Okay, everyone, STOP saying "But the T-800 destroyed himself -- how could there possibly be a sequel?!" If you've watched the T2 commercials, you'd know that the T-800s can be mass produced. And they all look like Arnold. Arnold plays a T-800 in T3; but he's not the T-800 from T2. Geddit?

Whether or not any of THOSE companies can produce a completely functional x86 is up for debate, but you should realize that the work that has gone into the development of VIA CPUs belongs to other companies, and not VIA itself.

I think that if this goes to court, it will lose. KIllustrator is a name that was obviously chosen so as to appear as an alternative to Adobe Illustrator. Nevermind that it's a free product. It's not like this program handles disk partitioning; it does the same thing Adobe's offering does. What you have here is a program that does essentially the same thing as another company's program, and you want me to believe that it's just a coincidence that the names are similar? That's infringement.

You've gotta play RED ALERT (especially the new RA2).

You guys and gals don't seem to get it. You guys are all "Well, how about claim.com or iaimtoplease.com or aimhigh.com" -- I don't like it, but AOL isn't simply attacking anyone with AIM in their name. That's not the case. The A-I-M in AIMster REALLY DOES stand for "AOL Instant Messanger," and I think you all know it. That name belongs to AOL. It isn't a matter of having the same three letters in the same order -- that's not the issue. Using someone else's product name is. Is it cool to go after some harmless band of programmers? No, but thinking AOL is goin' after them just because they happen to have some letters in their name is just ignorant. It works with AIM and the name was chosen to communicate that.

  13. We Want A Standard *File Format* on Alternatives To .DOC As Standard WP Format? · · Score: 1

I think a bunch of you are missing the point. We shouldn't want to choose an office suite and make everyone use that. Having StarOffice's document format as the "standard" is just as bad as using MS's .doc. What we need is a file format that all the suites can use. This community's software is more about freedom --choices-- than anything else, so I don't really think we should be attempting to limit ourselves to one particular application to do all our word processing.
