I just happened onto Debian for my first and only flavor, just to get a feel for the install, config and use (I had used gentoo in college programming lab). I was initially drawn by the package system and I gotta say I liked it. Once you get a feel for the basic commands and control schemes it's pretty easy.
I commend the whole (even while poking obligatory fun at HP, which has turned into a heaping pile of mediocre hardware and abysmal software)
Here I was using unsecured wifi at Hong Kong international, you know the one by the shady young-looking guys milling around with stolen laptops? Anyhoo, I was working on an unprotected pocket excel document which I stored in my Shared files folder containing all the Soc. Security numbers of my company's employees while trying to connect to the bluetooth device of this stewardess I had taken a liking to when I happened upon this article. For shame, Microsoft, for shame.
OpenOffice.org is FREE! FREE I tell you! Given the choice between a known-to-be-vulnerable $200 suite and a hypothetically-vulnerable Freeware suite, I'll take the latter. The day I discovered OO still ranks in the top 10 of my favorite computing moments of my life.
A great disturbance in the Force. It was like a million voices crying out in unison, then suddenly silenced as millions of Dads finally attempted to use their $600 Costco telescopes, only to realize they had thrown out their manuals with the box...
With $500 gaming rigs and cable for $50/month it would be a hard sell to bring gamers out of the comfort of their own homes.
I think the best way, as some others have said, would be to offer as many services as possible. And do it with style and panache.
Get a decorator, make the space comfortable and cool to look at. Offer coffee(good coffee), pizza, tourneys, shit maybe even rent a booth to a tattoo artist. Maybe double as a music venue at night.
I just think you'll need more than 5 beige PC's and a router.
I really, really **** it when my ****** news service is ******** with. I mean why can't I read ****** or write about **********? To top it all off I can only play *** for 3 hours max before some ******* comes to my ***** apartment and threatens to send me to **** camp. **** you Y**oo.
I wasn't trying to troll. You guys act like EVERY user should know how to dig for Win64 Drivers or deploy nix at home. I CAN but frankly I'm happy with XP's familiarity and title libraries. Win 64 is NOT totally supported yet, how does that make me a troll?
I kinda like to run Games without emulation on my hardware though. I've got debian on an ancient box for my kids. I didn't run games, I wouldn't be spending so much on hardware.
64 bit processing, let alone dual-core tech has yet to be fully applied in the mainstream. People salivate and argue over the latest and greatest and when to buy what to stay "future-proof" in terms of hardware.
I'm still waiting for a viable 64-bit OS fer cryin' out loud, and don't get me started on SLI...
I am going to purchase a single-core AMD 64 San Diego core for $139 bucks and I'm going to be just fine for the next 2 years minimum. I keep my gaming system in tip-top shape, so I don't need an extra CPU core to process all the spyware running in the background.
Contagious cancer? As if I didn't have a million reasons to stay a pasty, game-addicted, furtive and nervous agoraphobe.
If it can happen to our canine brothers, it can happen to us.
If we are, then Mao is rolling over in his spartan, commie grave. If not, then I'd say this is just a software version of vertical integration, first seen thousands of years ago, in the 1920's.
Tax them, control their manufacture and sale (and I mean actually control it), now you have billions in tax revenue instead of expenditure, you've got money for treatment and education programs, you've got cheaper, safer drugs, less crime, less-crowded jails and unemployed Drug Cartels.
Downside?
Probably a rise in casual drug use. Who cares? Let us navigate our own lives please. kthnxbye.
it's called a hatchet. (Thank you, I'll be here till 5, be sure to tip your admin!)
I'm never buying a processor again. I'm tired of chasing the ultimate hardware ghost around. Console gaming keeps looking better and better to me.

Outsourced HP Linux support? This could get ugly.

I think this will be great for all the casual guilds having trouble mustering for the 40-mans.
Let's see how he likes it. He probably likes furries and 18th century miniatures.
Wait! Is that the source code?!

When the software dev un-lags, assuming the hardware is capable, couldn't they release a firmware patch to correct the injustice?
It reminds me of many MMOGs initial releases:
"You can buy Game-X now!, you just won't be able to login to the server and play for 2-3 weeks. l33t!"

talk about literal translation. It's like trying to joke around with Lt. Commander Data.
