I am glad you mentioned it was a joke because I would not have guess it was since I actually do that (click-thru for the comments.)
The comments are (like here) usually more informative than the article. And for political articles, it proves a nice temperature check to the mindset of my peers.
it's also the notion that having more people pass is more important than actually teaching them something.
This is the root of the problem. By the time it is bad enough to be forced not to pass a kid, the kid is so far lost and hates school so much - because of being so lost - that it is too late.
Don't blame the children. They are not the ones that decide to pay less on education and that ebonics or it's more recent equivalent is good enough.
We are paying more than we were 20 years ago yet children are doing worse in school.
The problem isn't with the money (maybe in some districts) but the way they teach kids now.
My daughter was not taught how to read using phonics, she was taught using "sight words." I asked the teacher she wasn't learning the multiplication table and the teacher said that it was not taught anymore because they prefered 'concepts.' As a result, my daughter does multiplication (not addition but multiplication!!!!) using her fingers. She reads well now due to the time I have spent with her but her writing is still terrible (but it looks pretty.)
Now I fully admit that I should have taken the time to have taught her myself instead of relying on the school system. But I do remember being taught these things when I went to school. And passing out a multiplication table or phonics sheet is not expensive.
I have been waiting for insurances to start charging more for people that have poor diet and exercises habits ever since they went after the smokers.
Unfortunetly, I fall into all of the above categories but have recently quit smoking. (I will swear by chantix for any smoker - assuming that smoker can handle the stomach sickness and nightmares that occur while on the medicine. I didn't have the nightmares but I did have more vivid dreams. It defintely made me sick, though.)
It's funny how Walmart is equated to the devil and the destoryer of mom & pop stores yet whenever an open system or system with linux pre-installed comes out, everyone runs to point that Walmart has cheaper computers and parts. And And Dell is the computer equivelant of Wallmart (except they are better able to outsource their problems since it they are not a brick and mortar store
I didn't used to but it is happening frequently enough for me to be using non-x terminals for my encodings since they usually take several hours.
I tried using openbox as with window manger for KDE but I still ended with the same problem. I have a hunch it is related to virtualbox but cannot prove it. And the nvidia driver I install very quickly because the nv driver is painful. I can see pages redrawing when I scroll. I usually end up using the vesa driver if I ever have problems with the nvidia binary but in fairness it has been years since I tried the nv driver.
I really wish I could figure this out because it does annoy me. Fortunately, restarting X does not effect my other terminals so not much is lost but still...
And can I switch back to the propitary drivers when my desktop boots up?
That said, for my main desktop computer, I may switch to the Nouveau drivers since I only use it to browse the web and encode movies. I don't even have my speakers set up to that machine.
Be nice not to have strange lockups. (To be fair, I am not sure if that is a nivdia or KDE issue but my mouse quits responding to the button click but I can still see it moving on the screen. This usually happens when running virtualbox so maybe it is doing something with the mouse focus - except the problem persists even after I close it.) As it is, I do my encoding on tty2 and tty3 since I hate having to restart an encode (take to long.)
I do want a story with a definite beginning, middle and end. This isn't to say that the game can't continue after the story has ended; I much preferred the way the Broken Steel DLC allowed you to continue exploring the Capital Wastelands in Fallout 3, after you'd beaten the original game and the continuation story.
Do you work in an IT related field? Because I do not. And I do not know anybody (at work) that has even heard of openoffice. In fact, I do not think it would even occur to most of those people that there might even exist another "office" solution.
I know when I tell people that I don't use MS Office they are shock and almost immeditely assume that I must not view any documents at home.
The type of people that would use the trial version of MS Office are probably not the type people that would have heard of openoffice (or even better AbiWord.)
You ackowledge your post is redunant. Good for you.
It did not need to be restated. If you wanted to simply voice your support to his thread, then you should have replied to his thread rather than starting a thread whose sole purpose was to agree with the previous thread.
+1 for Wash. Sheppard Book was ok and I can think of another character I would have killed before him, but he is not much of a loss (even though I would have loved to haved found out more of his back story.)
It seems the only soloution you would settle for is a policy where only solo pictures of ones self are allowed (or pictures of people who also exist on facebook as long as they have the exact same privacy settings as the person posting.) Also, people should no longer be allowed to post about any group activites unles the above critera is met.
Should we stop at facebook or should we go after every person that has a blog or personal site as well?

This is cheaper than pay-perview which would be the same type of audience.
Myself, I am waiting for my Wii netflix cd. I hate early advertising because it hurts my need for immedite gratification :(

Wish I had mod points.... Thanks

Whenever I think of switching to an intel cpu I give up since I cannot figure out how to compare them to an amd cpu
I am sure I would have the same problem if I was switchiong from itel to amd
And don't we all appreciate 3 episodes back to back with the last one being the a parter...

My favorite like with was Dark Sun: Shattered Lands
I hate the trend of movies doing this. You see an awesome trailer which ends with the teaser date of Spring 2011.
I guess it must work for some people. For me, it just burns out my desire for the movie long before it airs.

I wrote the above as a joke, but..

The copy that Debian provides has a spell checker. (Is there a woosh here I am missing or does the windows version not come with one?)

That is wrong. They have the trial version availble while the other versions are updated and re-released.
What, surely you don't think they would offer a trial version just to try to lock you into to their products?
Regarding note two - one of the more interesting aspects of firefly for me was that there were no aliens.
Problem is I don't know if Fillon or Bladwin would leave Castle and Chuck.
Obviously anything Glau touches dies (including her in dollhouse...)

That is quickly becoming a series that I am doing my desk to forget ever existed.
I am afraid if I keep watching it, I will end up hating the whole SG universe. (Sort of like what the series finale of BSG did for me.)
That is only for other people's movies, music, and source code. Not for anything related to ourselves :)
So the solution is what?
