    Don't be so sure. Think about it. Without a test your child too may have a rare mitochondrial disorder. Without a study no one knows how prevalent the disorder might be. When it comes to parents even vaccines that have a higher chance of saving a life than causing autism become something to worry about.

    mpeg-la just wants to make money before google tries to make software patents invalid. Google has a lot to gain from patents going away. Take a google logo and paste it on tons of new apps they can't touch because someone owns a patent to an abstract idea that applies too broadly. Google can outpace any dev team. They only use patents for protection

    If this works out and their internet access appears to have been improved as a result, then I will support the concept of net neutrality. However, I doubt I will support and US implementation of it. I don't like the FCC. Anyone know anything about the regulatory commission that enforces net neutrality in Chile? Hopefully they are less political than our FCC.

    Why do blind people need video?

    If blind people are interested in media content then provide an audio only stream instead of forcing the video player to work for blind people. I would hope most publishers would be happy to provide this. Some forms of media are just incompatible for individuals without all or certain senses. I would assume it's rather hard for blind people to appreciate a movie simply by listening to it.

    It's a great idea, but how practical is this really?

    Even when connected to secured wifi networks your MAC can be sniffed. MACs are not secure. Try using airodump sometime. ;-)

    If I can't use it with compiz it's not really worth much to me. I've been waiting years for DRI2 on ATI. I'll never buy ATI again. Snapdragon processors could be used for netbooks. I don't think it will make it until they learn the open source community will probably help to get compiz running on it if they make it available.

    Sometimes scientists over complicate things. The simple answer is usually the right one. It would do them good to dumb things down.

    As long as their transponder is working ATC should be able to steer aircrafts away from them. As long as the weather is clear it shouldn't be a problem to fly around in giant circles.

    I doubt it's noisy transmitter because it's unlikely a WIFI radio will interfere with all channels simultaneously. Make sure you try different channels.

    If you use linux and your card supports packet injection you can use airodump to capture packets and see who is transmitting the most data. You may also be able to walk around with your laptop and find which direction the signal gets stronger.

    As long as an individual is adequately informed of the risks that individual has a right to take that risk. The Geneva convention is about the state using humans as test subjects. That is a whole different can of worms.

    Winsock is not open source... Like DOS, Microsoft "Owns" it.

    Actually there were several TCP/IP vendors for windows, but they wanted BSD style API. They couldn't fork(), so they created winsock.

    He sounds more like a lobbyist than a sage omen of caution like Einstein was.

    Green technology is totally socialized in the United States. A company can't compete without lobbyist. Perhaps without the lobbyists we would be MORE companies competing instead of the government picking which technologies succeed. Think about how many research dollars are wasted on lobbyist.
