of course i would like to see you try to put a hardware keylogger on my iBook (it runs fedora and mac) or my iMac's bluetooth keyboard. Course bluetooth would prolly be easier to keylog wirelessly

the parent makes half of a good point, but even then windows can be secure if you are smarter than the average bear.

long answer is DING! DING! don't bank online. Walk, Bike, Hitchhike, or Drive TO THE BANK, and when online don't assume anything is secure, your just in for a supprise

nice try though (who the hell started that shit in the first place)

i personally think that most of this is a mdeia over reaction. yes more laptops are exploding than did five years ago, yes more people have laptops and more people make laptops than did five years ago. anyone who has been through highschool chem (not that i have) should know that lithium is really exciting stuff and should be given due respect

oh well i right now im more annoyed at my laptop's mobo frying after we just replaced it.

to bad this isn't happening to anyone who deserves it *cough*bil gates*cough* it would be funny if a certain microsoft founder had his laptop blow up

    well not quite,

depending on wich of the three great mac classic ages we're talking about 7, 8, or 9 that wasn't really true

7: had to run on both 68k machines as well as the newer ppc machines and the numerous clones of the day, but still managed to perform quite well on all of them

8: was the first to run on ppc and the g3 line of chips along with supporting a new proggraming system with the carbon libraries

9: well nine sucked and im turning into a troll as i type so i just call it non classic and leave

of course i see no real problem with hand optimized assembly if thats what gets the job done right, and i still think that the mac gui is wonderfull and faster than others (kde, gnome/metashitty)

of course i'd be interested to see what happens when vista rolls out (maybe next decade if we're lucky)

i just pray that amd, intel, nvidia, ati, and all the other hardware guys can come to some agreement so we don't have a schizophrenic micro$oft come out with a horrible os that won't run well on any of them or worse only run on one of them

  13. Re:NOT a hard drive alternative on A Magnetic Memory Alternative to Hard Disk · · Score: 2, Interesting

Most modern os's wouldn't fit in memory, and if they did you would run out of ram very quickly and be forced to flog your hd for swap

sure a chopped down linux distro may run in ram but no way in hell that vista will, or xp & 2k for that matter

what you will want to do is load your data into ram when you access a file

for a PC (and i mean personal comp. macs, linux, and typewriters included) this makes the most sense

yes linux is great, I use it whenever possible
    BUT
Most college kids are going to take one look at the steps required to install most linux distro's and go buy something that does wut they need out of the box
and you left out the number one reason that most college kids have a computer GAMES!
and as far as games go linux is considerably lacking, while a mac that can run mac ported games (most top sellers are these days), AND winblows games (boot camp y'all) that imac that also has a high bragging rights factor seems more appealing
