I suppose if I took the world very seriously, I might have been upset. I don't deny that it was (and was intended to be) rude and "fun-making." I don't think it's cool to hurt animals, but I am no vegan/vegetarian with an ax to grind, and I thought it was pretty creative. There are a number of things in my life that are quite open to people making fun of (I'm Catholic - you think that's been easy?), but I don't get upset. Life's too short for me to get bent out of shape over other people's opinions.
It certainly does not bother me that you disagree with my original post - lively discussion is part of what I enjoy about this site - and I respect your right to feel that way. But I do happen to take the stance that it was, in fact, funny, if a bit tacky.
Maybe if I had used the SETI pun site seti.com as an example (Sex with Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) my example would have been more acceptable. You can't please everyone, and neither of us is going to change the other's mind on this. Which is okay.
I suppose those other planets would be "the Mars" or "the Venus." I know, it's pedantic, but good grief I how I do hate that article when used in front of the name of our planet.
Not posting AC because, well, that would be cowardly despite the negative votes I will get, for both "off-topic" and "troll."
A couple with whom I am friends went to Japan a couple of years ago. They were intrigued to find that the norm there is for people on trains to move to an area of the car where there are no passengers, or to move to the gap between cars, to take/make calls. Politeness is still deeply ingrained in Japanese culture; in the United States, "my rights (meaning 'what I want when I want it') at the expense of all others' " is perhaps the normal mindset.
Our behavior is culturally influenced, ergo your sarcasm would be missed by those from a society where the desire to not offend holds sway over one's actions and behaviors.
Can anyone from Japan here on/. confirm or shoot down my comment?
My apologies - I had read a previous article that apparently misrepresented the proposal, and got what I deserved for assuming that the link in THIS article was the same. I read clearly where it stated "even hands-free" so clearly, I'm an idiot:)
EXACTLY my first reaction. I was wondering, "how the hell did they control the damn thing? Apparently, the Iranians sure work quickly, but I thought they'd come up with something better than livestock theft to show off their mastery of our systems."
As lame as "me too" posts are, I'm going to commit one. Though I think Reed Hastings hasn't exactly been a model CEO, I understand why they are taking the steps they take. I don't feel the frustration that many (legitimately) feel over the streaming selection, as I do find lots to keep me entertained and have actually been introduced to genres that I was not "into" previously. I even cancelled my disc subscription yesterday as I finally had to admit, I just don't use it.
Still, I will watch this very carefully. If Verizon take over, and wreck it worse than Netflix themselves almost did (and to some, indeed did), I will join the thousands/millions who have already bailed.
In addition, whether or not individuals liked BSG "2.0," sure there were lots of effects, but the story was the point behind the series, not the scenery. Another example of how sci-fi film/TV should be approached.
I recently picked up "Blood's a Rover" via audiobook, and I find that his dense staccato style is extremely difficult to listen to. Since I have heard so much positive about Ellroy's writing (and yeah, I know the film version of LA Confidential diverts from the novel, AND that "Blood's a Rover" is the third of a rough trilogy), I think he's an author that has to be read, not heard. I may approach him starting with his first novel (my understanding is he didn't start this type of prose until an editor told him to make one of his books shorter, so he began removing words rather than plot items). Once I'm hooked on his storytelling, I may be able to adjust to his unique approach to language.
I built my current PC from various parts suppliers as I did the one before it, as many of you probably did. I have two console systems, a laptop, and a smartphone. Owning those doesn't make me want to give up my PC. Their existence only expands the roles electronics play in my life; they don't remove my want and need for a desktop system - one that I build to my personal requirements.
Wish you hadn't posted AC - you deserve to be modded up. That's actually quite a nice name (may have be obvious to others, but it wasn't to me) - I also had a *groan* reaction when I read the new one. Perhaps you should suggest that to them (too late, I know, but still...)
I have to say as a Christian that I am in strong disagreement with those who noisily espouse to represent (intolerant, angry, and selfish) Christian viewpoints for the whole while truly only representing the vocal minority. I enjoy science; I abhor hate in the name of "saving" people; I believe in evolutionary processes; tolerance is to be embraced (atheists, polytheists, etc - each choose your own way and as long you don't try to get ugly with me, it's all good on my end even if I disagree with you); the Church (I am Catholic) sometimes (often?) has a problem distinguishing between the laws of men and the laws of God and I wish it didn't. Hopefully, religious bigotry won't keep us from using medicine to benefit humanity for too long.
Sorry, but at a time when 1280x720 is very much on the low end of most video cards' settings, I just haven't had issues with ribbons, menus, or title bars stealing useful space from me. Not hating, just saying that I don't find it to be a problem.
Interestingly, I *do* get annoyed when shortcuts change, and don't feel that it's unreasonable to expect them to remain the same.
I'll throw in on your side. It's fine for me, and I *do* prefer it over the old menu style. People will have preferences of course, but I personally am cool with it.
To back up your statement with a short anecdote - my eighth grade math teacher was simply the single coolest adult I and many of my classmates knew then (this was in the 1980s). I wish I knew where he was (or even if he's still living) as I would love to be able to let him know what a positive impact he had on many of our lives. He's not on FB, and of course I don't know if that's because he's no longer with us or just doesn't use it.
I imagine even the non-radicals adhere to it. You don't have to be extreme to love your religion and want it to be respected.

I agree, but you must admit, it was pretty funny several years ago to go to peta.com and get People Eating Tasty Animals.
you can simply avoid a certain brand.

The article mentions that this would allow hands-free devices.

"Agree" post here.

Cormorant?
+1. Others by now have posted an observation equivalent to yous, but you managed a quality first post.
I'm so out of shape that I can't confirm that I even have a heartbeat. For my activity level, this is dance music.
He says he played it all the way through in the article. Still, just one person's opinion.

Both guys quit within 24 hours of each other. Veeeerrrry eeeeeeeenteresting!
Theories, people?

Not to be mean to her, but you haven't met my baby sister. I love her, but I think she could dispute your assertion without saying a word.
It's *because* of my always-on connection that I became a dirty pirate. Maps to treasure are everywhere!! :)
