but if they own the trademark, they own it. Apple could (and should) have done a search before picking that name.

It basically means that once the first sale has occured (i.e. you buy something from a store) the original manufacturer has no control over what you do with it (destroy it, resell it, whatever you like). That's why Honda can't stop you selling your old car.

However, when there's copyright involved, there's a different set of issues. If you buy a DVD you own that physical piece of plastic. You can resell it, lend it, burn it, bury it, paint it yellow or anything else you see fit. However, what you can't do, is make a copy of the movie on it. That's because you don't own the movie, you own the plastic. Along with the plastic came a license to watch the movie, which you can transfer if you sell the plastic. But, under copyright law (nothing to do with first sale) you cannot modify, copy, distribute or anything else the movie itself.

This new law seems to now allow limited modification in certain circumstances, but still not (of course) copying.

Personally, I'm not in the least bit interested in readin an authorized biography, particularly about someone who's alive, as it's just marketing spin (autobiographies are another matter, as they give you some insight into how the person thinks).

No one (that I've seen) is arguing that Apple don't have the right to do this, of course they do. It's just really dumb - LMAOROFL dumb. They account for such a tiny portion of Wileys sales that they will happily take all the free publicity instead of the lost sales. As for the notion that people in the public eye have some mystical right to aboloute privacy, BS. I don't have that right, neither do you, and neither does Steve or Bill. IMHO, when you make money by putting yourself in the public eye, you open yourself up to the badside to.
