Listen man, we get it, you are "Stuck Up Musician Man". Not one person on earth, except other stuck up musicians, gives a crap HOW you transfered what you thought in your head to what you recorded, all they care about is what it sounds like. I play guitar, and have been playing for 9 years. I also play drums and a little keyboard, and know a lot about music theory. I don't disagree that it is helpful in playing, and knowing how to write on a staff is good for getting your ideas down, but tab is very useful when trying to figure out a song too. Expecially if you already have an idea of how it goes.
Oh yeah, and when you say "people usually play exactly what is printed, exactly as was originally intended", that is wrong too. Not every song ever recorded was intended exactly to sound the way it was. When you play, unless you are a robot (like many collegate "musicians" who have soulessly learned the tricks of playing, without ever worrying about the fact that what they do is art, not math) when you play a song 10 times, you will play it with at least several notes varying in duration, and possibly even pitch, DEAR GOD!
Music is art, that is why people like different things. If it were not art, everyone would agree which is the best, and which is the worst.
It could if we went extinct. It happened once, and in an infinate universe, that means it WILL happen again. Figure out how to control the weather? What are you going to do if we are struck by a meteor? Figure out how to overcome terrible catastrophes, what about when the sun collapses? Find another planet with a sun? That will take millions of years of travel, but may be possible. What are you going to do when the universe comes together, or spreads infinately apart so that there is nothing around you?
While I am not very sure about his track record in the past, I was really only speaking of the current article.
However, I do not take too much issue with his stance on AT&T's disclosure of phone records. I do not know too much about law, however, the reason is this.
While it is shitty business practice to give up your clients phone records, it is not a breach of privacy. Partially because a phone record is not really anything very personal, and can only be used to track your contacts, and frequency of... contacting them. They are not giving up anything that could be used to personally hurt you, unless of course you are doing something wrong.
Now don't misunderstand this as me thinking that this is a good idea, I definately do not. If they were giving access to actual phone conversations, it would be different (and I wouldn't be suprised if it were true). But legally I just don't think AT&T really has done anything wrong. However, I would be very hesitant to give them any of my business, and I wish more people paid attention to this stuff and actually showed the big companies that they are willing to stop using services over this kind of thing. I think that a lot of blame that gets placed on public officials, though a ton of it is deserved, could easily be pointed at our very complacent and accepting population. I sometimes wonder what it would take to get a large portion of our citizens fired up, not "I'm gonna go blog RIGHT NOW!" fired up, but "I am going to go do something because I believe in it." fired up. So our new president isn't going to bar people from doing things that are shitty... As long as he is going to keep them from doing things that are illegal, I am cool with that.
There might be better options out there though... I just liked seeing someone from Illinois putting a smack down on these frivilous laws.
I believe that is the way that government is intended to work. Our governmental bodies, on all scales, are elected by people to speak for them. When you elect poor officials that make poor decisions that have a detrimental effect on your wallet, that is actually how it is supposed to work, maybe they will spend more time deciding who to vote for next election.
On to the next problem; Which is having anyone worthwhile to vote into office to begin with...
"If controlling access to allegedly 'dangerous' speech is important in promoting the positive psychological development of children, in our society that role is properly accorded to parents and families, not the State."
Now I will have something to do when not playing mmorpgs! My eating and sleeping habits have been really destructive to my ability to maintain a normal social life, in game, of course.
This article is a little slanted towards, "MS said you can't get into their OP, and black hats said, 'bitch please!'". But really, MS probably expected this, and was hoping that they could learn something from watching a collection of hackers test their system. The more problems that are caught now, the less when it is released.
Microsoft doesn't care about impressing Linux users, they care about releasing something that A LOT of normal users can install and forget about. Every iteration they get more stuff right, and their operating system becomes better (except ME, that sucked dick).
people go out of their way to respond in the biggest possible way
[Begin Rant] Except in bars... Where innocent people are frequently beaten up for saying something social to the wrong girl. The bar usually responds by kicking them both out. Try calling the police, and the bouncers will explain to them that you were both at fault, and due to the fact the bars have some kind of agreement with cops that gives bouncers (the sick degenerate fucks they are) some level of power to make these claims, they always win. I am in disbelief at the stupid shit that the police waste their time with, while there are real injustices going on constantly with little or no attention. It really makes me sick.
What the hell are they testing the kids DNA for? Were there dozens of trees in the area, all standing akwardly... with little twigs laying in ruin around them? The police were dispatched to collect sticks from the entire area, scraping them, testing for human intervention?
Listen, I don't like kids either... But you my friend... Are an idiot.
