The nice thing about figuring out what takes more energy than it produces, is to look at the market price of the consumed vs. the produced goods.

Sorry, but it's not that simple. In the USA, the corn industry is heavily subsidized by the government.

I don't think you are following. Switching to this technology doesn't remove our dependence on oil. It simply moves the oil usage out of the cars and into the farmland. In fact, if the cycle of generation from oil->corn->ethanol->hydrogen->car is less efficient than oil->car, then this would make us MORE dependent on oil, not less.

  3. Corn ain't free! on Ethanol to Hydrogen Reactor Developed · · Score: 3, Redundant

Unfortunately it still takes fossil fuels to grow corn. I didn't see any mention of this in the article, but it would be insteresting to find out if the total amount of fossil fuels (from things like farm equipment, fertilizers, etc) that goes into growing the corn to create the ethanol to create the hydrogen is the same, lower, or even more than that required to turn fossil fuels into hydrogen directly. If its the same as or higher than the direct route, then this "breakthrough" isn't all that great.

I'm in Vancouver. This morning they interviewed Preston Manning and were extremely polite. Sure they asked him some tough questions, but they didn't "jump all over him" and he had a perfect opportunity to state his opinion without being hounded, and he took advantage of it. That's the way a real talk show should be run and I can't think of the last time I've seen an interview that actually asked difficult questions on Global or CTV.

I disagree. You want blatant bias? Go read or watch anything on CanWest (aka Fox north). Unlike CBC, this (much much larger) corporation controls hundreds of different television stations, radio stations, newspapers, news web sites and media production facilities extensively throughout Canada and the rest of the world. Besides being a far far larger company than the CBC, they also feature a top-down style of dictating political reporting and opinion to their media outlets.

The CBC, on the other hand, is far more balanced between right wing and left wing than you are making them out to be. For example, when the Current interviews someone on the left or the right, they ask hard ball questions, not softball lofters like they do on the National Post. It is for this reason that I myself have gone in the reverse direction from you, I've switched to the CBC to get some actual balance in my news coverage.

Have you not seen Battlestar Galactica? By my criteria Farscape was an OK show that was entertaining but hardly "innovative", as well. Same goes for Star Trek: TNG/whatever and yes, even the slashdot's beloved Firefly.

Again, NOT INNOVATIVE. That kind of thing has been done time and time again. I asked what makes Firefly "innovative". You yourself mentioned examples of where the basic premise behind the show originated. My "troll" still stands, despite the self-defensive insults aimed at me for asking "why". Firefly was capitalizin on the pent up demand for scifi on prime time television, but a western done in space is still a western, no matter how many space ships you put in it. I do agree with you that it deserved a second season though. Far worse derivative shows have run longer.
