    No, sort of. There are three known "kinds" of neutrinos: electron, muon, and tauon. And they seem to randomly change from one kind to another. This is why I don't dismiss the possibility that neutrinos might travel faster than c. If they do, it wouldn't be the first completely bizarre thing about them.

    US patents filed after 1995 are for a term of 20 years from the filing date, which was changed from 17 years from the issue date to align with the WTO.

    Fixed that for you. Many patents lose time from this change, since it frequently takes more than three years for a patent to be issued. This patent, though, does gain about 6 months.

    I'm still somewhat surprised that I haven't seen anyone yet point out that the Raccoon suit and Tanooki suit were two different things in Super Mario Bros. 3. The Raccoon suit only gave you a spin attack and let you fly, while the Tanooki suit also gave you the statue ability.

    No, mon ami, it is almost all US. In fact, about 25% of world greenhouse emissions, more than any other nation, even if weighted by economic activity.

    It's been a while since I've taken any math classes, so clearly I missed the memo about 25% being "almost all".

    Also see Isaac Asimov's The Gods Themselves. Short version: matter being exchanged with another universe also causes "physics" to be exchanged, namely the exact strength of the nuclear forces, and the question becomes if the new physical constants propagate at the speed of light.

    They don't set out to implement a sort algorithm, they do it unknowingly. They don't recognize that the problem they are working on involves sort, but yes, generally any library/framework sorting call they could otherwise have made would have sufficed--and saved them a lot of time...

    Then the problem isn't that programmers never bother optimizing code, but that you work with bad programmers.

    Second, the states can pick up any of these 'profitable' public enterprises that Paul is proposing to be thrown out.

    As soon as you can convince the oceans and atmosphere to stay within each state, then we move NOAA's work to the states.

    Oh please, didn't we end the neckbeard pedantry over what an "OS" is years ago? An OS is the software that comes with the device you buy. That's what it means when you talk about a phone OS.

    So all of those free trial versions of software are part of the operating system? Symantec's antivirus is part of the operating system? Notepad is part of the operating system?

    As others have stated, it's only a preventative measure if both sides care about existing. Iran as a nation probably doesn't want to be completely destroyed, even if they could take out Israel at the same time. There are several smaller organizations that would have no problem with mutual destruction with Israel, though. Iran would probably be quite willing to give them the weapons to do it if it couldn't be absolutely proven that the weapons were freely given by the Iranian government, which is what would be required for any kind of retaliation.

    Maybe not Farrah Fawcett (I haven't really paid any attention to her in about 20 years), but Michael York has done some pretty recent stuff that younger people would know. First thing that comes to mind for me as far as recent, popular stuff would be Basil Exposition.