Getting thrown in jail is a very good reason to be crying uncontrollably. Expecially if you didn't do anything wrong. It is very difficult to have no control of a situation. You would probably be sobbing. Give up on the macho crap, it's stupid.
'West Midlands Police deals robustly with anti-social behaviour. By targeting what may seem relatively low-level crime we aim to prevent it developing into more serious matters.'
First off, how is this "anti-social"? I'd say that unless you believe in tree feelings, this has nothing to do with any kind of society damaging behaviour.
I am sick of the idea of dealing harshly with small crimes (does this even constitute a crime?) to prevent big crimes. I don't have the statistics, but i'd be willing to bet that the police in this town didn't do much research that confirms that playing in trees as a child develops often into society destroying behaviour in adulthood.
I honestly thought that this could be some kind of joke... I'd laugh, if I wasn't worried that neighborhood kids are going to be getting jailed for playing. Get inside kids, and no video games either. It will be sesame street and brocolli, and noone gets hurt. Pathetic.
Are you guys all on crack?! They are not going to use a fricken scummvm! The reason that exists is to play the old games code on op systems it was not intended for, not because scumm is some awsome game engine.
You could bet a zillion dollars they are creating a new engine for this game. Even if they were to use another engine, it isn't going to be a 20 year old one... God, is this SlashDot? Or have I happend onto some kids weird MySpace page?!
Yeah, I get your point. I am not saying ALL Linux users are some kind of criminal scum. I am sorry if that is the impression I gave. In fact, I, I being ME, do not give a shit if you rip off games. I have a ton of games at home that I got from friends who run ftp servers with everything I could ever want. I didn't pay for office, I didn't pay for a lot of things I run. That is because I am pretty good with computers, I know where to get stuff, I know how to cheat the system, and I do. I also buy games, if I think they are worth it, or I really respect the publisher. I bought doom and half life, but pirate pretty much anything EA puts out.
When it comes to finding these sites and knowing how to use the cracks, A LOT of windows users do not, while almost all Linux users do. That is the difference.
By the way, most of my friends who ran those servers, where I got all of said games, were die hard Linux fans... But they always had a machine running windows so they could reap the benfits of their talents.:)
I respect the Linux community, a lot of them at least. There is a pretty substantial group of them that don't just advocate Linux, but think that Linux is some superior OP system, that is flawless, compared to the evil Windows that makes your computer melt. I think everyone who has used both can agree that this is not true. They both have their own useful applications.
Today I downloaded an emulator for NES, got Mega Man 2, plugged in my xBox360 remote (I had never tried this before), it was recognized imediately, and within minutes I was playing it in my room. No malicious hacker destroyed my computer. In fact, since I have had XP, nothing bad has happend. I reformat every year or so, more just to keep things clean, and running properly. My computer never crashes, unless I am writing the code...
Mac may be reasonable soon, because they are getting more users, and they can run windows, and run on Intel.
Linux may never be reasonable. What company wants to go through all the added work, for little profit, and a very good chance that their games will just be pirated anyways. Think about who uses Linux at home, not exactly the group EA is going to see as being very profitable.
If you are a gamer, get Windows. You don't have to like everything about an Op system to run games on it. Seriously, it costs 100 dollars, and makes gaming easy.
I sometimes wonder what it is that makes kids turn out the way they do.
Think about how random it can seem. Some of the most productive people come from situations where they were fending for themselves at a relatively young age. Many more from the same group end up really messed up.
Middle class children, who have overprotective parents, often end up in a situation in which they are subject to what I like to call "social inertia", where it seems that they lack an inner drive to do much, but always will do enough to at least get by.
Total screwballs can come from any type of parents. I would love to see some kind of research that deals with this. I wouldn't be suprised to find that many techniques for developing well adjusted kids are counter-intuitive. And some of the stuff that is very common, is just plain bad. Note that by I would like to see research, I don't mean, I wonder what Dr. Phil thinks... Honestly, I think my opinions are just as valid as lot's of so called experts. I want scientifically tested scenarios.
I understand your concern for the kids... I really do. It is very difficult to watch a kid screw up. However, it is the ability to make mistakes, and deal with freedom, with occasional wisdom that creates adults who are independent and powerful. Our society is so over protected and soft that it is getting scary.
What is awsome about the DS is how many games will be great for it. I need a sim city DS, I need a good RPG DS, how about Risk DS?!
Seriously, they can't even keep up with me playing through their games. I need more!

No one who is happy themselves tries to make others feel bad.

The point is, life is temporary, enjoy it.

Get a job with the ESRB!!!
To the community of good ideas... And countries that I have heard of.
:/
I will probably be visiting their site often. I go to www.yahoo.cm at least 5 times a week. Before it just hung my web browser
They were children. Not adults. I would have just been beating up inmates.
I wish I had mod points, You would get a couple.

Fuck the Police!

While I hate what you just said.... It sucks that I understand what you mean... What kind of monster have we created!?
