  2. Re:Vote counting research on US Voting Machines Standards Open To Public · · Score: 1

The future of voting needs to be open with pen and paper. If you hide the process away you have lost what you are voting for already so what is the point in voting. Modern democracy needs and option to say "i don't agree with the voting system" when voting. Kind of like a "none of the above" option where if that option wins new people are encouraged to stand.

I live in the UK i have been British all my life. My Vote does not count in this country for the people who run this country !. Many people are not aware that the votes from N.Ireland do not influence who becomes the prime minister.

  4. UK Stuff on GPS Used As Defence In Radar Speeding Case · · Score: 3, Informative

In the UK the speed camers are checked by hand (or at least are ment to). They do this by taking 2 photos from the camera at a set time interval. On the road by the camera there is meant to be a lot of little white marks which are big enough to see in the camera and are spaced at .25meter lengths apart. So now yo uknow how longits been and how far its traveled the rest is easy :)

Though i know this system is sometimes ignored by police int he uk ... eg lazy gone home early etc..

Also in the UK (at least n.ireland) the police are meant to run a test car though speed traps a few times documenting it and keeping a tape etc.. If they fail to produce a copy of the documentation on this to you at the scene if you ask for it then they dont have a case if oyu push it to court.

Another thought about safty on the road is around where i live they have started putting in speed bumps everywhere. Which is meant to slow the traffic down to improve safty. Slow it donw it does. It also annoys the crap out of people driving over bumps all the time and it makes the safty problem worse. Since all the traffic is now slower no gaps form in it so people can no longer cross the road when its busy whichout taking higher risks which is exactly the opposite they were traying to prevent.

Its amazing what the UK goverment can come up with.

What use a forum when newsgroups would have worked perfectly fine! So instead of firing up your own newsreader now you need to track 72 different logins for lots of different forums and it take ages to get back to forums and check if people have posted / responded to things or to find information.

    c) though IE
    d) though a bug in its driver straight into kernel mode

I wish people would stop trying to fight security like they try to fight big fires with water when what you really need todo is remove all the oxygen.

If you sit in the OS and the OS gets exploited this little bit of hardware is really useless and i can think of even getting better hardware for £180 that would perform the same function but actually function !

Meanwhile i have though about getting 1 of these and modifying it to use it as a remote boot manager for dedicated servers in data centers. Now that would be a useful utility ;)

I think the real question is ask is why is there so many ameatures in the security profession ?
After all nobody seems to have actually "fixed" any of the serious issues for at least 5 years now. I think its time to swap some high paid idiots out of the job ....

I think this should sort out the isp's that walk the fine line of price / profit / bandwidth and probably bankrupt various isp's in the uk. Though its also worth noting that in the UK most isp sell an uncapped capped service. Its advertised as uncapped but limited in the small print. Knowing this the last time i changed isp i went for something slightly more expensive package which advertised its service as capped at 30GB / 350GB peak / offpeak caps. But hey they have been meeting their end of the deal so far they always have bandwidth available when i need it so they have been meeting their end of the deal for the last 6 months. Being an ex PlusNet user in the UK they used to cap me on non web / mail traffic to around 12kbytes/sec which was on a 6MBit connection. Then their tech support used to deny any traffic shaping was being performed.

If you were to phone each person it would take an hour todo. Where as a text to a group of people it takes 1 minute and it works out cheaper. People get the chance to see if they are available etc.. your not putting them on the spot and they can silently discard if they are not interested ... Without making up some bullshit excuse. This allows a social network of friends to grow larger than it has done with making tradition phone calls.
