You seem to be forgetting bandwidth in your argument, and that very few mobile devices CAN decode MPEG2 in hardware. So far it's been proprietary formats, then 3gp and now h.264 when it comes to cell phones.
I agree that MPEG2 have it's uses as a less CPU intensive codec, but not in this case. Had we been talking about the best intermediary format for video editing, I'd have told you to always transcode your h.264 to high bandwidth (50Mbit) MPEG2, or something else like for instance Cineform, as h.264 is very poorly suited for editing, and not just because it's very highly compressed:)
For the bandwidths available for mobile phones (1-2Mbit range tops for most users) you have to go with a codec with a very high compression rate, like the h.264, especially since the devices in question do come with hardware decoders.
Jeddiah have a point though, on a daily basis there are little reason to use your biggest hammer for even the small jobs.
In the case of this thread though, there are really no other option than h.264, as that is the format of choice between high-end smart-phones. I have no idea how Android or iPhone handles 3gp, but then again, that format is not exactly a high performer in any quality category anyway.
The main stumbling block is to decide which bandwidth, and frame size to use, and then perhaps chose the size for the target phone that does the poorest job of rescaling.
I was about to point out the same, most legal seeds are probably not among the most active. I'm not trying to be apologetic about the rampant piracy that Torrents are also used for, however saying that only 0.3% are legal is misleading, using the selection criteria they did, and a relatively small sampling at that.
Actually the artists are locked into the main labels, because indies apparently don't get the same air time as RIAA members do, definitely not in the prime time, on the main broad cast stations.
I'd be far more impressed by this news, had it not been for YouTube's dismal implementation of 1080p, which in reality is only 1920x540. Yes, they effectively do 1080i, but remove one of the frames entirely.
This should prove the point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyFGDHPm-tc
So technically the score would still be: Evolution: inf. Creationism: 0
What this really shows is that empathy and as a result morality really are evolutionary constructs, that creationists are WRONG when they claim that it takes an invisible sky daddy to be moral.
It also shows that either empathy have been a desirable genetic trait for a VERY long time (at least back to the common ancestor for dinosaurs and mammals), or that the trait developed independently in multiple branches of the evolutionary process, suggesting that it's a very desirable, and natural trait indeed.
There is something missing in my previous post. It should have been : "You can only use your car for 20km per month, and only on BP fuel, after which you have to pay a premium set by [Car Manufacturer]. Fee is subject to change without notice. Excess fuel can not be carried over to following months."
I can just imagine the public reaction if a car manufacturer tried something like this: "You can only use your car for 20km per month, and only on BP fuel, after which you have to pay a premium set by . Fee is subject to change without notice. Excess fuel can not be carried over to following months."
Religious views offend me, lets petition Facebook to remove all pages with offensive content! Why not? They removed pages that were supporting a political and religious viewpoint (free speech and cartoons) to cater for the views and feelings a single groups of people. What about my views, and those of everybody else?
New rule for Facebook, if they want to play that game, is that in order to be perceived as being fair, they must necessarily remove any content that is offensive to some group or people.
If you listen to FOX "News", the CRU covered up a lot. If you read the leaked email IN CONTEXT, there are no cover up, or fraud at all.
Fox "News" are a bunch of partisan frauds who are paid to lie through their teeth, and they are very good at it. They and a lot of other stations took single sentences out of context and added their own agenda.
Are you sure you have the capacity to induce jokes like that here?
Nope. I got hot under the collar seeing that desk too.
They may claim that the iP4 does 720p, but it's screen is still only 960x640, and that number comes from http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

I do believe that the MP4 container can handle MP3, if not there are always AC3 as well.
I prefer MKV, simply because it is one of the few to support an entire video package, with multiple audio tracks, subtitles and chapter marks.

Yes, in a business where most things are considered obsolete after 5 years, and ancient at 10, a 20 year patent life time is extremely excessive.
It is sad to see that countries and regions (EU) who do not (officially) allow software patents, are working on legislation to enable them.

I don't know about iTunes.
Just don't forget to pay your SCO licensing fees you cock-smoking teabaggers!
Okay. Now I'm really confused. What does Sarah Palin have to do with SCO???
The approximate IQ of the management.
That is what I observed as well. Though the 4k recordings looks pretty good in "YT1080" mode (I refuse to call it 1080p as it is not)
Vimeo does true 1080p

Where's the "Thumbs Up" button when you need it?
That was the defining difference between 40 and 80 wire IDE/ATA cables, every second wire in the 80 wire variant were a ground.
HDMI is basically just a DVI with sound.
I'm assuming that my current 1Gbps switches will need to be replaced, or are the HDBaseT going to be Point to point only?

It would still be nice to know which ones don't :)
If all Anti-virus products have detected this one since 2008 it obviously begs the question, why didn't IBM's?
Says the AC.
