don't think in the scale of "one woman". think in the scale of "a whole city's decision-maker department that needs to learn something from this". then, $250,000 is faaaaar too little.
yup... that, and making sure they've got the highest salary in the country. at least, that's how it is in the netherlands, where "they shouldn't be making more money than the prime minister!" was an actual argument against power companies..
just thought i'd put that out there. they're not doing all that good of a job, most of the time. anyone mildly intelligent could think of anything our government has done so far. and more, usually. an average salary for an average job should be more than appropriate, i'd say.
And then, on the other hand, you have the pirates who got the same release date, didn't pay a dime, and get MORE flexibilty with the product
you're absolutely right, but i've got a little correction for you: they get an even earlier semi-release date, in the form of leaked betas that honest people wouldn't even notice before the game got out. also, the game won't reach every single store out there right on the release date, so the real release will be a few weeks later than the day where pirates get it online as well.
so yup, honest users really get the short end of the stick here: they get to play later, with limits, and they get to pay more for it. yay honesty... >_>
oh, and capitaine? thanks for the insightful post, man!
downloading pr0n at speeds measured in gigabits/second. man, they wouldn't even take the time to look at the data they're supposed to be processing. did they get some sort of "special arrangement" with their employers?
this reeks of... no, let's not even start going into what it smells like. "fishy" doesn't even come close!
okay, so i get your story. what would your version of the blue screen of death be if everyone owned their own miniature, supercharged LHC a couple of decades later?
total destruction? i'll take vista over that, thankyouverymuch. no hard feelings thought:)
hmm, most code that isn't API-specific would work on any linux distro, and windows, and in some cases, macs as well (aside from some directory issues). the only reason you'd need the lesser-used API calls is for weird manipulations, like DRM systems. anything else can just use open*L and other stuff that works under linux. most of those libraries that work under "linux" get bug-tested to work on Ãll linux distros.
gotta admit, i'm not looking forward to writing linux-compatable code either. a good deal of my friends use linux though, and i like freedom.. shouldn't be a hypocrite and force people to run whatever i make on windows only.
well, the overhead would probably be in communicating both ways, so if you could skip a cycle, it would lower your latency a bit. it would also increase bandwidth over the network, but whether that'd get passed on to a user without said user paying more for it... well, idunno. i doubt it.
heh, good one! no mod points here at the moment, though.
but you have to admit, at least this world doesn't have script kiddies. you can't take someone else's hacks and use them yourself like you can for any microsoft system. gotta love that little bit of attention to detail, i mean.. imagine what would happen if everyone could just telekinese some deadly shit on anyone else's head. chaos, mayhem and no more politicians. yup, great job, god!
now, folks, please excuse me while i go look for some exploits.
and that's why they used wristbands in microsoft's environment, not money. while you can reach a point where you say: "okay, that's it, i've got enough microsoft-branded wristbands and gimmicks", the same does not apply to money and useful gadgets you can sell.
if microsoft isn't offering anything that'd actually sell well as a reward, it'd make a decent system. it shows appreciation without being efficiently exploitable.
on the topic of the videogame as a medium, i feel like i have to mention this:
the most popular definition of "art" is that it evokes emotion and thought. now, while music is a powerful medium on it's own, and the same thing goes for paintings and sculptures, video games really beat them all in terms of possibility. while almost all video games nowadays are made to sell, not to impress, the genre still combines the means of virtually every other art form we've got. storytelling, it's there. emotions, it's there. thought-provoking situations, they're all in there.
you're just upset because there's a new medium out there, and you won't accept it.
and it's just gross if you put ketchup on it. mustard's better, it really brings out that extra "flavour" from being served in a football helmet ;)

someone call the thought police!
actually, it would. in that case, the amount of money for certain operations would be directly related to how many people care for it.
at the very least, we'd have less wars, and shorter ones, too.

hmm, mod this redundant or informative as you will, but i feel like it should be pointed out:
EULA: End User License Agreement.
firefox will be replacing this with a license agreement. for whom? the end-user ;)
but i'll forgive them, they're cute. all innocuous and stuff :)

but i get the crowbar!
that electrical activity is god.
shocking!
fooh, it almost looked like google spanked the tracemonkey. glad you got it rectified, zoips!
so you're going around, annoying everyone, and you expect to be taken just as seriously afterwards? i need a sniff of whatever you're smoking, man!
"i know kung fu"
well, if they asked for FINGERS!!! instead, they'd get odd questions.
Boom! Out go the lights! You're screwed, in a bad way.
by mister T?
wanna bet this isn't gonna help intel much?

*worships*
i actually started thinking of d&d trolls there... drooling, ugly, annoying, and insanely hard to kill... really does fit the description, doesn't it?
so if you can breathe holy water, you're evil, but if it kills you, you're good?
a bit like the witch hunts, ain'nit?
