on the other hand, back then the dead (at least those who got buried in pyramids) were handled with as much respect than the living today. sure, they got cavity searches too, but it was limited to one per corpse... and for a good few milleniae, nobody even thought of invading their homes! isn't that something?
hmmm... ancient-egyptian corpse or modern living person... toughie. i suppose you don't get as much maggots in your nose as a living being.
not exactly what i'd call holy. or "warrior", isn't that word usually reserved for those with a sense of honour? police forces, and military folks even more so, gang up on a single person, outnumbering and outgunning him/her. no honour there, really.
no AC, since this had to be said.
also, not saying that it doesn't need to be done, just that it should be done differently.
one idea would be to randomly generate most content, and have in-game tools for the story workers to create the good stuff. of course, the good stuff would have to be on a grand scale compared to the random things, or it won't ever catch the attention it deserves.
also, having quests based on simulation (competition between farmers, corrupt merchants, threats to the livestock or villagers etc.) would add a lot of content as well, automatically.
you'd need to create a lot of "unique"-ish rewards, so people have something to work for, and you're all set for the background gameplay. you won't get to fight demons and wizards all the time, but at least you get to knock out a few of the evil overlord's hired goons, and take some of their stuff. should be fun enough:) and there's always the demons for those who have gotten far enough to tackle them.
okay, i don't think those people so opposed to raytracing actually get what it means. please, do prove me wrong.
anyway, raytracing current scenes is one thing. raytracing things too complex for a rasterization-based engine is another. we could have detailed scenes using all sorts of transparancy without worrying as much about z-fighting and other detail limits.
then again, the only things i know about raytracing are based on non-realtime renders, so i may be way off.
there's plenty of music out there that's about equal in quality to a stick figure drawing. now, if you could sell it as well as the big guys, you'd only need one or two;)
movie-to-model has already been done somewhere.. not sure if it's the same project, i think it involved microsoft somehow as well...
anyway, something that turns a whole scene 3d would rock indeed.
joking aside... a heatpipe leading heat from the cpu to a copper "plug" (with a couple of prongs to increase surface area) of sorts could make a cup holder or simple coffee maker possible, while also taking extra heat away from the cpu. of course, it wouldn't be as hot as normal coffee makers, but you'd just need a bit more patience. would need some protection though, to avoid lawsuits from the intellectually challenged.
on the other hand, any black hat worth his salt would have little trouble taking on a different identity and blending in with the white hats, if he/she's too curious to stay away.
my thoughts exactly. but on the other hand, it seems odd to think that they'll get it right in this lifetime. it'll take a bit until it becomes truly scary, and by that time we'll have adapted.. still not as good as having those scientists pick a more peaceful subject, though..
"almost but not quite an asshole"
that'd be better than those same people being complete assholes, right? it won't solve anything, but it would sure help a lot, if done right. those last three words are the problem though, how would you prevent abuse?
and just a moment of contemplation later, they'd ask for advice on copyright and IP protection. hhmm... RIAA and microsoft, coÃperating. i, for one, welcome our new style-deficient and greedy overlords?
So they'll be a lot harder to spot, because the Chinese models aren't all hundred meter tall robots.
actually, i'd pay to see one of those japanese spies try to hide. my best guess is that it involves a gigantic cardboard box with eyeholes cut out of it.
hmm? what you just said may be technically true... but i want to make a little comment on it: the definition of "terrorism" has been stretched quite a bit lately. if an iraqi were to attack an army base, it'd be called "terrorism". if american soldiers blow up an al-queda camp, they're heroes. it's a bit.. hypocritical.

NEED FOR SPEED!!! mwahahaaaah!
whut? it's a good one.
join in and shoot some too?
nooo! that leg doesn't go there! CRACK!! ouch...
ya know, i'd rather not have that. i'll get a calc proggie for my phone.
so it's like one of those nifty wristwatch-gadgets, but bigger?
whatever floats your int, man..

Yep, these guys are successful trolls :P
you'll have to explain this concept of "successful trolls" to me, and many others too. it is something new to slashdot.

so we're sharing it? cool. think we could start a class action suit against bush's trespassing? or do we need more people for that?

hmm... 's your planet, isn't it? well then, could you please kick bush off it? george w. bush, that is.. thank you :)
ooh, that's a good question. now, are you about to look under the dalai lama's robe to see?
(not quite sure if the dalai lama is one of those monks who abhor all posessions... probably not. but it's funnier than just using a random monk)
now that's just madness
hey, that's a sweet idea. the first one to get a post that makes all other posts irrelevant would win. think we could organize that kind of contest?
those are supposed to be separate... and maybe a bit less vague. oh well, there goes my karma.
